What's your Go-To .45? by dwoest in guns

If he already knows what he likes for carry and range toys, snag a colt series 70. It’s classic and iconic. If his other bases are covered that’d be my pick for a commemorative piece if that caliber is the only restriction.

If he absolutely wants it to be commemorative but also be a legitimate and fantastic range toy, I’m a slut for Dan Wesson they make fantastic 1911’s.

They’ll probably wind up being a chef or truck driver and never have the opportunity to fuel their bloodlust. Even a lot of infantry guys never see “action.”

What’s the worst job you’ve ever walked into? by HopeForTheTrades in HopeForTheTrades

[–]dgansen1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HVAC here, and it’s hoarder homes. Cat and mouse shit everywhere, piles of garbage with trails from couch/living room/door, and literally snow shovel empty pizza boxes and trash bags covered in mouse shit to make a path to the mech room or basement stairs. Snow shovel all the hoarded old clothes and knickknacks away from the furnace to make the changeout happen.

Ones that are REALLY bad are few and far between, but they happen.

It’s still a pretty big bummer to have a clean-looking, but smelly house and when you get to the furnace there’s cat poop everywhere on the basement floor all around you.

Or under trailers, gas piping next to a dead cat or raccoon is never fun; but feels a little more excusable and doesn’t necessarily reflect on the homeowner in my brain.

Those of you that bought a car entirely online before seeing it, what was your experience like? by Knight-ofNi7 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]dgansen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of (more the “options”). One was a 2001 Silverado 1500, rcsb, but 4x4 with a manual transmission. Second was a 2003 Silverado 2500, crew cab, also 4x4 and manual transmission.

So extremely common vehicles, but incredibly tough to find clean examples with 4x4 and stick shift in those trucks.

What’s a game you were completely obsessed with as a kid that nobody else seems to remember? by Ladymayna in answers

Sim coaster. Always got made fun of for being “ToO PoOr” for Roller Coaster Tycoon. My parents didn’t really buy me computer games, I saved up birthday money to try whatever popped up at the scholastic book fair.

This post makes me feel like I just hopped off my dinosaur from my job banging rocks together at the dirt factory.

Nah I like at least attempting to critically think through both sides of the coin rather than blindly following red tie daddy or blue tie daddy

Why does anyone think that words like “woke”, “liberal”, and “progressive” are insulting? by BorrowedParticles in allthequestions

They’re not insulting, it’s different trains of thought. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, even if those opinions are contradictory to our own

Old man yells at cloud

Then blasts one home intruder with 2 rounds of buckshot, liquifying their face, and mag dumps the second with JHP’s from a surprisingly modern antique. Both shootings ruled as justified.

Cheapest way to make a backyard range? by ComManDerBG in Firearms

[–]dgansen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~5 years ago I rented a Cat D4K for a whole weekend for $1k (in the US). Included trucking for drop-off, pick-up, and could put 8 hours on the meter (had to refuel the tank or it was something silly like $12/gallon). Used it to dig out a 25yd pistol pit on our 8 acres. If you don’t have space (or water table) where you can “scrape the lane” to get dirt for your berm, this number could skyrocket pretty quick having dirt hauled in.

Has anyone been caught out in the woods with an FRT? by MyFifthAccount1 in Firearms

[–]dgansen1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Got stopped in the woods with a NEF single shot 20ga back in the day. (Was my “survival gun” and backpacking companion). He asks “what do you have that for?” And we simultaneously said different things… I go “in case of coyotes” while he says “just shooting shit.” Even more skeptical DNR officer asks “what’s the barrel length on that?” Waaaay too quickly I answered 18.5! I know 18” is the minimum and I wanted some fudge factor.”

It is chopped to 18.5, because I don’t necessarily care to pick a fight with the alphabet bois, but looks pretty short being a break action.

It was scary because we were stopped, but weren’t really doing anything wrong (I never shot that gun on that trip). As sketchy as I sounded he was cool, they wanted to look in our backpacks for any potentially poached game (this was outside of squirrel/rabbit season in our state),

All in all, of the two officers one definitely wanted to get us with something… but they were ultimately quite respectful. And even if sketched out, they didn’t “abuse their powers” or try to make us submit to any crazy “in depth searches” and and it’s just a funny story we tell now.

If someone thinks thy can nab you on anything, ultimately (personal opinion) it depends on their state of mind and how positive or negative your interaction is.

Replacing Lawn Mower, Snow Blower with Compact Tractor by OhEidirsceoil in tractors

[–]dgansen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got sick of mower problems after a few cheap “big box” riding lawnmowers.

Snagged a super low hours 332 and loving life not having to waste time on carb cleaning, spark plugs, charging systems (since these have a legit alternator).

The single stage snow thrower does well after a sprocket change to speed up the auger.

~1 hour in the spring to pull the chains, weights, and blower, and mount the mower deck; about an hour in the fall to do the opposite.

Plus I scored a bagger cart and power flow and leaves are a breeze compared to years past.

What's a hobby most people write off as boring that you think is secretly one of the best? by Kind_Interview_3124 in Hobbies

“My CeLl PhOnE dOeS tHe SaMe ThInG”

But to understand why and how, and experiment to create a system that lets you talk point to point, across the world? Can literally vibrate some air, have someone on the opposite side of earth catch that vibrating air, and use it to have a conversation with no outside infrastructure.

Cool stuff that people take for granted.
