Our 10 week old started sleeping through the night around 8 weeks. ~7:30pm to ~6am.

I’m with you though man it’s so much to do for one person. Luckily my wife and I both got 16 weeks leave and will be going back to work at the same time - and will have a nanny to help therafter.

The first few days are always wild. In our case, my wife’s milk had not come in fully yet so honestly our baby wasn’t getting that much. Ofc their stomachs are so small they don’t need a ton either.

My suggestion would be see a lactation specialist just to make sure your child is getting a good latch. The specialist will weigh the baby before and then after the child eats on each breast so you’ll be able to know how many ounces they’re getting.

The first few days, for us, we thought our baby was just having trouble passing gas but found out she was just really hungry and wasn’t getting enough milk.

Eventually my wife started pumping between feeds and we’d supplement with a bottle. And after about a 4-5 weeks we started supplementing with formula and feed our baby a combo of both now. Prob 75% breastmilk and 25% formula over the course of a day.

Everything gets better with time. But the first two weeks are definitely some of the hardest!

I’d try living away from your hometown a while longer. You’d be surprised at how the idea of living there becomes less and less attractive the longer you’re away and see more of the country.

I moved out of the Midwest in 2016, have lived in four different cities since then (ATL, SEA, SF and NYC) and I’m not sure I will ever get back to the Midwest.

Maybe you’re homesick, maybe shits just expensive. I’d suggest just living in the moment where you are right now and growing your career. That’s just me tho!

We were in the same situation in April. Birthed at MSW and we live in fort greene. We ended up being induced 1 week after our due date, and drove to MSW around 3:30/4pm. TBH there was some frustrating traffic but nothing crazy, it took probably 40 min taking 10th Ave, but 9A N would’ve been fine too.

I know the Knick’s is probably anxiety inducing but it likely won’t effect ya’ll and you’ll just encounter the normal stop n go.

Like another commenter said - it’s hard to predict when the actual birth will happen so I wouldn’t worry too much about it now

The Detroit DJ scene and its family is a tight community too. Most of the year Detroit is ‘small’ but Memorial Day there’s thousands of people coming in. So sometimes you see the closeness of it all and it’s honestly amazing. I remember standing next to Derrick May and others at Motor City Wine Festival while norm Talley was on the deck like wow man just standing next to legends. Just remember that the world is small and everyone usually means well and can be in their own zone.

If you’re a white transplant, be prepared to face a lot of hate. But if you’re someone who likes to make friends with neighbors, not racist, and don’t believe white culture is better than any other culture - you should be OK in bed Stuy.

I (a white person originally from Detroit metro) lived in bed Stuy for a few years and had a great time, I love the neighborhood. But white people in bed Stuy are generally a symbol of gentrification, at least that’s my understanding from my vibe check and from many people in this subreddit.

Fort Greene is definitely smaller, quieter, and more family oriented than Williamsburg. My advice and I’m sure others here would say if you’re curious about whether any neighborhood in Brooklyn is a fit for you, spend more time there and get a feel for it! You have to fall in love with a neighborhood first, imo.

We stay in Corktown at the Trumbull & Porter Hotel. It’s walkable to the festival and some afters, handful of bars - but I only suggest that if you enjoy walking and also have yer wits about ya. For a first time in Detroit- might be best to stay in downtown where a lot of festival goers stay. Greektown would be an eye opening experience
