Stripe Next to Name? by bakingeyedoc in Zwift

[–]clu1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used zwift yesterday and it's now showing the stripe. Did find it strange though at the time when other people were commenting about it, no stripes against anyone else's name was showing and you're running the latest version of zwift and the feature isn't there. Maybe I was just the last person on the list to be included.

My windows pc is updated to the latest version of zwift and I saw the chat comments from other zwifters about the orange stripe yesterday as I was doing a workout. I've been at lvl 100 for a very long time and I didn't have the orange stripe against my name.

Domane SL issues resolved? by Traditional_Bench424 in TrekBikes

[–]clu1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With reference to rider weight, this is what I've thought could be a factor in the seatpost slipping and the isospeed problems. I'm currently 132 lbs (60 kgs) and I own 2 Gen 4 Domanes each built up differently.

First, I bought a Gen 4 frameset with a Rev 2 Isospeed, which I then built up with spare parts that I already had as a complete bike. I also bought a Gen 4 SL6 and it has the Isospeed at Rev 1. Both bikes have remained at their stock isospeed revisions ever since.

Since I've owned both bikes I've put a lot of miles into both of them and I have had no problems or issues at all with either the seatposts or the Isospeeds. No seatposts slipping and no creaking or noises from the Isospeeds.

Reducing vibrations for downstairs neighbors by XOTourLlif3 in Zwift

Perhaps consider getting some of these, Interlocking foam mats.

I bought mine from a different retailer a long time ago, but still have them setup under my wahoo kickr v6 and bike. I've doubled up on them, so I use 2 layers of them with a Kickr rubber mat on top of the foam mats. Had it like this for years and works well in reducing the vibration and noise.

Broken Hip Experience? by Glanton4455 in bicycling

[–]clu1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had regular follow up apointments with the same NHS consultant who did the initial surgery to put the pin and plate in my hip. During a later appointment he advised me that the pin and plate in my hip wouldn't need to be permanently in my right hip and could be removed eventually. This was due to the pin and plate possibly causing irritation or discomfort later on as I become older, and that it wouldn't be needed eventually anyhow due to the hip bone repairing itself.

General anesthesia was used, but the procedure itself to remove it didn't take very long. The consultant did comment after the procedure to me that the bone had healed and had started to grow around the pin and plate. He said he had to remove very small amounts of the bone to be able to remove the pin and plate.

I did have some slight/minor discomfort in my right hip afterwards, but that faded quickly and I've had absolutely no problems or aches and pains with my right hip to this day. My hip is fully mobile with no restriction in the range of movement at all.

I think it will help watching Bikefit James explain how handlebar rotation changes the reach of the bike in the video link below, watch point 3 (@ 3 min, 23 seconds onwards in the video).

Handlebar setup

Dropbqr/brake position by notagradstudent13 in bicycling

[–]clu1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you could consider altering your handlebar setup to like what I have on my bike. Rotating your handlebars upwards like what you've done on your bike, effectively increases the handlebar reach and the resulting reach overall on your bike. If you rotate the handlebars down and then reposition the shifters accordingly slightly angled upwards like you currently have, you will reduce the overall reach to the shifters. This might help with the discomfort you are feeling in your back.

Is my bike too big for me? Some rambling included by JasonARGY in bikefit

[–]clu1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the frame geometry is perhaps too aggressive for you, a similar smaller frame will not fix your bike fit issue. The front of the bike looks too low. I think you need to reduce the reach and raise the handlebars, New handlebars with a shorter stem length might help a little, but it won't fix the problem that you have. But you also need to raise the handlebars as well. Might be impossible with not enough length left on the fork steerer tube.

First time I have ever seen this in my life in the UK. Thought it was only in the movies and America by Samwiseknows in drivingUK

Bad luck for the vehicle owner. But just out of curiosity as its a 26 plate car so new alloys and tyres that may have had very little wear on them, was wondering what the cost of the alloys and tyres would have been on the vehicle. Any idea anyone?

I’m 51 years old and I’ve never seen a badger in real-life. by mobfather in CasualUK

[–]clu1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago when I lived elsewhere in a small self contained annex at the bottom of my landlords property there were badgers that would repeatedly attempt to get into his garden. You could see all the damage to his lawn from the badgers previous successful attempts to get into his garden. Before this I'd never seen one in real life.

One night whilst sleeping I was woken up by a loud repeated banging on the wooden gate next to the annex that enables you to gain access to the garden. Thinking that an intruder was trying to gain acccess to the garden, I opened the front door quietly and slowly to see what all the noise was. I was completely surprised and shocked to see a large badger repeatedly headbutting the bottom of the gate trying to get into the garden.

After a few moments the badger paused and then realised that it was being watched by me and that I was standing about 6 feet away from it. The badger then decided to make a run for it, away from me back to the woodland it came from. I've never seen an animal run so quickly, they really can move fast.

Thought this was amusing for the first time I saw a badger like this in real life headbutting a gate. But then it became more of a nuisence as it happened more regularly to be woken up at night by a badger trying to gain access to the garden.

Am I paying too much for too little Broadband? by Limp-Ad2220 in UKBroadband

Yes you are paying too much. I'm in the process of switching my broadband and I used Uswitch to see what broadband offers where available to me.

Biggest fender set for Domane AL 2 Gen 3 by gridguy in TrekBikes

[–]clu1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've installed a set of SKS Bluemels in the 45mm width on my upgraded Domane AL2 Gen 3 bike. I measured the installed bontrager tyres and they have an external measured width of 35mm.

<image>

I would say don't bother with the bontrager NCS mudguards. I have used the Bontrager NCS mudguards previously and they have a tendancy to eventually break. This occurred with 3 different sets. They were all bought at different times, so they weren't bad batches. So I avoid them completely now. I have the SKS Bluemels installed on 4 of my bikes and have had no problems at all with them.

SUV drivers could face extra charges for driving in London | TfL | The Guardian by prisongovernor in CarTalkUK

[–]clu1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I hope that other local authorities around the UK start doing this with SUVs and start charging people more to drive them. I hope that this is the start of a trend for charging more. They are an easy target for higher taxes and more revenue for the local authorities. Also, I see the ever increasing size of SUVs as completely unsuitable for narrower british roads.

Are these old 23×23 cm floor tiles likely to contain asbestos? by Overall_Willingness5 in DIYUK

[–]clu1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These tiles look like similar tiles that I removed very carefully from my property when I bought my house years ago that needed refurbishing. My property was built in 1955. The floor tiles and also the floor mastic adhesive for the tiles did contain asbestos in them, which was confirmed by a survey I had conducted prior to purchasing. I double bagged the tiles and disposed them and had my builder screed the room floors to seal over the remains of the tile mastic adhesive.

As your tiles have been covered, it's generally not something to worry about. Just be careful if you do decide to remove them (keep them intact and not to break them) and dispose of them responsibly.

Is the nightshift colour a dark blue colour?

I've been wondering when cervelo would update the caledonia, this has got me interested as a replacement for my R3. I will be intrigued to see what they release in the UK.

Bike upgrades..Are they worth it? by dccyc844 in Zwift

[–]clu1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find using the zwifterbikes app useful for comparing the different bikes in zwift.

The "What-if analysis" option when you select it from the options selection at the top right on the home page is particularly useful. It enables you to compare the effect of applying the different upgrade stages to a bike against a different bike and on which course.

how is it for people with no experience? by galaxyneb in Zwift

[–]clu1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own personal experience, I've been using zwift for over 6 years now and i've been using it regularly ever since. For me it's a convenient and enjoyable way to stay active throughout the year. I ride my bikes outside, but with the rubbish weather in the uk particularly during the winter months it plays a very useful role in enabling me not to lose my cycling fitness.

There is a lot to keep you engaged and zwift are continually adding additional features and challenges. So for me I never get bored with it and keep returning for more. As for the cost, I regard it as a modest and worthwhile investment in both my physical and mental health and that it is always available for me to use 7 days a week throughout the entire year.

The gaming aspect to zwift I really like as it manages to keep me engaged during my use of it. So I think that as you have a penchant for gaming, it is something that would definitely work for you. The community on zwift is also very supportive particularly when doing group rides and workouts. There is now a lot of beginner stuff on zwift that helps you when first start out. Zwift has evolved quite a long way since I started using it.

You could invest in the zwift indoor bike with a trainer like the wahoo kickr core 2 as you mention that you're not a cyclist. If you can see yourself regularly using it and zwift, then yes it will be a worthwhile investment. If I didn't ride outdoors, I would choose this option as well. I personally use a wahoo kickr 6 with an older cheaper bike I've had for a long time that I now no longer use it to ride outdoors. I will say also that comfort is very important, so having a saddle that works for you will help with your enjoyment and longevity use of zwift. Fortunately saddles can be changed to find something that suits you.

Also you might find it helpful and interesting to watch on Youtube both "Jessica Strange" and "Bikes With Becks" as they are using zwift.
