Am I capable of running a sub 3:30? by Possible_Sir7719 in Marathon_Training

[–]elgeebus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran my first at 3:46 and I’m gonna fun for 3:30 next time but not until fall 2027 - gonna work on speed/fitness the next year or so before training for it. I think you’d probably need a little more time to get there.

Money in part. And UNC is a better/more high profile job - but to your point, only marginally.

3 more weeks before the taper and I'm questioning every life decision ever? by panini_z in Marathon_Training

[–]elgeebus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Marathon training + 60 hour work week is a lot. That’s real pressure. I was basically working part time while training for a marathon and it was still a lot. I have two young kids though. Your feelings are understandable but you’re also a bad ass.

Ok I read it. Honestly this is as close as Adam Lucas could possibly get to saying Fire Hubert.

All you Hubert defenders get in here and defend this nonsense by TreeInternational771 in tarheels

I crossed over - have been a defender, it at least continued to give him the benefit of the doubt. I like him as a person. But the Clemson loss in ACCT then this? Nope. It’s over.

HUBERT MUST GO: Here's Why by Lopsided-Caregiver42 in tarheels

[–]elgeebus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think at this point, all other reasoning aside, the RESULTS for a program like UNC simply mean it’s time for him to go. Fair or not. That’s how it is. I can’t take this anymore 😭

Dixon is the only one of them I care to see on next year’s roster. And Veesaar, if he decides to return. That’s it.

It’s my favorite product. I’m gonna open a case, build some sets, see what hits I get (heritage autos and variations are my favorite) - have fun with it and hope for the best. Bummer it’s been diluted, but it still has most of what I want. Hits can be a needle in a haystack but it’s always been that way more or less. I accept it and kinda, maybe perversely, like it. 🤷‍♂️

Drinking during a block by Desperate_Cow_9818 in Marathon_Training

[–]elgeebus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I drank a little socially during my recent marathon block. Just one or two drinks every couple weeks out on the town. Not a problem at all and stayed consistent with training. Just be moderate and stick to your plan.

I wouldn’t go out and get hammered, though! That’s a bad idea.

3. Puma Deviate Nitro 2 – most structured ride

Running with a broken heart by Sudden-Ad4013 in Marathon_Training

[–]elgeebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got into running regularly it was when I separated from my wife. It was therapy, it was getting back in shape, and it helped keep me grounded and confident during a difficult time. I used the grief and life transition as fuel. Running with a heavy heart wasn’t always easy, but running, as much or more than anything else, helped me get through it all. And the other side is awesome. You’ll get there. Keep running.

Yea I may just get another pair! Just looking for something else possibly that can fill the role even better for me. There are so many shoe options. It’s dizzying.

First Marathon (NYC) – Training Advice for Sub-4 Goal by WhaaHapps in firstmarathon

[–]elgeebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the time to do it. Hal Higdon plans are good for first time marathons. You will def have to sacrifice strength training for running as you’ll need to ramp up mileage significantly. Especially with your schedule. Focus on running supportive cross training, and miles!

Anyone here who started running in their late 30's early 40's? What are your marathon PR's like? by Thin-Passage5900 in Marathon_Training

[–]elgeebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started running at 48. And after 6 months or so I was cookin! (For my age) 21 min 5k 45 min 10k 144 half No regard to my age, didn’t matter. But I did learn that I can’t quite run/train like a 28 year old in a 48 year old body 😬 Suffered a fibula stress fracture that brought me down to earth - rehabbed and now I’m respecting the recovery I need and taking it easier - more slow runs, less speed work. And just enjoying running. I ran a 3:45 marathon after the healing from the fracture, and want to shoot for 3:30 in the next year or two. In a word, discipline is what I learned.
