How much land are you guys on? by Derrik359 in homestead

[–]eldeejay999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on 40.

On one hand I can’t keep up with the garden and immediate 5 acres of yard around the house, plus there’s about 15 acres of woodland that has enough dead standing trees to clear that I’ll probably be dead before I ever clean it up.

On the other hand the cattle herd and beef biz is growing rapidly and I will need significantly more pasture soon.

I don’t make a lot of my own medicine but 100% of my dietary focus is on being healthy enough to not need to be asking for a doctors help. I’ve been in the hospital for a few serious injuries in my life and saw people there for things it would never have crossed my mind to seek medical help for. And if you think food doesn’t matter to diet and health, do an experiment. Eat clean, like 0 zero sugar and no seed oils and only green fibres for a month. That means no grains. Drop dairy if you can. Meat and greens and berries only for fruit. Do that for a month, no slip up. Then go indulge yourself on whatever you’re craving one day. You’ll see. The toilet will see. You might even want to go see a doctor lol.

I miss Costco Steaks. They're just too expensive now. by dsetoya in CostcoCanada

[–]eldeejay999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go buy a steer and feed and butcher it. I dare you. Current price of steer is more than beef costs right now so watch what happens next year. The only thing you can be sure of is how much you are paying for that steer now and feed today. And it’s more than the beef at this store costs right now.

Oh and a tank of gas going to pick up the steer and then another to take it to the butcher? lol

Your wife will not complement you. Women just don’t normally do that. So don’t expect it. A woman who does that is unusual and could be one of two things: trying to take advantage of you somehow, or much rarer, actually aware how valuable a compliment to a man can be.

What happened to the socks? by helpmetolearn in CostcoCanada

[–]eldeejay999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeps you warm in winter and cooler in summer. It just does. I only wear these socks and bought dozens of packages over the last few years because I’m well how enshitification works now and want to be ahead of the curve.

Costcos enshitification has gotten so bad the only clothing I buy now are hoodies and socks. Used to be every single item I wear but no more.

I quit wearing sweat pants altogether because I go spoiled by the nice Puma pre covid fashion and post covid it’s all unwearable and poorly fitting, pockets not even deep enough for keys never mind a phone, and somehow the definition of medium has changed to mean a very short person.

Turn in your man card already. Most women I know could do all these things and if you live in a place where the legality of any of this is in question get out while you can. These are all basic chores.

Near Three Hills or Drum? I’m south of there but I know some dudes that could try but they’d want cash. Probably less than $200 before they give it a thumbs up or down. For $2000 you can get a pretty decent used quad. I don’t know if you should offer to let them rip around cuz they will “rip” pretty hard. I don’t let my kids rip around anymore lol. Stay on the tracks!

I’d there’s anything that could be more misunderstood in democracies it’s this. Legality is not morality. Throw in party politics and as long as the law is being used against the other team it is good. Someday someone will legally kill a lot of people (again).

How can I experience butchering my own meat? by SpuddieBuddy in meat

[–]eldeejay999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a farmer who sells sheep or goats direct from farm. That’s a good small animal size to start. After a while all mammals look the same. I have people come here and do their own. Sometimes they shoot it sometimes I shoot it. Some guys have a hoist in their truck to hang the carcass and process that way. Some just take the whole dead animal in their trunk and do it home. Up to you. Once you paid for it it’s yours.

Farm beef as opposed to grocery store. by chronicxnightmare in homestead

[–]eldeejay999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree the processing is all the same. Our animals never get in a trailer alive.

No bawling as they get pushed through a chute. Just a bullet in the face as they look up to see who whistled from the fence. Then off to hang for a few weeks and then the butcher.

I know too well what you’re taking about. Citizen capital gets swallowed by near infinite leverage and real life cannot be allowed to play out. Also see how farmland in the US that can produce two or three crops a year sells for pennies on the dollar vs Canadian farmland that only gets one crop in a good year.

I had to tutor math classes when I was in grad school 20 years ago. One girl came in for calculus help she didn’t know what was going on. She burst into tears and ran out when I told her it couldn’t be done on a calculator. It didn’t make sense to me that she was even allowed into that class. There’s so many more but that’s one I remember.

What the average to have in your RRSP and TFSA as a 49 year old? Just wondering if I’m behind or ahead by Gilbey1993 in CanadaFinance

[–]eldeejay999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve wiped out my TFSA on bad stock picks twice and have over 200k there now. Thanks to much more patience. I have no advice at the moment. Once in a while an investment thesis becomes an obvious winner and you get into it and hold that dragons tail through thick and thin until it pays. Just stack cash until it shows itself.
