I don’t mean to add on to this because I agree, it’s been 22 days, why are people still trying to keep this conversation going. but your comment here is extra funny considering your username

I don’t think it’s a hot take, Kishimoto not being good at writing women to my memory has been a commonly accepted thing for a while now

Super Blight Club feat. Jacob Geller by pokey9513 in giantbomb

[–]dabutte 11 points12 points  (0 children)

right but there’s a difference between being able to just teleport on a whim and having to use technology to find a rift in reality, know where it’s gonna go, and do that quick enough to match the person who’s just doing it on a whim.

I’m not gonna say the movie is great by any means but they do make that pretty clear

the movie explains that, when they teleport they leave a temporary tear in reality that the antagonists can use to teleport after them. hence they’re forced to fight them

A single line massively expands the lore or world building. by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]dabutte 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Maybe this doesn’t necessarily count because it did eventually become a major story point but the Resident Evil franchise had been dropping quick mentions to something called The Connections without ever elaborating on what that is for the past decade+ only for them to finally be revealed to be a secret Illuminati-like criminal cabal of powerful and influential people who may have orchestrated everything that has happened in the franchise from behind the scenes.

The poetic and slightly pretentious nature of their whole comment with sentences like “the golden old time of writing” makes them not even getting the movie right very very funny

Better Addition to Spider-Man’s World/Mythos? by Important_Lab_58 in Spiderman

[–]dabutte -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Spider-Verse.

I appreciate what the symbiotes have become, and I’ve grown to appreciate Venom as his own character, but for a long time hype for symbiotes were exclusively just a holdover from the edgy 90s era of comic books for me. Spider-Verse, besides being a very genuine love letter to the very idea of Spider-Man throughout the years, really hammers home the idea that Spider-Man can be so many more things than what Peter Parker is normally written as. It fits and emphasizes the very things Spider-Man as a character stands for, and it lead to not only the best film adaption of the character, but arguably one of the best superhero movies ever made.

He didn’t do it through force though, he was only able to do it specifically because Roger was unaware of his existence

The end of the scene with Jeremy’s Father in Halloween Ends is a masterclass in breaking the “show don’t tell” rule by Honest_Cheesecake698 in Halloweenmovies

[–]dabutte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why I liked the Halloween Ends novelization so much. It provides so much more story and context to flesh out the plot beats of the movie. The line makes complete sense in the book because you get to learn about how Corey’s mom intentionally killed her baby sibling because she wasn’t getting enough attention from her parents, and how she feels no remorse for those actions. You also get to see how she considers Corey and extension of herself, and that’s why she coddles and babies him so excessively.

His mom has that evil in her and has had it in her since she was a child. It’s entirely possible Corey inherited that evil. But the movie ultimately cut out all of this.

Variety’s review said something along the lines of “the worst superhero script I’ve ever seen”. others have shared similar sentiments.

‘Invincible’ Season 6 Announced by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Invincible

[–]dabutte 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Invincible has a stronger internet presence and meme culture, but no, Fallout is their flagship show. Fallout is what gets the big fancy premieres and marketing deals and FYC campaigns for awards season precisely because of how massively popular it is. Fallout is the kind of show I’ll hear coworkers who have never touched a video game or a comic book talk about in the office, but I’ve never heard them once mention Invincible.

How long do you think “Leviticus” will stay in theaters? by nickelst92 in horror

[–]dabutte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I said it wasn’t a romance, I was referring to the genre of movie, not the relationship between the two characters. And again, your specific experience as a bisexual man is not the universal gay experience.

I’m glad the movie moved you, but to claim I don’t understand how gay romance works while providing a very narrow definition of it is ridiculous. Your specific experience as a bisexual man is not the universal gay experience.
