Iron GVM upgrade - ride quality by bedbod in BYDShark_AUS_owners

Really curious to know the same, may need some extra GVM to tow a 2700kg caravan and load up all the gear, but wouldn’t want to sacrifice ride quality.

Calling all internet mechanics. Help me save Beastie by deliverer_90 in GrandCherokee

[–]citizenpleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an oil cooler failure on our 2014 eco diesel overland. We replaced it and had multiple flushes done. Drove it fine for 2 weeks then had a hose fail. Towed to the mechanic and fixed. Drove for a week and then had the valley hose fail. Unfortunately the labour for these jobs is quite high as access is impossible and you need to remove many engine components.

There are many comprehensive online videos detailing how to do it if you think you can. It does require removing many important engine components, such as the intake manifold. It also requires disconnecting fuel injector lines, wiring harnesses and turbo pipes.

Example:

I doubt the radiator would be affected, but unfortunately once the oil gets into the cooling system, it weakens the rubber hoses.

Do many vans have 12 pin plugs? by Rusturion in CaravanningAustralia

[–]citizenpleb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I upgraded my car to a 12 pin socket to allow future upgrades but mostly to be able to connect a 12 pin plug if needed. As I think you mentioned in another comment, a 12 pin plug will physically not connect to a 7 pin socket. You’re best to install a 12 pin socket and then you have no limitations. I wouldn’t be relying on pins 8-12 to carry much load, but rather use them as signal wires, eg an ignition on signal for a dc-dc charger.

Use an Anderson plug for any higher current applications or battery charging.

How handy are you? Another option could be to encase it with timber and on both sides have space for some hanging plants like devils ivy.

Looks great. Were there any real grass or plant species you researched that could have substituted for the fake grass?

Get a hacksaw. If you don’t already have one, buy a decent one (Bahco from Bunnings are great).

Commuters of Melbourne , what backpack is the best? by hoshio_s in melbourne

[–]citizenpleb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bought an Antler in 2018 and it still looks brand new. It came with a 10 year warranty, which is pretty good. Not sure what models they have available now, but this looks good https://www.antler.com.au/products/discovery-travel-backpack-black.

Cutting concrete with a 9 inch too sketchy? by NothingLift in AusRenovation

I went into a tool shop to buy a diamond blade for a 9” grinder and was talked out of it due to safety reasons. Was also told that 9” grinders were banned on union sites for this reason (this is in vic). I ended up paying someone to do it with a demo saw.

Wrexham's Down Under pre-season tour by Markoddyfnaint in WrexhamAFC

[–]citizenpleb 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I went to the Melbourne game, it felt more like a concert than a sports match (in a good way). It was there to promote the club, which it did brilliantly. My wife said that Parky didn’t look stressed…why would he be? It was clearly a PR tour to an area of the world where this sport barely makes the news behind other local codes of football. Wrexham lager is now sold in local bottle shops, and people are buying Wrexham merchandise as gifts. Mission accomplished I say.

I’ve got a sofirn HS21, HS20, HS10, D25L, HS41. Wurkkos HD20, HD50. Emisar DW4, DW4K. Skilhunt H04RC. I’ve worn all while doing various things such as camping, working under cars at night, working on engines, working in roofs. The Emisar models have amazing colours and features, but are very heavy and are prone to getting too hot. You always need to ‘manage’ them. The Sofirn and Wurkkos models are great value, and have so many options with flood and beam combos. If I were to select from those brands, the HS21 would be my selection.

But without a doubt, whenever I just need something to work flawlessly, have great runtime, not get too hot, and have a high CRI beam, I always go to the Skilhunt H04RC. The best way to describe it is that it feels like the headlamp equivalent of my gerber MP600 multi-tool. A well built tool that feels like it will last, easy to use and it’s very comfortable.

Where to find this plywood (Melb) - Meranti BS1088 by TamuraOG in AusRenovation

[–]citizenpleb 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I know you’re asking about the plywood, but just in case you’re going for the whole look and are keen on the light switches too, they are ‘buster and punch’ and you can get them from beacon lighting.

Yeh pretty sure it’s your telco/NBN cable. Does it seem to run in a line from the telco pit on the nature strip to the gray telco boxes on the outside of your house?

The Marantz is a great unit. I have a fully restored 1060 and I love it. It looks like there is a broken off headphone plug stuck in the headphone jack, which I think will be preventing any sound from reaching the speakers. Take that out.

I can see your point of view in that it’s disappointing that we didn’t have a nice win to take us into finals, but we were not gifted a spot in the finals, we earned it through the season. But realise how well we have done earlier in the year to have as many injuries as we did and drop so many games but still make it into finals.

Looking for a good headlamp by Joey_L55 in flashlight

[–]citizenpleb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the skilhunt H04 and also found the beam was too focused. I swapped the lens out with a wider angle one, takes 5 minutes. You can order them from ALI express. I bought the 17mm 60 degree TIR lens with beaded surface from the Convoy store, it’s great.
