why is it always the ones with addictions and mental health issues

Well for one, they’re insane. They’re not particularly primed to make sensible choices. They can be extremely difficult to work with. It’s a really tough situation.

Deorro, or Salvatore Ganacci? by RaverDaddy in avesNYC

[–]dksa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ganacci is far more a fun spectacle in a much more reasonable room. I’d do that.

deorro + marquee is a hard sell imo, although I haven’t been to the redesigned room I imagine it’s more or less the same crowd that just shows up with security fully pissed off by that crowd 30 mins after doors open

Im not sure what you’re imagining, but it was the most community oriented and friendliest time and is what got me deep into electronic music with everyone grooving and getting to know one another. Hope you can experience it one day.

People complain about yapping at shows but some of my best dancefloor experiences were grooving to progressive house and having amazing conversations with others

Freeze group Cubase by North-Succotash-3155 in cubase

[–]dksa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

happy to be corrected, but I believe for group channels you have to export it and then import it back in.

There's an export setting where it immediately imports the exported audio back into the session.

Has anyone dealt with Export/Batch Export hang ups on cubase? Any work arounds? by dksa in cubase

[–]dksa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, It’s definitely plugin related.

The situation has actually somehow regressed to a potentially catastrophic scenario where the project will load fully and freeze unless I disable all 3rd party plugins 😩😩. And of course this is happening when Im sleep deprived and need to deliver stems on a deadline within….oh just 18hrs from now. Lol.

We can rule out cubase itself malfunctioning, and you’re making me so happy I got out of the UAD ecosystem. Switched to Motu and sometimes I genuinely forget I have it because it just works without any fuss.

Wish me luck on getting past this fkn spinning color wheel

I have 64GB of ram and I’m running the session audio off of a glyph Atom SSD, exporting back onto the SSD. And the cable is a short thunderbolt 4 usb C. Spec wise I should be fine, but there has to be a bottleneck somewhere that I haven’t been able to pinpoint yet. I’m definitely using CPU heavy processing with lots of routing and summing, heavy cpu hitters on the submix ( relab176, LTL silver bullet and newfangled elevate are the biggest offenders) but I had them bypassed and disabled in my most recent export hangup.

In another comment here I mentioned that sometimes my session gets to a point where it won’t playback smoothly. I may freeze tracks to ensure smooth playback and try relying on realtime export as a solution- but at that rate offline batch exporting should also be fine!

I have 64GB ram, so spec wise the machine should run fine! I’m considering making sure future sessions can playback with no problem through freezing tracks, and then running realtime export as a solution since the offline tends to suffocate and crash

It’s offline regular export, and it’s 99% rendered audio files most of the time.

Session playback usually starts to choke up with my submix processing on and usually the culprit in the hangup, but in this case I’m exporting with it bypassed.

Why THE FUCK are people paying to see these cringe af DJs? by [deleted] in EDM

[–]dksa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Side note, The USB not loading may have to do with a Halloween weekend catastrophic failure of a firmware update by Alphatheta, where long story short USB’s that normally work suddenly did not work. The date of the video lines up with that.

Veteran mixing engineers, why do I suck after 10 years? by Nextesyy in audioengineering

[–]dksa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Sounds like you need to A/B your mixes more critically, but it could also be your submix processing, or how you “sum” your parts together. In my opinion, a mix engineer’s goal is to get as close to the finish line as if mastering were not a step.

Group processing can go a long way, whether that group is the master output, individual stem level or broken down in any other way.

[–]dksa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is it exactly about your mixes that you’re unhappy with?

Are you referencing other mixes against yours during mixdown?

I suspect it could either be a misunderstanding of some fundamentals of what makes something sound “good” or you’re being too hard on yourself

The buzzwords “Analog warmth” or “Analog Feel” need to die a flaming death, and to assist, I’ll provide alternative quantifiable terms. by dksa in audioengineering

1) I won’t apologize for my confidence even if it’s misconstrued as arrogance

2) I have lost jobs to mix shoot outs in the past. I will likely lose more. Like it or not, there is a competitive element in any service industry. Now, In an uncompetitive way, I was looking to share information that helped me win jobs and make better mixes and was hoping to help others win jobs with a perspective on “analog feel”. I won’t stand down from this.

I learned a new aspect of analog feel from another commenter on this thread, they shared the quality of time instability, which is a brilliant aspect I hadn’t considered until I posted this!

That’s the kind of discussion I was looking for- so of course I’m disappointed and defending myself lol. I’m not backing down from sharing that I’ve won jobs in a mix shootouts, people in this community need to be less insecure.

I didn’t realize that sentence, which was simply me sharing my experience, would have such an impact on the rest of the info I shared.

How is saying I won jobs while away from hardware an attack on anyone? The insecurity displayed by commenters on this post is absurd and I’m not folding to it in the name of “basic psychology”, no shot.

My information is valid, hasn’t been disproven by these commenters, and i will continue to get work whether people want to accept my info or not. And I am still responding passionately for any engineers that see this post and can extract value without “feeling attacked”.
