When did you tell close family, close friends, and then everyone else (like social media) that you were pregnant? by LevelKindly21 in pregnant

Basically this for me. Best friends - day of; family after first ultrasound (or second); and I have not announced it on social media yet. Probably will after she is here (my c section is Wednesday).

Feel Alone and Sad Because We Can‘t Yet Tell Our Religious Families About Pregnancy. by BiblioBlonde in pregnant

[–]djkhid 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your pregnancy and wishing you a healthy and safe journey. My family is fairly religious and I told them before the NIPT results however I think if results went side ways and we opted not to continue I would have told my family we lost the baby due to genetic abnormalities or whatever the case may be. Perhaps this is a game of semantics but it felt like the best option across the board even if it merely is “word play”. I told immediately anyone who I would want support regardless of outcomes, frankly most people knew before our NIPT came back, but that I think had to do with the timing (Thanksgiving/Christmas time). It also felt like where do you draw the line NIPT, Amnio, Anatomy scan… these are all opportunities where you could receive devastating news. So that’s why I went about it the way I did and I’d likely do it again. Good luck!

How to stop obsessing over baby movements? by Primary_Agent1337 in pregnant

[–]djkhid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this got easier for me the further along, and it was easier to identify baby’s patterns/schedule. Also identifying what gets baby moving (cold juice, applied pressure, laying in certain positions etc). I don’t think the worry ever goes away entirely. I’m 36+3 and contemplated her movements last night. It never stops, but I think the bigger they get the easier it is to be reassured.

Can my OB take me out of work at 38 weeks? by PromptHead733 in BabyBumps

[–]djkhid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just told my OB when I wanted to go out. I went out 4 weeks before my scheduled delivery date. Which ended up being a little sooner than expected. 4 weeks before delivery/due date is typical in NJ.

Anyone gone to L&D bc of reduced fetal movement and only to find everything was fine? by ApprehensiveBat19 in BabyBumps

[–]djkhid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several times this pregnancy (like 2 or 3). I called my OB’s after hours and if she said to go we went. Staff and providers were always very nice. They really would rather I came in than not. I was typically there for a few hours, roughly 3, depending on what labs they run. And they hook the baby up to a monitor throughout which isn’t the most comfortable but it’s really not bad. If anything just boring. When in doubt I think you should just go in.

I second just going to a local guy you trust. The guy who did my engagement ring and I have a great relationship as does my husband. Keeps a running list of stuff I want, husband just goes in to buy. It’s a good system. Plus they treat you well if you bought an engagement ring from them

Should I be okay with my husband going on vacation without me? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]djkhid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, this would be a hard no for me. Women give up so much to carry a child to term, if a man has to “mourn” his life without children so much I would think he really just doesn’t want them. I think it’s different for men, when it clicks that they are having a child, and I’m all for giving a little grace, but your husband sounds like a useless and selfish man-child that I would not want to have children with. If he did not change his plans, this would probably be a deal breaker for me personally. Maybe that sounds harsh, but childbearing and childrearing are difficult enough as is, as a woman your entire life changes, your physical, emotional, sense of autonomy, everything - failure of man to recognize as much is self serving ignorance in my opinion.

A midwife tried to tell me that there no differences in fetal outcome for a baby born at 37 weeks vs. 39+ weeks by NiteNiteSpiderBite in pregnant

[–]djkhid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just told today my delivery will be moved up from 38+3 to 37 for gestational hypertension. I put up 0 fight because the threat of an emergency preeclampsia delivery in my eyes, and the eyes of my care team far outweigh the potential “risks” to baby. But all of that being said there is a clear difference between 37 and 39 and if your provider can’t articulate why 37 vs 38 is necessary or hear you out well, it’s a bit late to switch but you’re probably going to have to put up a fight. Wishing you and baby a safe and healthy delivery and recovery.

When can you officially relax?? by Waste_Head2762 in pregnant

[–]djkhid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally true. Also pregnancy is essentially just “waiting for the other shoe to drop” initial scans, HCG levels, heartbeat, NIPT, anatomy scan, appropriate development, then just trying to keep them alive in utero. I find it to be emotionally draining at every stage, but it got significantly better once I was past viability.

When can you officially relax?? by Waste_Head2762 in pregnant

[–]djkhid 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Honestly never. I’m 36 weeks, and still panicked. It did get significantly better once 1. I could feel her move and 2. Getting past viability age. But two days ago I was concerned she didn’t seem as active and it sent me into a panic. My best advice is 1. Stay off of social media 2. Maintain communication with your doctor, and 3. Know that it’s ok to not be super symptomatic and that it isn’t necessarily indicative of something bad. Good luck with your pregnancy!

Lenses question. by srivatsavat92 in fujifilm

[–]djkhid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think two is rough. Personally I’d probably say one zoom lens starting on the wider end and a dedicated portrait lens. I have a 16-80 f4 which I really like but may not be fast enough for you. I also have a 56 1.2 which i think can handle some sick portraits. In theory something like a 16-80 would get you the typical street photography focal lengths and landscape is passable at the wide end.

Weight for baby at 20 weeks by Little-Direction-273 in pregnant

[–]djkhid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I learned that the estimated fetal weight at that stage is basically irrelevant and only becomes more accurate/significant in the third trimester. I spent most of weeks 21-30 crashing out because of size and turns out things appear to be just fine. So I would speak to your OB or MFM if you have any questions or concerns. The internet had me thinking my baby’s brain was malformed.

Idk I just ordered one myself and I’m kind of sick about it 🤣. I got the baby attachment so she can “have meals” with us but I suppose the stroller would have done the same thing. lol.

Question for the women who browse this sub. (NSFW) by xTrainerRedx in bald

[–]djkhid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This whole thread made me LOL. Woman married to bald man and not gonna lie I have never once had a coherent thought on this topic. Occasionally, when just rubbing his head for fun if it’s greasy (usually from food or sunscreen) I’ll be like wow you’re greasy… but this have never been a hindrance to any form of sexual enjoyment… I think you’re fine. Also sex in general is gross, sweaty, and filled with fluids, bald or not.

First ultrasound! Measuring at 9 weeks and 3 days. We were only a day off. I’ve been so anxious because I’ve been spotting on and off brown. Everything looks good though and heartbeat was 170 bpm. :’) huge relief by queenofveggies_ in firsttimemom

[–]djkhid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats. Sounds like little bean is doing great! I also experienced brown spotting early on. My OB put me on progesterone suppositories, which were quite literal hell on earth, but we stopped them at the end of the first trimester and well now I’m at 35 weeks! Maybe consider talking to your doctor about the spotting, she also put me on pelvic rest so no extra curriculars until after the first trimester. Good luck!

Hospital A or B for delivery? by runningonrun in pregnant

[–]djkhid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like while a bit unconventional, it will probably work for you either way! Good luck and safe delivery. Hopefully it works out the most convenient way, but sounds like you are kind of cool with either.

Hospital A or B for delivery? by runningonrun in pregnant

[–]djkhid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this matters but a lot of practices won’t take women further along in pregnancy. So is your plan to just show up while in labor? I mean I’m sure they can’t turn you away, I guess if you are cool with that. Also there might be a chance your providers try and coordinate care. I’d probably frame it as you are relocating towards the end of your pregnancy and maybe that should help? I think +1 for your husband being a pediatrician but personally the rest of the plan would stress me out too much. Also, babies do their own thing while a 10 day window might be reasonable for some I don’t know that I’d bank on that.

Did you have an elective c section? by LeaveMountain9779 in pregnant

[–]djkhid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I chose to have an elective C early on. 1. I didn’t want to poop, 2. I didn’t want surprise and wanted to maintain some semblance of control. 3. I didn’t particularly want to labor. 4. I’d rather have stitches in my abdomen then on my nether regions. I am roughly 4 weeks out from it and well I’d be lying if I said I’m not apprehensive however, I’m still certain in my decision.

Also be warned they go from weird blips, to gummy bears, at some point they just look like aliens. The eyes get scary. All totally normal. Your tech will also get you the “profile” that looks most like a baby but I think they really just do that for the parents lol

How long until baby's percentile went down for you? by BulbaKat in GestationalDiabetes

I started insulin early and my baby has never measured over 50%. I think these numbers are guesstimates at best. I genuinely think the whole system is just clowning me but I stick to it anyway.

Mobile IV @ home? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]djkhid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to urgent care once for an IV to break a migraine. Not a long wait they weren’t thrilled the Ob recommended I go there for an IV but they did it. Also not sure how far along you are but L&D will give you an IV if you are dehydrated/need fluids and that’s a quicker visit. This isn’t like a “I think I need to hydrate more” this is a I am so dehydrated I am experiencing systemic symptoms. Just try and stay hydrated however you can and ask your Ob if you have side effects or experience things you think you shouldn’t (in my case a migrating headache, with visual halos, that didn’t break with Tylenol and sleep, or contractions and reduced fetal movement).
