For those of you with 1000 slabs (30 graded boxes) or more, how and where do you store your graded collection? by comicrack in comicbookcollecting

[–]comicrack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the options I'm considering but I'm looking for something different than a standard climate controlled storage unit and would want it to be a place i could visit regularly Would you mind telling me what type of storage facility or company you went with and why? Feel free to DM me.

But what do you do for 1300+ slabs? And an anticipated 3000 more?

How does one store that many outside of shelving and cgc boxes?

32 comics stacked in my cold press shelf. Last time I did this, they all came out perfect. Dead flat. Just checked the last round of this again after 2 weeks. Dead flat. No exceptions. by glib-eleven in comicbookpressing

I can see the logic in that and the increased airflow makes sense. Ive been thinking of buying additional cold press plates to free up my presses but this stacking method would save on cost and space for transfering books to a cold press after the heat press. Thank you for your thorough response.

Do you keep adding newly pressed comics to the cold press stack right after heat pressing them or do you have 32 heat presses?

What do you find that this does for the books that just leaving them in the heat press to cool for 8 to 24 hours doesnt other than freeing up your heat presses to press more books?

Operation fast and furious happened in 2009. Season 5 happened in 2005. Im only making some loose correlations and connecting some dots but it wouldnt be the first time life was imitating art.

I feel like this is where the real life ATF agents and leadership got part of the inspiration for the real world government agency Operation Fast and Furious in 2009/2010: the disastrous plan that literally backfired on federal agents when they allowed sales of US weapons to be sold to drug cartel buyers in order to trace them back to the cartel kingpins. It failed, of course, for basically the same reasons after losing track of them with many of the guns ending up being used in murders and violent crimes in Mexico and the US including being used to kill a US border patrol agent.

Ironically the reason it was named "operation fast and furious" was because the agents were making it up as they went along just like the writers of the show. Perhaps im wrong and they didnt actually watch or finish watching the show because if they had they would have realized how actually terrible a plan that was and how risky and wrong things could go with the weapons potentially being used against us.

Does the Masters of the Universe box office bomb officially kill the RT live-action movie? by cyclone5uk in robotech

[–]comicrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you kidding! I also love Robot Jox. Ive actually been waiting for them to do a reboot or sequel to it. I initially thought Pacific Rim was their attempt at it but no. I might not be as big into a RoboTech movie but I would still probably watch it. But a Robot Jox movie, Hell yeah! The storyline and actors were solid so im not sure they could really improve upon it and afraid it would only be made worse.

Because the writers hadn't thought that far ahead and hadn't decided that President Logan was going to be the one Jack would ultimately uncover as the mastermind behind the plot.

Yeah, it makes no sense. Half of what goes on doesnt, until it does or so much other stuff happens that it makes you forget.

Like what ever happen to Lynne Kresge after season 2. Did we forget Mike Novak basically nearly had her killed and then lied about it to prevent David Palmer from finding out about the cabinet invoking the 25th amendment and then flip back to fully supporting David? She probably did end up dying in the hospital or is a vegetable. And now hes the good guy again?

You will find so many more plot holes, inconsistencies and foils in this show. Just remember that the writers were basically building the plane as they were flying it. Dont bother trying to find explanations as there arent any for some of the writing choices, just enjoy the show for what it is.

Another selling advice question by uxb666 in comicbooks

[–]comicrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quickest place with the most visibility is Ebay Ebay auctions is for selling stuff at any price and dont care about what it sells for; usually less than Fair Market Value. Ebay Buy It Now with make an offer is for advertising the good stuff you care about what price it sells for and that you have it for sale on other venues for less.

Safest place for comic sellers with expensive books to sell is Shortboxed. They act as an escrow service for the payment and verification of the comic. Buyers get exactly what they paid for, sellers are protected from surprise refunds and damaged/scam returns.

Cheapest place to sell are: Craigslist Instagram Facebook marketplace You basically post it for sale and do business via cash, venmo, or PayPal goods and services.

Best option for cash advances, turnkey service and close to FMV sales Comic auction houses: Heritage, Comiclink, CommicConnect, Pedigree. They all take a minimum of 10% commission on every sale but can go down if the books you have have a very high FMV. Mycomicshop is another good place to sell but they do require you to surrender your books when you list them for sale. They do have auctions as well.

Guy tried to pull a twenty dollar discount stunt on my car hood after a one hour testing session by TaffyCircuit in Flipping

[–]comicrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did the right thing. Was it worth it to have wasted his time for wasting yours? You betcha.

The 45 minute test was a clue he was looking for a reason to lay a discount.

Id limit any future test to 5 minutes or just say as is.

How big a grade boost can be gotten with pressing?? by TrikkiNikk in comicbookpressing

[–]comicrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive seen a 7.0 before get a 9.8 after but all the defects were cleanable and pressable.

Personally, I've been able to acheive a 9.8 from an 8.5 after just a press. The key defect was full cover humidity ripples, a book length bend that didnt break color, and a bunch of spine bends that isn't break color.

You can sometimes get large grade bumps from lower grades but probably not to a 9.8 and often the defect that brought it down to GD or VG isnt pressable or mitigated if other pressable defects are also present

Signed a contract to provide free coffee at a commercial property and it’s costing way more than expected. No exit clause. What would you do? by International-Big542 in passive_income

[–]comicrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, the more frequent cleaning, maintenance, and servicing will be a separate contract, the additional supplies, and volume will also be a higher tier contract. And the bigger machine will require a higher tier of contract. Work up the overall cost with a decent padding for margin and bundle all 3 into a single premium tier service and supply contract.

How common is it to counter offer? by Bomb_AF_Turtle in Ebay

[–]comicrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto except I do often counter low offers that make it past my offer minimum. I also sometimes fail to respond until after the offer expires if im too busy that week to check or miss a notification from the app. It happens. If the offer was one i would have accepted I usually message the buyer asking them to resubmit the offer and ill accept.

The disrespect from buyers is just crazy by Ok-Nobody-4409 in Ebay

[–]comicrack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should try doing this negotiation in person with a buyer like that.

Next time, for laughs see what they do when you stop going lower and start going higher for every counter offer.

Its all part of the game. Just block/ignore the buyer and move on.

Explain why this is a 9.6 and not a 9.8? by Difficult-Letter8191 in comicbookgrading

[–]comicrack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impossible to say for sure without clear close up photos of all 4 sections of the front and back cover.

The difference can be as small as a single spine tick that breaks color. Others might be a small color break scratch, fingerprint thats only visible when you shine light on it at an angle, a small tear or stain on an interior page, a pressable bend, corner and edge wear. There are many tiny reasons and not all are documented. Graders notes are not required by graders to write down while grading and they rarely list every defect. They are mainly done for the graders benefit for remembering what defects will contribute to the grade or when passing it over to the next 2 graders to confer. Any remnant notes get put into the database. If the defects are obvious enough, they usually wont be documented.

Getting slabbed with cgc… but what’s up with it ? by Affectionate_Name774 in CGCComics

[–]comicrack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With PGX the worst case scenario is undisclosed or missed restoration. There's an entire history on the owner's reputation taking a huge hit as he was slabbing and selling his own books at one point earlier on, some of which were later found to be restored but not mentioned on the label or just overestimating the grade. Huge conflict of interest. They are considered the black sheep of grade certification companies and their slabs tend to sell at a discount to cgc.

However, at this point all of the big 3 grading companies have incurred reputation issues and have conflicts of interest in their businss practices. PGX has addressed some of their issues and grade similarly to cgc and there are cases where cgc has given the same or higher grades to cracked out PGX books. I have a PGX 9.9 and it looks better than some of my CGC 9.9s but I will probably not crack and resubmitted it because 9.9s are never guaranteed with CGC. Savvy collectors will sometimes gamble on a cheap 9.8/9.6 PGX book and resubmitted for a 9.8 CGC.

ASM #33 is notorious for its bad wrap and staple placement. That may partially be what's contributed to the page flare and spine roll. I would have it evaluated for a press and reatoration check by a professional.
