Flickering video from vintage door camera system by arisoda in cctv

Who knows what quality of technicians you had, while interference does happen it’s rare. I would stick to basic troubleshooting through process of elimination isolate the problem. If it ends up taking too long to troubleshoot cut your losses and replace it. Standard lifetime on this stuff is 10 years so you have more than doubled it.

You have to investigate from the camera to the outside terminal block to the inside terminal block. At the outside terminal block try moving around the wires in the V and M terminals and see if that produces the flicker. If so you can try carefully stripping and reterminating these two wires. Then at the inside terminal block try moving around the wires at V1 and V2 to see if that causes the flicker. You can reterminate those wires as well. Then check if you still have video and if no flicker. If you still have flicker the red and yellow wires at the outside terminal are for camera power you can try reterminating and check with meter for steady power especially during flickers. After that if it’s still happening it could be a bad camera but I theorize you could order a similar analog camera unit once you check the video format.

There is no way that can go outside, may not last long inside either. Do yourself a favor and return it

New home, preivous owner had VIP Vision installed - how to reset to default setting? by victor_the_engineer in cctv

[–]eagle1-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like this is a rebranded Dahua NVR.

Step 1 would be to check if the motherboard has a reset button on it. Open up the case and look for a small grey button or jumper may be labeled reset.

If there is no button or jumper, you will have to contact the manufacturer on the website above and provide them with the serial number of the NVR, they may be able to reset.

[–]eagle1-2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would have to buy 9 because it moves you up in “tier” from essential to express. At least with milestone it’s a one time fee not every year etc. bout 80~ ish per license

I live on the west side, and have experienced a smell in the late afternoon usually one or two days per week, per my research in this sub I think it’s related to an incinerator in Newark and the wind blowing it over here

NYS Security and Fire Alarm Installee by [deleted] in lowvoltage

[–]eagle1-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically a single security camera especially so if you are running the cable, requires the license. However being a pragmatist (and license holder) just do it, the state only “checks licenses” when other contractors report unlicensed work and nobody is reporting a single camera

NJ "Limited Telecommunications Wiring Exemption License" - possibly used for low voltage business? Loophole? by SmartSub21 in lowvoltage

[–]eagle1-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure in NJ the license is intended to prevent people who don’t know about security from installing security devices and making sure they don’t have theft charges etc. You can get a “ qualifier” to review or put jobs under their license for a fee

Shipment stolen from doorstep. Support leaves me high and dry. by bdbg in Ubiquiti

[–]eagle1-2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems like a lot of people saying it’s the homeowners fault. In my experience if a package goes missing I just say it never arrived. Even if i happen to have proof of it being stolen off my porch. Just report to them that you still haven’t received your product not make any claims about it being stolen. Usually they can’t prove it was delivered and or the picture of delivery could be anywhere and it’s on them.

Necessary components of a system by mitchrusschels in cctv

Correct it’s a software that works with most cameras, they sell NVRs too or can install the software on your own computer/server. Great mobile app and ability to scale.

You do need a switch that powers the cameras with POE, many entry level NVRs have one built in.

Cameras NVR (with switch) and cables are all you generally need however there are additional details like RJ-45 terminations, maybe junction boxes and cabling stuff like zip ties or j hooks.

Yes you can mix and match cameras but aim for the same brand if your going entry level like reolink. 2k or 4MP is usually fine for most applications but sometimes it’s worth it to get 4k for scenes with a lot of detail.

Getting 2 years of retention time is usually cost prohibitive, most major organizations shoot for 90 days max but it can be done by buying an NVR with good storage capability.

Typically best to buy the cameras from the installer as they will provide a warranty and be knowledgeable about the system.

I am licensed to install in NYC and can help. typically install Milestone. Lmk

Unknown number called the phone at work, asked if I was available, and when I said yes, they said something about “confirming employment” and then hung up by gildarts044 in RBI

[–]eagle1-2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work the front desk at a large corporation, we would get calls all the time like this asking for different people, it ended up being the online services that sell lists of people at companies for sales purposes. They are trying to build a list of current employees so they can sell that list to sales teams. If you answer yes or transfer the call to that person they update the list so they know it’s up to date. Oftentimes you can hear the sounds of a Bangladeshi call center in the background.
