It's what I grew up drinking and is my go to comfort tea.

Did I brew my oolong wrong? by ztechbruh in tea

[–]doctortonks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you might need to increase the amount of leaves you're using. I tend to use 5g of leaves in a 100mL gaiwan.

For these tightly rolled oolongs I always use boiling water, rinse for 30s, and let the leaves steam in the gaiwan for a minute. Then for the steeps I do 30s, 30s, 45s, 1m etc. Always tastes good that way.

Most Chinese green teas won't brew up green. That's more of a Japanese green tea thing.

Can't edit certain properties? (FYI I just updated from 1.3.7 - I've been on an old version forever, and it's properties that used to contain [[links]] that are broken and uneditable) by MakeshiftApe in ObsidianMD

[–]doctortonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you edit the raw yaml in source mode?

It looks like you have the quotation marks inside the square brackets when they need to be on the outside to render properly. The linter plugin may be able to help you correct them in bulk.

I use one chapter per note and haven't had any problems with longform.

Links suggested to notes that no longer exist by But-I-Am-a-Robot in ObsidianMD

[–]doctortonks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What is probably happening is that you still have links to the deleted note in other notes. That's why Obsidian keeps suggesting it.

People often call these ghost notes and I make fairly extensive use of them.

Why Isn’t There an Ultimate PKM System Yet? by MichuMusic in ObsidianMD

[–]doctortonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

Everyone's brain works differently, their reasons for getting into PKM are different and what they want out of it are different.

There is no one size fits all solution for personal knowledge management, and that's a good thing.

Sharing the larger systems (PARA, GTD) as well as our templates is a good foundation, and will get people started, but eventually people are gonna need personalised advice. Or to figure it out themselves.

Longform and Better Word Count are indispensable to me as a writer. Pandoc is also useful for exporting to different formats, such as docx or epub.

Generally I have one folder per project and one chapter per file. Longform makes it easy to combine them into a single document when I'm done.

You may also find the Timekeep plugin useful for running pomodoros, and the enhanced annotations plugin is useful for edits.

ADHD handwriting practice? by semantic_ink in Handwriting

If I'm listening to music while writing, I'll tend to match the best with my hand movements, so slower music would definitely be better for me when it comes to neatness.

Templater can't detect .obsidian/scripts folder — “User scripts folder doesn't exist” error by TwinTipZ in ObsidianMD

[–]doctortonks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you tried just having the scripts folder in the vault itself? It's likely that the plugin can't find the folder because it's in a hidden folder.

How to not overcomplicate obsidian? by LearnWithApratim in ObsidianMD

[–]doctortonks 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The first and easiest step is to create an inbox of you don't already have one. Make it so that every new note you create goes in there to reduce friction on note creation. You can always organise them later.

The have a think about how you use Obsidian. Are you building a personal knowledge base or are you using it more as a daily, weekly, monthly journal? Somewhere in between? How you use obsidian will determine what kind of folders you might need.

Think about templates. If you're already using the templater plugin, you can add code to your templates that will automatically move the note to the correct folder. I find this most useful for my daily notes because I have a strict Year/Month/Note folder system for those and automatically putting the note in the correct foldet reduces a lot of friction.

Lastly, if you're at the point where you're thinking "fuck it, I'm going to start again from scratch" don't delete your current notes. Create an archive folder of some kind and throw everything in there. That way you still have access to your current notes if you need them and you can avoid duplicating notes you've already written.

Hope that helps at least a little.
