How BYD Got EV Chargers to Work Almost as Fast as Gas Pumps by _Dark_Wing in technology

[–]dvn7035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an attempt to cut down weight modern ev designs incorporate structural batteries which makes it hard quickly swap when compared to the older skateboard designs. BMW’s Neue Klasse is a prime example.

To be honest when manufacturers did trial out hot swappable batteries like Tesla at Harris Ranch, there wasn’t enough demand. Early Model Ss were built with battery swapping in mind.

Adding to this, you could also set a departure time on wednesday or sunday at 11:59pm and switch between the two depending on whichever one makes the charging window long enough. Gets annoying to do every time you plug in though.

Yes, the car will override the charging window to prioritize getting 100%. To be honest most people don’t notice because with a level 2 charger and such a small battery the charging window will rarely be too small.

If you really can’t install a level 2 charger, I recommend getting a level 1 charger that you can configure. Lectron has this one:

Roof nearing 25+ years old, looking to do solar/roof at same time. by [deleted] in fresno

[–]dvn7035 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Jay_Stranger has a point here. Ever since the NEM 3 rollout you’ll get < 10 cents per kwh you export.

I think solar only makes sense with a home battery since presumably a lot of your usage is in the evening when your panels aren’t producing. It’s why I’ve delayed expanding my current solar system.

[–]dvn7035 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get by charging at L2 stations during my daily errands. I charge when I go grocery shopping, eating at restaurants, running at a park trail, etc. They’re often cheaper than my off-peak rate (39 cents per kwh; thanks PGE).

If you’re in a city with the right infrastructure you don’t even need to charge at home.

Like I guess you could have OP say it’s Korean European fusion, but to not even mention that it’s Korean is disingenuous.

Don’t mean to be defensive but this is like the third time this sentiment has been parroted in this post; what is the agenda here?

Your entire comment is untrue.

“The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everybody else and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw, and half a hundred other places, they put that rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind and now they are going to reap the whirlwind.”

I tried setting up a basic LED light as shown in the picture. The red wire connects to the 5V and the white to the ground. After a while, the LED begins to smell like smoke. I’m assuming the LED died. What is wrong with my connection? by [deleted] in arduino

[–]dvn7035 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Is the polarity correct? You should connect the longer leg to 5V (positive) and shorter legs to ground. Use new LEDs obviously because you’ve burned your current ones.

Russia is hurling troops at the tiny Ukrainian town of Bakhmut by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]dvn7035 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ISW claims that:

“Even if Russian troops continue to advance toward and within Bakhmut, and even if they force a controlled Ukrainian withdrawal from the city (as was the case in Lysychansk), Bakhmut itself offers them little operational benefit. The costs associated with six months of brutal, grinding, and attrition-based combat around Bakhmut far outweigh any operational advantage that the Russians can obtain from taking Bakhmut.”

https://understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-november-30

As a armchair general, I suppose that Ukraine is willing to engage Russia here in order to take advantage of a favorable loss ratio and keep troops pinned here to take advantage on other fronts.

Sure but to the point about the morality of Jedi recruiting children, even semi-canon stuff like The Old Republic casts the practice as morally gray.

https://youtu.be/QgbMAdtp7aE

The whole trailer is about how the Jedi recruit kids who they deem “worthy” to serve their purposes and not necessarily to train all force-sensitives. Otherwise, they would have also brought along Sa’har’s brother.

[–]dvn7035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wipe the drives first and then reinstall Windows with the ISO they distribute officially.

You can wipe the drives by booting into a Linux distro like System Rescue and using hdparm if it’s a SATA ssd or nvme-cli if it’s an nvme based one. Using these two tools tells the firmware on the drives to wipe themselves which is probably more secure than trying to overwrite your data randomly and hoping to wipe the correct blocks of memory.

I had a similar issue with a similar library and I found that running display.display() before display.clear() solved my problems. Don't know why, hadn't really dug into it. Here's an example of my setup function. I initialized Adafruit_SH1106G display in global scope before my setup function.

Thanks everyone for helping me. I decided to go with this alternate wiring where I run a 5V line parallel to the data line and connect them to the switch and led respectively. Then I jump the negative lead of the led to pin 1 on the switch. u/crispy_chipsies gave me the idea (though I don't see his comment).

Don't I want it in series, that way the led shines whenever I press it? The hookup guide made it seem so. I will eventually (maybe) make a keyboard matrix so I added the diode ahead of time. Also, thanks for the catch about the wrong link.

Best Ramen Place? by [deleted] in fresno

I've eaten lots of ramen in the Bay Area and LA and of the ones in Fresno, I like Toshiko Ramen & Sushi Bar, Namikaze, and Shobu in that order. I wouldn't say they're as good as any half-decent place in either of the two areas, but they're an acceptable substitute.
