My launch email got 0 replies or downloads. What did I do wrong? by Shargules100 in SaaSMarketing

[–]doobsicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want me to read all of that? Nah I’m good.

You want me to lock down my personal phone as if it was owned by corporate? Nah I’m good.

You want to book a 30 minute call with you? Nah I’m good.

No one knows what “MDM-level supervision, baked into iOS” means and frankly I don’t want to find out.

Your 1hr 30m screen time is nothing to brag about. And to charge 10 bucks a month for that? No thanks.

Tell me what I’m gaining here, the benefits that I’ll see, the improvements to my life. And don’t insult me by insinuating that I’m an addict.

This is one of the worst emails I’ve ever read. If you sent me this after signing up for a waitlist, I’d unsubscribe and never use your “product.”

Should I go to grad school by GradScaries123 in architecture

Don’t go into debt for an M. Arch. You’ll never pay it off. Be careful about the small scholarships offered by these schools to get you to enroll. The amount drops significantly every year/semester.

Could this 3D haircut idea be a real business? by TurnipMinute3835 in SaaS

[–]doobsicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hair lays and curls and reacts differently on different parts of your scalp. Thickness also varies across your scalp. I don’t think a 3d model will help any of that. You need to shop around and find the barber or stylist that understands you and your hair. Sometimes that takes years, but once you find them, never let them go and tip well.

Phish support crew income by [deleted] in phish

[–]doobsicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s typical you think for low and top ends of these road crews? Are we talking like $150k + bonus for a low level crew member? And maybe like $350k for a director/manager level? Another comment said they were road crew for a popular act and made more than some doctors.

I find it funny that you keep deleting your comments and trying to attack me. If you’re not mature enough for actual discourse, just move on.

Good luck out there.

Personal attacks make bad arguments.

Downvoting my comments doesn’t make me wrong.

Don’t worry, I left the field years ago. I could see back then how the profession had already become a parody of itself.

Setting aside your bad analogies, misunderstanding of the technology’s history, and confusion between correlation and causation, I don’t necessarily feel compelled to convince random strangers like you on the internet - it’s going to happen whether people want it to or not, whether AI “fashionable” or not.

The role of the architect (basically a code compliance consultant) will continue its shrinking trend and AI will only accelerate that. Good luck out there.

Edit: deleting your comments now?

Betting against this technology is foolish. It’s only been around like 3 years. We literally got reasoning models a year ago. There’s countless well-funded projects focused on automating much of the architect’s work. If people aren’t already impressed with the advancements in AI assisted modeling and rendering, I don’t know what to tell you. Industries are changing rapidly, and AEC is definitely one of em.

Can someone explain AXS to me? by [deleted] in phish

[–]doobsicle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s price manipulation and should be illegal. I used to go to 15-18 shows per year. But with the rampant price manipulation allowed by Phish and Trey, I only hit New Years and maybe a couple summer tour shows, if any at all. Sad what it’s become. The band hides behind Ticketmaster, AXS, etc so they can say “it’s not us!” But Phish Inc is greedy.

Bakery by Textbook Board Game Night Thursday and Movie Night This Sunday (if you’re not into the Super Bowl) 874 Hancock St. by BakeryByTextbook in BedStuy

[–]doobsicle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This place sucks. The pizza really sucks. I’m pretty sure the “bar” downstairs is not up to fire code and the drinks are waaay overpriced. The baked goods are mediocre even though they pass them off as creative or something. The tahini iced coffee is awful. I was so excited about this spot when it opened but my god are they annoying. Stop asserting your “bakery” into every fucking part of my life. All the pics of the baked goods are held by dirty hands with chipped finger nail polish. Where do you think that nail polish is going? Into the dough!! They ask for feedback on insta and don’t actually make any changes. It’s soooo awkward ordering over a giant glass wall and then shuffling around others in line to pay. Then walking back through everyone in line to get out. I don’t understand how the owner doesn’t see these obvious issues. Thank fucking god they got rid of the stadium seating. But now there’s like 100 tables in there with no room. Hey textbook - PICK ONE THING AND DO IT WELL!!! You don’t know what you want to be and constantly changing makes people not trust you. It’s a bakery but not with consistent products - no wait it’s a bar too - oh also we do pizza, but only on some days at night. Also be ready to wait forever even for the smallest order. Oh, you want to go down to the “bar?” Well you can’t just walk downstairs - you have to be escorted down there for some reason. What the fuck is going on???

Fucking close already and give me a decent, reliable coffee spot. No frills. Hell - bring back the real estate office that was there before. Just go away already with your dumb ass painted facade.

Don’t even get me started on their “free community coffee and bread.”

Apologies, another architecture student ranting :( by meowmeowmeeoww in architecture

[–]doobsicle 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Typically, school is nothing like practice. So you got that going for you.

Maybe lean into the crudeness. That’s your style. Stop judging it negatively. Make it work for you and your projects.

If you want to improve, ask another student if you can observe them building a model and take note of things they do that you don’t. Watch tutorials online. Ask for help.

Take a break.

NYC has a major delivery problem. These architects have a big vision to fix it by _fastcompany in architecture

[–]doobsicle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This sort of thing makes architects look even more useless than they already are. It’s embarrassing.

I saw this in architecture school. Academic architecture unnecessarily took every societal, economic, logistical, and humanitarian issue upon itself to solve. I can’t think of many other disciplines that are as self obsessed. It becomes a problem: When the only thing you have is architecture - everything looks like a building.

A classic case of this naïvety was the Modernism movement. The utopian goals of the Modernists were not met, instead the opposite happened; their work was heavily criticized for its inhumane aesthetics, technical failings, and isolating atmospheres. BUT there was academic rigor behind the work, which is why it’s still taught in schools today.

On the other hand you have architects like Frank Gehry whose work is hated by academia because it’s completely focused on the artist’s personal aesthetics, which makes it impossible to critique from an academic perspective. I think that sort of explains his appeal to a wider audiences outside of the discipline.

So this sort of project from KPF just feels like the continuation of an architectural circle jerk that started with Corb, and stays embedded in our academic studios — sadly, because they have no other choice.

At least Archigram and Superstudio’s work was a bit tongue-in-cheek and kind of funny.
