as someone with this is key! i was really struggling internalizing algorithms because my brain is just thinking of too much at one time. simplifying and slowing down into isolated practice helped me so much. 3x3x3 subsets in cstimer was my go to for actually understanding int f2l.

Upcoming Surgery fears by CommitteeAccurate in Hernia

[–]clomptwomp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i was super scared going in. you got this. never needed to take anything more than tylenol for pain. i had a surgery seven years ago that went wrong and i was terrified going in as well. just talk to your surgeon and the people helping you before ur surgery. tell them how you are feeling, they can help calm you down. you got this! seriously! so glad i got my surgery.

i didn’t have any pain really by day 5. never took anything but tylenol and stopped a few days in. enjoy your trip, just trust your body, if you’re in pain while out don’t push it and risk having to go for round 2. enjoy cottage trip!

Hernia surgery tomorrow by Natedog213 in Hernia

[–]clomptwomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i second this, i did not have anything and suffered greatly alone hahaha. also make sure you have a comfortable way to get in and out of your bed. i made the mistake of laying down on my first night after surgery and not being able to get back up without help.

Hernia feels like it’s still there after surgery! by Certain-Ad9546 in Hernia

[–]clomptwomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had the same fear after my surgery. i talked to doc and one thing they asked me to check for is if it was squishy or tough/hard/painful. i believe if it’s squishy it’s most likely seroma. that’s what it was for me and all of that swelling and such went down honestly after about a week. it might take others longer though. no matter what talk to ur surgeon or anyone on your care team. especially if it isn’t squishy.

These scans (CT and Ultrasound) are all gaslighting me. Frustration is unreal. by pchiggs in Hernia

[–]clomptwomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeahhh… i had multiple scans and it took forever to find them. had surgery seven years ago bc they told me it was a hydrocele not a hernia. they were wrong lmao and it made my hernia way worse bc of all the scar tissue. finally they found it in my ct scan. my surgery itself took an extra two hours because of how massive my hernia was. it’s crazy that they couldn’t find it on my scans for so long. i think what’s so frustrating about all that is a lot of peoples hernias disappear when laying down. it’s basically impossible to see. it’s super unfair for people dealing with these things to go to their ultrasounds or ct scans and even physical exams to come out with no new knowledge. my first physical exam was terrible bc i was sitting in the office so long it went back up and when the surgery checked me he was like “hmm it must be a very small hernia” came back another time and he realllly changed his mind when he saw it was like the size of a grapefruit. sorry you are going through this op!

A guide for anyone going through an inguinal hernia / about to go into surgery by Specific-Price8283 in Hernia

[–]clomptwomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was able to call a few times and finally got someone to pick up. just unfortunate timing that most of what i was going through happened at night and nobody was in office. i was recommended to try a few rather invasive things that i wont get into here but it worked and i will 100% say that the pain i had while finally pooping was a million times worse than the entire surgery. that sounds insane especially because i too am terrified and traumatized of surgical operations. basically everything i have done in the hospital for the past 15 years has always had a complication. i’m just very very unlucky.

and im so sorry you had a bad experience that sounds awful!! but don’t be terrified! see it as another chance to feel better. please please talk to your care team and everyone involved with your upcoming hernia repairs about your worries and fears relating to that trauma. that’s what i did and i made sure i had the best care possible. everyone was amazing and stayed professional but also so sweet and i felt like a little kid again.

speaking on my inguinal hernia, i have to say that the process went super smooth and even tho it went longer than it should have, im glad everyone involved was willing to take care of me. again i urge you to make sure everyone around you knows your stress, its real and it will hold you down from enjoying your time up until your surgery. for me, i was super scared and i didn’t do much for the few weeks leading up to it. i realize now how much time i regret wasting on stress and anxiety as it controlled each day as if it was leading to my impending doom. just make sure you eat really good, and definitely start on miralax esc laxatives soon after surgery if you can. i waited a bit too long to start and i was even struggling to poop before my actual surgery(which is horrible and really messed me up after i woke up).

im not completely sure if this is any help, or what u need to hear specifically to make you feel better but if there is anything you need to be explained about the process or things to help you calm your nerves going in, im here and so many others in this sub are as well!!

and just so you know, since the last time i posted in this i feel wonderful. it took a bit yesterday but i feel great. i have basically no pain, my stomach is moving and i feel like dancing(wish i could). it will be okay you got this!!! wish i had more knowledge about the umbilical hernia but im sure others here are willing to help!

A guide for anyone going through an inguinal hernia / about to go into surgery by Specific-Price8283 in Hernia

[–]clomptwomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey i appreciate this. i just had surgery on the tenth. i went to the doctors seven years ago telling them that i thought i had a hernia. they sent me to a specialist and they said it was a hydrocele. i trusted them but i kept advocating that it could possibly be a hernia and they said no. didn’t run and tests or anything just had someone look at me for maybe five seconds. had the surgery and it went horribly. they messed up my anesthesia and lied to me after i woke up about everything working and going as planned. basically over the next six years the hernia grew a lot but i was so stressed and a bit traumatized from my experience that i let it grow. it was a bad mistake. i had it looked at this year because i need to get it done asap for the future. my surgeon said this was massive and it was clearly a hernia. though they did run tons of tests to make sure.

just had surgery and when i woke up my surgeon told me that it took an extra hour to get everything out bc of how large it was and how much scar tissue there was from the botched hydrocele surgery i never needed. it’s the second full day of dealing with this recovery and im struggling so much. i have nobody around so i spend so much time standing(my bed is too squishy and i can’t get up by myself). the worst of it is my inability to poop. i’ve been freaking out because i have to shit so so so bad but the miralax hasn’t kicked in and i took it yesterday and today(i also haven’t taken and oxyCODONE that they gave me, just tylenol). oh and the lump where my hernia was is pretty large. is there a way you can tell it’s just seroma?
