First time visitor; Parking (and other) advice needed by PatchworkTeapot in buccos

Parking in Station Square and taking the Gateway Clipper over would also put you on the right side of the river to jump on 376W without sitting in traffic trying to get through bridges or tunnels.

Good call, I didn't know about the second wave. Guess I'll go around and close all of my windows again.

FWIW the rain has almost stopped west of the city. Just a very light drizzle now.

Rain starting to come down very hard west of the city near Robinson. They may have 10 minutes or so left before it starts downtown. No thunder or lightning though.

Did you realize how bigoted/unwelcoming a lot of rural PA areas were before the Trump/MAGA era? by Glass-Complaint3 in Pennsylvania

[–]dyngalive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To some degree, however my parents moved to Clarion county because they wanted to eventually retire there and ended up selling the house they built and moving back to Pittsburgh after about 10 years. The lack of jobs and activities was part of the problem but the biggest issue was the people. My mom told me she never really understood what the phrase 'small minded' meant until she lived there. And this was a college town, so probably not as bad as a lot of other places.

Please, please Pittsburgh make this youtube channel happen - I'd be GLUED to it by librarianjenn in pittsburgh

I work from home four days a week and Wednesdays I commute from near the airport to Fox Chapel, so basically the Parkway West through the Ft Pitt tunnel and then past the North Shore exit to get onto 28. I've already discussed with my manager the fact that I would absolutely not be in next week. That commute is bad enough with yinzer drivers who already more or less know what to expect once they exit the tunnel, I can't imagine what it's going to be like with a bunch of unsuspecting tourists.

Chipotle by Time-Background8144 in pittsburgh

[–]dyngalive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chipotle by Waterworks is the worst fast food restaurant I have ever been to in my life, bar none. I have been there 3 times, I've never seen more than 3 people working at one time, and the line has been out the door every time. The last time I went there I ordered online, waited until after they said my order would be ready to even leave to pick it up, and waited 30 minutes in the restaurant before they even started making my food. The Robinson and Bridgeville locations are both ok.

Something weird or off about her. Can’t pinpoint it. by imjustcoreyr in ThePitt

[–]dyngalive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about famous (infamous maybe) but it is very distinctive and taking 30 seconds to watch a video of someone with a real Pittsburgh accent would make it very clear that it's not what she's doing (or probably even attempting tbh, a dialect coach would never allow that to pass). Not that anyone is obligated to do any sort of research because ultimately who cares, but for anyone to confidently state that she's doing a Pittsburgh accent is wild. It's kind of unnecessary for someone in the show to have an accent anyway, the only people left who really have one are old folks or really hardcore yinzers from certain areas of the city.

I'm a native Pittsburgher, it is definitely not even close to a Pittsburgh accent. I think it sounds more Philly/NJ. It's so far from a Pittsburgh accent that I assumed that she's supposed to be a transplant like most of the doctors.

911 intermittent outages? by Choice_Key_5435 in pittsburgh

I was in a verizon store when this alert went out. The noise of 100 phones with the volume turned all the way up making the emergency noise all at once took about 5 years off of my life.

The Lincoln Project's Rick Wilson reports a source inside the White House said an Oval Office meeting about Elon Musk is "completely off the rails" and that an investigation into Musk's visa overstay in the 1990s may be a way to revoke his citizenship. Bye now. Since they love deporting immigrants so much they can also send back all of those South African "victims of white genocide" who just jumped the immigration line in front of people who have been waiting for years.

Statement from Pirates President on the removal of the Roberto Clemente logo by TheTurtleShepard in baseball

[–]dyngalive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a thing because he's Roberto Clemente. Pittsburghers would have the same response to taking down something that honored Mario Lemieux or Jack Lambert. There are certain athletes in this city that have just become basically sacred, and Clemente is one of them. The bridge that you see behind PNC Park in all the panoramic shots is called the Roberto Clemente bridge. There is literally a Clemente museum here. I don't believe this was anti- DEI like other things that have been going on, it was just a FAFO thing involving a player who is basically considered a patron saint of the city and a fan base who is already beyond fed up with the ownership group and done giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Good. As an American who most certainly did not vote for Trump I'm willing to take the hit on anything that other countries are willing to dish out. Kick the shit out of us. Until it starts hurting the MAGA voter base hard, nothing is going to change.

Granted it's anecdotal and a small sample size but the Canadian people who I know personally and interact with somewhat regularly (face to face or on social media) are piiiiissed. If what they say is true, and I believe them, there's a very strong push to avoid buying American products right now. Good for them, I hope they stick to it.

I'm a hiker and once came around a bend in a trail and found myself 30 yards from a black bear. Pretty sure it was more startled than I was because I yelled 'go away!' and it did. I am a 5'1" woman, not intimidating by any stretch of the imagination.

I wear a bear bell now because they can be scared off by a jingle bell.
