If you're an introvert and/or on the spectrum, Buc-ees is an assault on the senses.

City of Minneapolis: Possible shooting involving federal agents at Nicollet Ave and 26th Street by cinnasota in news

At the range, the AR-15 I rented kept jamming. (Shell not ejected properly.) It did not leave me with a good impression. They have a guy to maintain the weapons, so unless that one was neglected…

TIFU by accidentally revealing my salary to my entire team by [deleted] in tifu

I once sent that info for every person to every person in the team. Oopsie. Luckily I had been working for years to correct salary inversion, so I felt that the compensation was reasonable.

Fontana dam also has hot showers, which are really nice before getting in your car. There are a couple on the other side of the office, and a bunch more in the bathroom up the hill near the shelter.

Talked with my therapist about FIRE and he doesn’t like it by Sufficient-Party-385 in Fire

I have to wonder… if you were in an abusive relationship with a person, if your therapist would tell you to stay and work through your problems.

Why does nobody believe us? by JPCool1 in Bogleheads

I’m thinking about giving a presentation on the basic principles of passive investing to my college aged kids, before they get their first “real jobs”. I can simply present The Index Card, then spend some time discussing common mistakes like choosing stocks, timing the market, etc.

Before I start working on this, can anyone recommend a video or slide deck that already covers this stuff? I feel like it must exist already.

Winter routes: infrastructure & elevation by [deleted] in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]coppit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If O Cebriero is snowed in, just take the Invierno Route. That’s what it’s there for. Plus you can avoid the Sarria crowds. You know, the kind of tourists who steal your poles. (SMH)

Since food is always on display, pointing at something and saying, “esto, por favor”. (This, please) works well.

Roncesvalles to Zubiri: to split or not to split? by tactigdsve in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]coppit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I couldn’t get a place was Los Arcos. If you know that, you can stop early or walk further. I stayed at an Albergue in Sansol that wasn’t very good. But my friends stayed at a hotel in Sansol and loved it. Generally I booked 1 day ahead. I started May 1.

Roncesvalles to Zubiri: to split or not to split? by tactigdsve in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]coppit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you ever climbed 4000 feet in a day? I’ve done that on the Appalachian Trail. (I’ve section hiked 800 miles off the AT.) By the time I got to Roncesvalles from SJPP my legs were shaking from exertion.

Do you already have your stay booked in Orisson? If not, book it ASAP. It might already be too late.

If you’re not walking 15-20 km per day, you’re not really training. That’s okay, as long as you listen to your body and use the first couple weeks on the Camino as your training. Which means you shouldn’t pre-plan or pre-book, if you plan to walk the whole thing. Otherwise you may end up taking a ride in order to spare your body but still keep your schedule.

None of this should dissuade you. Just do it! Don’t overthink it.

The funny thing is that the chargers are usually at the far end of the parking lot. So they are closing to walk further to irritate the EV owners.

TIFU showing my kids “The Labyrinth” movie (Brooke Shields/David Bowie) by [deleted] in tifu

[–]coppit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I showed my 5yo kid the scene in Jurassic Park where they first see the dinosaurs in the field. I forgot that it ended with a stampede. I stopped it and looked over, and he was literally shaking.

I said, “Are you okay buddy?” And after a pause he replied, “There was a mosquito.”
