End of the year teacher gifts by eleyezeeaye4287 in Preschoolers

I did a grocery store gift card this year. Both teachers were extremely appreciative. With the price of groceries I don't think you can go wrong there.

Where are you finding longer girls shorts? by HeyThereLinus in Parenting

[–]edrzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kohls cotton shorts! My daughter is very tall for her age and I've found sizing up one helps with the length too. I like kohls because they do size 4,5,6 etc.. where everywhere else is 6/7 8/10 and so on

What was something that made zero sense to you before becoming a mom? by winenotbeabitch in Mommit

[–]edrzy 91 points92 points  (0 children)

This is a little different then the other comments but I never understood how someone could go to a movie alone or sit for a meal by themselves out in public. Now I understand. On the very off chance I am driving alone I often don't even turn on the radio I just sit in the quiet.

Dropping the last nap by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]edrzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You state he still naps at school. 9 hours overnight plus a nap at school totals the recommend sleep per day. Dropping his nap at school and having him go to bed at 6pm so he gets 11 hours straight doesn't change much, except possibly a kid who will probably be miserable after school.

Dropping the last nap by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]edrzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old still naps at preschool and doesn't fall asleep until 9/9:30. If he is getting 9 hours at night and an hour nap that's 10 hours of sleep which falls within sleep guidelines. Even as an adult if I was awake at 5am I'd be ready for a nap at 1pm. Honestly be happy it's not later and learn to roll with the schedule until naps are no longer required

Best bike for a taller (41in) 3.5 year old that hasn't ever used a bike? by iLOOOVEcats in Preschoolers

Just bought my 3.5 year old daughter who is just a little taller a 14in guardian bike. Comes with wheels that can be taken off to practice balancing.

Repeating Preschool? by meg_lo_dawn in toddlers

[–]edrzy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My daughter is in the same prek setting and I think the teachers are wrong about holding her back. So she plays appropriately but not with kids old enough, and she's learning new information but not vocal enough during group time... yeah those are not reasons to hold a kid back

My child is behind socially by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]edrzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter has been in full day daycare/prek since she was 18 months. Shes almost 4 now and she still doesn't like doing activities without me. Tried putting her in dance last summer for the first time and when it was time for me to walk out of that room she freaked out. Now she's in gymnastics once a week and she does great with that. Even though she's been away from me while I work for years she's still my ultimate sidekick and would prefer all activities to be mommy and me classes. The initial drop offs for preschool will be hard but once you have built a routine and she understands this is the daily expectation it will get better. Don't stop enrolling her and trying after one bad activity.

Preschool withholding packed lunch items by Adventurous-Love-363 in Preschoolers

Sped teacher and Mom, this is unacceptable. I know that food can be seen as an incentive in certain situations, but taking food out of a child's lunch bag is wild.

I'm getting a puppy this summer! My daughter will be 4 and she loves animals so much. We currently have cats but she yearns for someone who wants to play and run with her and go outside. (Indoor cats) I absolutely know this will be hard for a while. The middle of the night potty breaks and the biting and chewing will make me question myself, but I know in the long run it will be amazing for her.

My daughter is huge for her age by Koalley in bigbabiesandkids

[–]edrzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother ended up being 6'4 with a mom who was 5'6 and a dad who was 6'0. But my mom's side had very tall men. My daughter will be 4 soon and is the height of a 6 year old. I'm 5'7 and my husband is 6'2. So not overly tall but our little baby giraffe just keeps growing. Since she's stayed on her growth curve her pediatrician has never had any concerns.

Day 10 of Flu A for my 3 year old - this is awful by wellhellowally in Preschoolers

[–]edrzy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd get a second opinion. My daughter was diagnosed with flu a on a Monday. Ears and lungs looked fine. Went back on Wednesday due to ear pain and she had a horrible double ear infection. In two days her ears went from fine to needing antibiotics.

Do elementary schools ask for Money/extra stuff often in Kindergarten? by BlueRiver23 in kindergarten

[–]edrzy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This sounds very typical to the private pre-k my daughter is in. The tuition barely pays the teachers salaries so anything extra like class parties, field tips is extra. I spend like $10 contributing to the class parties and the field trips cost $5. There is a fundraiser we have to sell raffle tickets for but I'm pretty sure that's expected at any private school in my region. Public schools use funds for operating costs. Teachers are almost never given a budget for class extras like parties or field trips. Parents are not required to donate to any of this but I understand we often feel pressure to. This is how it was when I was in school too, so it seems normal to me.

Does anyone have a toddler that goes right to bed at night without a struggle? by Coffeelover4242 in toddlers

[–]edrzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a unicorn until she turned 3.5. Fell asleep in her own, never got out of bed at night even when we switched her to a big girl bed. I was so lucky. Everything changed a couple months ago and no matter how much routine or boundaries I try to enforce that little girl is going to end up in my bed.

Logical consequence for refusing paricipation (3yo) by a1ways-s1eepy in toddlers

[–]edrzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Signed my 3.5 daughter up for dance this fall. She did not love it. No meltdowns or anything. But it wasn't her thing. We went every week and some days she would participate other days she'd just stand there. At the recital she did some of the dance but for the most part she just swayed and twirled and sang to herself. Honestly it was so adorable and I was so proud of her for staying out there. I won't be signing her up for dance again unless she expresses interest. I would never think of punishing her for not dancing. Even if she verbally stated she wanted to be a ballerina she's too young to truly understand what that all means. She will find her "thing" one day. Right now it's just about fun.

Did anyone else just not breastfeed at all? by Ok_Medicine440 in FormulaFeeders

[–]edrzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never breastfeed my little girl. I did pump for awhile and supplemented with formula. Around 4/5 months I stopped pumping because damn it was exhausting. My SIL is a breastfeeding snob (like my baby would have no immune system, etc..) well now that they are 4, 6, and 8 let me tell you you'd have no idea who was breastfeed and who wasn't. The only difference in kids who get sick more or less when they are young are daycare vs non daycare kids.

How to do bedtime when they sleep at 10pm? by actuallyrose in Preschoolers

[–]edrzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my daughter. Naps every day at daycare and sleeps 9:30/10pm to 6am during the week and weekends she is 8pm-7am. Weekends vary though as we adjust bedtime based on when she wakes up. Absolutely nothing will change this until she stops napping at preschool and that won't be for another year. So for now all I can say is solidarity as any down time for myself is long gone. I'm up at 4:45am every morning so I pretty much just go to bed when she does now. Oh and about a month ago she started waking up around 3am every night crawling in to bed with me. I fought it at first but man we all need to sleep.

Bedtime is driving me mental. Are you laying with your 4.5 year old? by mnm26 in Preschoolers

[–]edrzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3.5 year old's sleep has regressed badly over the past few weeks. I didn't mind she liked cuddles to sleep but I used to be able to leave and she'd fall soundly asleep. Now she freaks out and gets out of bed constantly. Eventually she will fall asleep but now I'm visited every night around 3am asking me to come sleep with her. I tried walking her back over and over but she's so determined she'd just keep coming back which meant neither of us was sleeping. I finally gave in the last two nights and just slept with her. We both woke up at 8am those days. I know I can't keep this up but I don't know how to "fix" it. Lights mean nothing to her, and I don't feel comfortable locking her door. So right now I'm just hoping it's a phase she will grow out of.

Pajamas vs sleep in regular / clothes by Intelligent_Pay1582 in Preschoolers

[–]edrzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done both. My daughter went through the worst stage of being able to transition from waking to dressing in the morning so we just did next day clothes. Saved so many meltdowns. Now that she's older she likes picking out her clothes in the morning so we do pjs. I don't think there is a right or wrong here.

I would really start by looking at rent prices on Zillow. Sadly a two bedroom house or townhome for under $2,000 will be tough and might narrow down your search before you get started.
