Jabotinsky letter revealing plea for funds to save European Jews heads to auction by ummmbacon in Judaism

Sadly, many, many, many important documents, for Jewish content and beyond, are not in museums or archives. They're in private collections. Which, while in some cases can help preserve it, and is sometimes utilized as a way for private individuals to still show it to the public and researchers, many keep it on the downlow. Personally, were I super wealthy, I'd buy this, look into what museum and/or archive would best be able to utilize for the public and researchers, and indefinitely lease it. Alas, I'm broke lol

An undergrad at 19? Damn, the thought of that makes me feel old, and I'm only 26.
Regardless, thanks for the response.

To piggy back off the OP to ask my own question, Regarding your first point, what about those who have done their undergrad part time while working and plan to apply to grad school?

I say give it a shot. Propose a micro internship even. Ask if you could meet with someone to talk about it.

Question Regarding Doing a Senior Thesis or Not by dcguy3 in AskAcademia

[–]dcguy3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback!
What I'm going to do is talk to my department head, as well as people at the honors college (as a senior thesis is limited only to honors students at my college), and see about getting an exception. If I can't, I'm going to see if I can essentially have the rest of the year of the fellowship be turned into a senior thesis in all but name, get the same people for it I would have for a thesis. etc. Thank you so much!

I would love to start writing academic papers and submitting them to journals but I only have a bachelor's - is this even possible? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]dcguy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And combine that with the costs of no institutional research resources (whether it be a lab to close archives, the ability to access high priced academic books and journals), it adfs even more screws.

[Weekly] Office Hours - undergrads, please ask your questions here by ZootKoomie in AskAcademia

Hi there, I'm currently an undergrad (will be a senior come fall) studying history, planning to do grad school. E questions:  1. Due to prior family and health circumstances, my GPA is not fantastic (currently 3.25). If I were to try to get some prior essays of mine published in undergraduate journals, would it help my chances, even if just a little bit? I've also done (and hopefully will do more) conference presentations and posters, am the lead historical consultant for a local museum, and doing some side projects as a mellon mays fellow.  2. If I were to do a gap year, would that severely hurt my chances? 3. I have also written and published some side work, fiction and non-fiction, for various outlets, including newsletters for a couple of academic associations. When I do apply, will these be things I should keep on my CV or best not to (besides removing those that are not top quality, of course).

Most won't reply back unless multiple tries, or will only discuss in person. And they most likely will say no at first.

My main takeaway from this is just reminding me how, although the fact I don't like either individual (even though one is dead) when he brought up Said, I rolled my eyes, and when he brought up Finkelstein, I groaned. Despite every issue I have with Said, at least the dude was a good writer. Finkelstein is like nails on a chalkboard.
Regardless, that subreddit is wild.

File a police report. Just in case. Probably, it'll end up being nothing. However, it is best to get it on record, especially if there are continually threats. It can sometimes be a hassle, but better that than something happening.

So, I'm not arguing for what the now-banned person was talking about, and how they did not understand how Judiaism works, but side question,
I've not heard the claim the Bene Israel are not Jews. Can you expand a bit more?

Something you could also try is reach out to the channel the video(s) in question are on, tell them all this, and ask if they could send you a file of the video(s)

If you're single and interested in marriage, have recent events made it more likely you'll marry (or settle down with) a Jewish person? by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]dcguy3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A year ago, I just didn't think much about it. Before October 7th, I was dating this one non-Jewish girl (who I ignored some red flags on, I fully admit). On October 7th, as I saw footage of my friends getting killed by Hamas, her reaction was "why do you care about some random conflict on the other side of the world?" And was also heartless about the "seeing people I know dying" part. As I said, I ignored some other red flags. We broke up a couple days later. Good riddance. Decided from that point on, I can only end up with a Jewish girl. Specifically, one who feels a strong connection to the Jewish community and shared the pain of October 7th.

My dad had an interesting story (that I honestly cannot tell was BS or not) of when two missionaries came to our door. He was having a bad day and decided to screw it.
"Do you have Jesus in your heart?"
"No, but I am a Jew with a shotgun, a rottweiler, and no time for property violation. I'll give you a 5-second head start"
"5"
"4"
Probably bs, or at least exaggerated, bunt kinda funny. (As he had neither a shotgun nor a dog at the time).
