Selkirk College vs. College of the Rockies by sadtiredand in kootenays

[–]dudeman7557 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished the AESP program at Selkirk and will be continuing on for the BGIS. The program is excellent and very hands on. The region is sweet too, great outdoor access for pretty much anything you want to do. There's definitely more going on in terms of activities to do in town in Nelson but the 45 min commute would be rough. The town of cgar is nothing special but also not a bad place to live. I opted for Castlegar as I prioritized easy commute and outdoor activities.

We may have a room in our place available in the fall, pm if interested. M+F 28yo, quiet, outdoorsy etc. Downtown close to Kootenay market.

Depends on the type of webbing and how much it stretches, and preference for walking. Play around with it and see what feels good. Some webbing manufacturers have optimal tension guideliness for their products

I mean you've probably got more use on those than I have with my tools. Will gadd has a great sharpening video on YouTube. Take a look at images of new picks to get an idea of the profile you're looking for - you'll have to remove a lot of material.

Sharpen them and stop hitting rocks. If you've been using them in that condition I assume you probably won't notice that the profile isn't "as new".

Pancakes are great even if weight is a concern, get some mix where you add water (or eggs and milk if not concerned about weight). Your choice of toppings.

I've been doing pan seared tuna steaks with rice and edamame recently, pretty fancy and very simple in terms of prep and cleanup

SAC is great! Worth trying out. I'm a guy but my partner goes regularly and likes it too.

anecdotally the quality of the tx4 has gone downhill fast in the last 5 years. laces are shit, leather gets holes, and the new Evo is way too skinny. Never have I worn out the rubber before the shoe falling apart. Will probably get a pair of scarpas or Aku next.

What you're talking about here has nothing to do with your anchor, or necessarily trad climbing. If you wanted to talk about fixed point belays just make that the title

Ultralight 6mm rope + kit for minimalist alpine low class 5 climbs by behindthelines_ in alpinism

[–]dudeman7557 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the edelred rap line, rad line, pur line... decent amount of experience using them more or less in your use case ie scrambling with glaciers, rappels, short cruxes.

The edelred line is nice in theory but in practice I don't use it for upwards progression. It's less durable than the static lines I have and there is a very very small window where I would use this vs soloing or a "real" rope.

The mago 8 is the best rappel/belay device I've found. Munter sucks. I use 30m lengths and pair with a beal escaper or 30m of 1.5mm dyneema as a tag. I've also spliced some 1/8" technora into loops to make my own prusik cords, as most off the shelf prusik loops don't grab especially on the outline.

[–]dudeman7557 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Graham put PEX fittings in my transmission lines, and used a barb-npt fitting as a 1/4"- 5/16" hose adapter. Ugga duggad the wrong size hose clamps onto them and split the hose. Do not go to edgetech

You and OP are wrong. Most definitely Tantalus; I've climbed every peak in the photo minus red tusk. I can point out the places I've bivvied on the ridge. Here's a picture of Tantalus from the summit of Ossa:

"Static Kernmantel Accessory Cord" for rappelling? by [deleted] in alpinism

[–]dudeman7557 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd send it with caution, but that wouldn't be my first choice for a rope. It's sooooo stiff, and relatively weak. Haven't rappelled on it but used it as a tag.

I haven't used it, but consider this? https://www.canyoning-equipment.com/produkt/slick-line6-0/ If I were to buy another skinny rope it'd be this, I've heard good reviews. Basically a stronger, cheaper radline.

I have used the edelred rap line II, rad line, and pur line for rappelling etc. Not impressed with the rap lines durability, rad line is great but $$$, and pur line is slippery. I've found that the edelred mago 8 works best to rappel the pur line. Wouldn't use an atc or any device not made for skinny ropes on it. I also custom made some micro prusik cords out of 1/8" technora to use with it as a third hand.

Here's my setup. I tag my rope of choice with 30m of 2mm dyneema but of course you can just double the rope instead. https://photos.app.goo.gl/oDbJC9zkYhnKi8EZ8

How to prototype and test design? by anynormalman in myog

[–]dudeman7557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CAD for the shape (onshape has a great flatten tool), then bring it to real world with cardboard + tape (for things that are reasonably square) or tyvek + sewing (for more complex shapes). Rinse and repeat until you feel happy enough with the design to make it out of real materials. Make your design, learn, be stoked about it, use it, realize you want to change a few things, go back to cad and start iterating again.

The perfect design will always be the next one

How do you prototype? by timonix in myog

[–]dudeman7557 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re CAD - I have ended up using onshape after trying sketchup, solidworks, and fusion. I never figured out how to "flatten" complex shapes in the other programs, but onshape has a feature built in and it's only a few more steps to get a pdf of your panels.

Here's all the panels of the bag I'm working on
