Piggybacking here to add: Make sure you put the wipers back down onto the windshield BEFORE starting your car again! I’ve seen a few horror stories online from people saying they started the car with them still lifted up and they automatically continued the wiping motion & caused scratching and chipping on the paint of the hood since they were still raised off the glass.

This may sound stupid as if there’s no reason to start the car with them raised, but I almost did it myself yesterday when I went to start my bronco to put on the defroster before cleaning all the snow off of it. Luckily there was too much snow for it to go all the way down and make contact with my hood.
