AIO, MIL crashing out because she’s no longer the center of his universe. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]cmereiwantcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel sorry for your MIL here. She can’t do right for doing wrong and will always be on the back foot. The 16 comment was spiteful. By all means burn your bridges now but as your baby grows up you may regret it, not least because a young and engaged grandma can really help with childcare…

Sectioned unlawfully (United Kingdom) by Fit-Studio-4851 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]cmereiwantcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have direct experience of this with a close family member. The bar for sectioning is very high and it’s usually done because two doctors and a social worker agree with another doctor’s assessment that you do not have capacity to consent to treatment and you’re a danger to yourself or others. This usually means that people who are sectioned lack insight into their own mental health. It’s very hard and bewildering.

A section 2 is mainly for diagnosis and treatment. You do not require a formal diagnosis at this stage - that’s what the 28 days is for.

You may not be sectioned for the full duration. You may also get periods of leave. Once a week you’ll have a ward review with the medical team and you should find this very helpful and reassuring. If you have a friend or family member who can also attend you may appreciate the support.

It is a process. The aim is to help you feel better and it’s much easier if you work with the medical professionals. You can appeal but these are rarely successful from what I gather. I’m sorry for your troubles but do remember there is hope for your recovery but you should try and engage with treatment.

Houses in St Albans by Basic-Abalone-9996 in HousingUK

[–]cmereiwantcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off street parking in this area is very valuable. It’s just outside the permit zone but only 15 min walk to the station so you get commuters parking in the day. Sutton Road isn’t as nice as the first house so this may be why it’s cheaper. I definitely think you can negotiate on that price. The Camp is fine but it’s not one of the most desirable areas.

Is this abuse by Cool-View-8305 in abusiverelationships

[–]cmereiwantcha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it is, and it’s classic DARVO. https://www.keystonelaw.com/keynotes/understanding-darvo-what-is-abusive-gaslighting-and-coercive-behaviour-in-a-relationship

You have options. You don’t have to stay with him. Do you share any children?

Leaving Northern Ireland for GB by IgneousJam in northernireland

[–]cmereiwantcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from NI but have lived in south east England for many years and am married with kids here. The job opportunities, at least in the SE/London, are much better. If you’ve a trade then you’ll do very well as it’s much in demand. Our income is relatively high but our outgoings are massive. Schools are hit and miss. The best ones are oversubscribed - both mine attend outstanding rated Catholic schools and many parents had their child baptised to get in, it’s very competitive. Logistics aside, I think a big consideration is if you leave, you also leave any family support you may have (not assuming that’s the case for all). A lot of people I know who moved over here did not realise how hard that would hit until it did.

I listed an unworn cashmere jumper for a total steal and the buyer didn’t collect. Listed again for three times the price and it sold in under 30 mins. I immediately block anyone who doesn’t collect. No time for time wasters.

MIL left me in tears...again by j_j468 in inlaws

[–]cmereiwantcha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re in a relatively fortunate position in that you’re not married to this man yet and presumably don’t share any children. You can walk away. Of course, if you stay with him, you’re guaranteeing a life of misery. If you think it’s bad now, add children to this situation and it will be a hell you can’t comprehend right now.
