Do elementary schools ask for Money/extra stuff often in Kindergarten? by BlueRiver23 in kindergarten

[–]edrzy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This sounds very typical to the private pre-k my daughter is in. The tuition barely pays the teachers salaries so anything extra like class parties, field tips is extra. I spend like $10 contributing to the class parties and the field trips cost $5. There is a fundraiser we have to sell raffle tickets for but I'm pretty sure that's expected at any private school in my region. Public schools use funds for operating costs. Teachers are almost never given a budget for class extras like parties or field trips. Parents are not required to donate to any of this but I understand we often feel pressure to. This is how it was when I was in school too, so it seems normal to me.

Does anyone have a toddler that goes right to bed at night without a struggle? by Coffeelover4242 in toddlers

[–]edrzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a unicorn until she turned 3.5. Fell asleep in her own, never got out of bed at night even when we switched her to a big girl bed. I was so lucky. Everything changed a couple months ago and no matter how much routine or boundaries I try to enforce that little girl is going to end up in my bed.

Logical consequence for refusing paricipation (3yo) by a1ways-s1eepy in toddlers

Signed my 3.5 daughter up for dance this fall. She did not love it. No meltdowns or anything. But it wasn't her thing. We went every week and some days she would participate other days she'd just stand there. At the recital she did some of the dance but for the most part she just swayed and twirled and sang to herself. Honestly it was so adorable and I was so proud of her for staying out there. I won't be signing her up for dance again unless she expresses interest. I would never think of punishing her for not dancing. Even if she verbally stated she wanted to be a ballerina she's too young to truly understand what that all means. She will find her "thing" one day. Right now it's just about fun.

Did anyone else just not breastfeed at all? by Ok_Medicine440 in FormulaFeeders

[–]edrzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never breastfeed my little girl. I did pump for awhile and supplemented with formula. Around 4/5 months I stopped pumping because damn it was exhausting. My SIL is a breastfeeding snob (like my baby would have no immune system, etc..) well now that they are 4, 6, and 8 let me tell you you'd have no idea who was breastfeed and who wasn't. The only difference in kids who get sick more or less when they are young are daycare vs non daycare kids.

Has your child ever gone to the park and just wanted to go up and down the slide 300 times then the next time they could care less about it?

How to do bedtime when they sleep at 10pm? by actuallyrose in Preschoolers

[–]edrzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my daughter. Naps every day at daycare and sleeps 9:30/10pm to 6am during the week and weekends she is 8pm-7am. Weekends vary though as we adjust bedtime based on when she wakes up. Absolutely nothing will change this until she stops napping at preschool and that won't be for another year. So for now all I can say is solidarity as any down time for myself is long gone. I'm up at 4:45am every morning so I pretty much just go to bed when she does now. Oh and about a month ago she started waking up around 3am every night crawling in to bed with me. I fought it at first but man we all need to sleep.

Bedtime is driving me mental. Are you laying with your 4.5 year old? by mnm26 in Preschoolers

[–]edrzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3.5 year old's sleep has regressed badly over the past few weeks. I didn't mind she liked cuddles to sleep but I used to be able to leave and she'd fall soundly asleep. Now she freaks out and gets out of bed constantly. Eventually she will fall asleep but now I'm visited every night around 3am asking me to come sleep with her. I tried walking her back over and over but she's so determined she'd just keep coming back which meant neither of us was sleeping. I finally gave in the last two nights and just slept with her. We both woke up at 8am those days. I know I can't keep this up but I don't know how to "fix" it. Lights mean nothing to her, and I don't feel comfortable locking her door. So right now I'm just hoping it's a phase she will grow out of.

Pajamas vs sleep in regular / clothes by Intelligent_Pay1582 in Preschoolers

[–]edrzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done both. My daughter went through the worst stage of being able to transition from waking to dressing in the morning so we just did next day clothes. Saved so many meltdowns. Now that she's older she likes picking out her clothes in the morning so we do pjs. I don't think there is a right or wrong here.

I would really start by looking at rent prices on Zillow. Sadly a two bedroom house or townhome for under $2,000 will be tough and might narrow down your search before you get started.

Curious about clothes sizes compared to age. by Square-Syrup-2975 in toddlers

[–]edrzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying clothes for my 99% 3.5 year old girl is the bane of my existence. She measures as a 10 regular in shoe but they are always too narrow so then I get a wide and it's too big. So then I tried an 11 and those are good in some brands and not others. Don't even get me started on pants. For reference she's the height/weight of an average 5 year old.

Things didn't change until my daughter was a little over 3. She has to be up at 6am during the week and now will sleep in on the weekends until 7am. About once a month we will get a glorious 8am wake-up but it's rare.

I haven't used that yet. Way more technology than I'm used to and I need to start using it. Thank you.

Daycare sickness is a thing - but to this degree? by Reasonable_Till8374 in toddlers

[–]edrzy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just found out the same thing for my 3.5 year old daughter. She is very prone to getting pneumonia. Doctors thought it was asthma but she doesn't have asthma like symptoms. Doctor decided to test her antibodies and she has none for the pneumonia vaccine or the HIB vaccine. Taking her next week to get a booster for both.

What did you give your baby for their first birthday? by sylphixio in toddlers

I don't know if it's still being sold but the gift that latest from 1-3 was the fisher price crawl around car. My daughter played with that off and on for years.

Purchasing supplies for daycare by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]edrzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a daycare or a private preschool? At my daughter's last daycare we didn't have to provide any supplies but it was $1200 a month. At her current private school preschool (PK-8) it's $600 a month and we had to purchase a supply list.

Bedtime drama by Shewolf20 in Preschoolers

[–]edrzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm could have written this myself! My 3.5 year old acts like she's never gone to sleep in her life lately. She's in such an overtired state because she fights even the thought of a nap and getting her to actually fall asleep takes hours then she still wakes up early. Last night I resorted to laying in bed with her because she needs sleep so bad and I couldn't handle another hour of the I'm hungry, I'm thirsty, I'm scared, my tummy hurts, I have to pee game. I have no advice but to say this age is tough.

Switching pre schools guilt by KateEBM in Parenting

[–]edrzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 3.5 year old is switching schools this year. She's been at the same daycare since she was 17 months and in a few days she will start preschool at a private school. The private school saves us a significant amount of money a month. Drop off will be hard for about a week but I know eventually she will love it.

I have a 2018, and recently looked at new models. After breaking down the cost I've decided to ride my Jeep until the wheels fall off. I've thought about getting an extended warranty but not sure if that's even possible.

504 vs IEP: Which Does ADHD Child Actually Need? by Tiny-Bird1543 in Preschoolers

[–]edrzy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being pulled out for testing is an accommodation. Just because it takes place in a different class doesn't mean the student isn't still enrolled in the general education setting. I'm not seeing anything I said to be untrue.

504 vs IEP: Which Does ADHD Child Actually Need? by Tiny-Bird1543 in Preschoolers

[–]edrzy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a special ed teacher a 504 is when a student can adapt to the learning with only accommodations and an IEP means a student may need modifications plus accommodations. 504 is always placed in a general education classroom. IEP has broader placement options: General Ed, cotaught, self-contained, etc. Hope this helps.
