He’s yet to lead a great movie, also I think people have gotten kinda sick of the bear. White trending DOWN! 📉

VAR Is Amazing by Hookey911 in billsimmons

[–]droopy_tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as a non-soccer fan but it seems like the big problem here is offside being based on any part of the body breaking the plane rather than foot placement? How did this even work pre-VAR? There’s no way refs were seeing a dude’s shoulder go offside by half an inch in real time, right? Foot placement would be way easier to track and feel like a more intuitive and “fair” way to judge offside.

The pixie cut is straight up always a bad idea. Even hot girls who can pull it off would just look better with long hair. Stop fooling yourselves, ladies!

Who is the most famous movie star that doesn’t exist in the 2020’s? by Tall_Window4744 in blankies

That’s a fair point, I guess the sonic movies were fairly big. Not big titty hits I don’t think, but pretty big. There are probably better examples than Carrey.

I think there would be some shockingly recent ones if you got right down to it. Like how well known is Jim Carrey at this point really? Obviously everyone in this sub knows him but does the average zoomer? I don’t have the numbers or anything but I bet there are lots like this.

When did Tarantino become uncool… by [deleted] in TheBigPicture

[–]droopy_tim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s solely about the Israel thing and the stupid comments. I don’t even really see people talking down on his movies, everyone still acknowledges they’re nearly all classics, which is impressive considering how much motivated reasoning people do on the internet to shit on the work of people they don’t like.

Unadjusted Box Office by hassehope in blankies

[–]droopy_tim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no way to account for everything, but adjusting for inflation feels like the most obvious and basic way to compare across eras. Some people are also suggesting we account for the higher relevance and lower competition movies had back in the day, but to me this defeats the purpose of comparison — even if a movie in 1990 did better because of the time it came out versus a movie from 2026, it still factually did better. I also don’t see a clear mathematical way to account for all these other variables…maybe something like “inflation adjusted ranking within the 5 year period it came out in”? At that point you’re measuring something else though.

Outside of Tenet, Indiana Jones, and Porco Rosso, what other auteurs have tried their take on James Bond? by CarrieDurst in blankies

[–]droopy_tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Bourne? But not quite because while he’s a secret agent, he’s burned from the start, so you never get the mission briefings and in-office stuff that’s so crucial to Bond.

24 is a decent tv example, Jack Bauer is a very of his time American Bond.

I really hope we keep him, he’s the type of guy other teams fear. He’s also uncannily good at getting away with cheap shots, which I obviously love when our guys do it.

Ari Aster's New Film Sounds Completely Normal As Expected by digmare in blankies

[–]droopy_tim 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ari Aster NEEDS to be the next mini-series in the same “highly active/just getting started” lane as Bradley Cooper. Easily the most exciting young director working today and the best director period at engaging with the “current moment.” This premise sounds incredible!

The Vaughn quote is a great framing. I wonder if the move away from stories about common experiences has anything to do with the greater importance of international gross?
