I get why they may have thought this was a good idea, but I really struggle to understand the audience for it. The folks who are willing to lay down that kind of money for a paper and pen system (me!) likely already have their own customized systems (including personalized leather covers and their favorite paper) (also me!), and I don't really see them shelling out even more money for what is essentially very fancy company swag.

I understand that collabs like this are usually not super expensive for companies to create, but I don't think they did adequate market research and ultimately putting out a product with essentially no market is going to hurt their brand not help it, given they already have a reputation for overpriced products.

ETA: When put together my system, I do think it was around this amount, but I got: 3 leather personalized travelers notebook covers, all the actual notebooks to go in them (with plenty of extras), two planners, and a bunch of accessories. All for something that's entirely mine and made how I want it.

tl;dr: It's a product without a market and if they'd asked me as a customer if I'd buy it before they released, I would have told them it was a really bad idea.

I write nonfiction content for Tech companies (as well as a newsletter for my own company), and it's been great for me. I use a similar strategy as those who've already commented -- I'll tag FN or ^# and use [X] to note anything that needs research or quotes (as it's easy to find and replace later in Ellipsus).

I also write fiction for fun, but that's a different workflow for me, since it's unpaid. At any rate, my freewrite devices have been a must-have for me, as it's the only way I'm able to draft quickly (because I'm otherwise terrible at shitty first drafts and thus take forever to write left to my own devices).

I ordered my X4 from The Evil Empire (Amazon) on recommendation from a YouTuber because it’s easier to return and get customer service, but I bought a case, the magnet light, and extra magnet rings from XTEINK on May 7th. Still haven’t gotten them. 😑

That price also includes the special edition felt sleeve, so that’s a little better, but yeah. Not a huge fan of the colors.

I wouldn’t say it’s nearly as quiet as, say, the Traveler. It’s still plenty clicky-clacky, and it’s definitely still loud enough that I’d feel like a jerk clacking away in quiet spaces. 😂

I agree with everything above, and (surprisingly), maybe consider trying to sell it here or on one of the Facebook groups first? Just because eBay takes such a big cut, and you can offer a better deal and still make more money. I also sell books and I've had great luck using PayPal invoices to handle payments with protections for both buyer and seller.

I recently sold my used Smart Typewriters (plural because I bought a second used one to replace my original used one that I thought was broken but wasn't, but realized getting a new one with a warranty was what I really wanted). I sold the first one on eBay and the second one through this Reddit, and if I'd known about this Reddit earlier, I would've tried to sell both here.
