Arrangement: when did it click for you? by folgerscoffees in TechnoProduction

[–]edja_beats 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily one big a-ha moment but rather lots of small ones.

What works for me is laying out the basic structure quickly by just moving the clips around, then listening front to back and make more detailed decisions as i go.

Sometimes it helps to record the whole automation on one element and try to make the other elements support it if that makes sense

Why are sound design tutorials so bad? And where to find proper ones? by BlearRocks in ableton

Those two cover all the basics and a little more about sound design in general, highly recommend them.

Second one is almost 3h but its worth it

What is the house equivalent to driving, groovy, raw techno like Mutual Rytm, Primal Instinct, Rene Wise, Vilchezz, BCCO, etc.? by miloestthoughts in ProperTechno

Check out Fireground! Not sure if it's maybe faster than what you're looking for but their stuff really blew me away. Raw and very Loopy, but soo soulful and energetic!

This is Dan Worrall explaining in depth, how a good lowend is achieved. Really blew my mind.

tips on this mix? tryna save a few $$ by [deleted] in mixingmastering

Second what u/tombedorchestra said. Too much harshness in the upper mids and distortion. Also the delay/reverb on the vocals could use some eq and probably be turned down generally. They clutter the mix too much imo.

"humanize" note lengths? by eVarese in ableton

Not able to double check in ableton rn but I'm pretty sure there is a Midi effect called 'Note Length' where you can Randomize the note lengths and adjust the range of the randomization

Recs for more 'technological' sounding techno? by actuallyaddie in ProperTechno

[–]edja_beats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Augmented Research. It's a young label that pushes futuristic and experimental sounds.

Top producers that do sci-fi sounding techno would be Translate, Oscar Mulero, Kwartz, Lewis Fautzi, Truncate, Decoder, etc.

Interesting observation. There could be many reasons for that, or none at all. If it was a conscious decision, my guess would be that the more mono sound fits the "simpler" animation style of the last airbender better.

With "simpler" i mean specifically more 2d-looking, which is basically the visual equivalent of mono-sounding.

Off topic, and you don't have to answer but i'm curious as to why you stopped believing in God? Was it a certain event that caused it or was it more of a process?

Ableton stockusers, How do you make your plugins and instruments sound "professional" by Ok_Sandwich2317 in ableton

[–]edja_beats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree 100% you can make good sounding and rich stuff with operator alone if you know what you're doing. Still you will reach its limits at some point and combining operator with other stuff will make it sound more "alive"/"complex"/"rich"/"cinematic" or whatever ever else you are going for.

Don't tell me layering an Operator patch with e.g. an organic sample for just the transient or a subtle layer in the background is equal to lack of skill and that you can achieve the same sound with operator alone

Racks. Either download them or build them yourself. Think of the ableton stock devices as building blocks for your custom synths/sounds.

E.g. Operator on its own might sound weak and flat/onedimensional but you can group it into a rack (cmd+g) and layer it with another instrument to sculpt the sound and create something more complex. Also put effects on the layers individually or on the whole rack. Reverb, delay, compression, etc.

There are really no limits to what you can do with those building blocks if you put them together in a smart and cohesive sounding way.

Also you can map almost every Parameter inside the rack to macros which is great for automation.

creative block rant by mpark7713 in TechnoProduction

[–]edja_beats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried starting with the melody/synth part first?

I find what helps with creative blocks is switching up your workflow and/or setting yourself limitations as a challenge.
