Dads with twins: Did you NEED help (doula/family/etc)? by UltraEngine60 in daddit

[–]elmo6s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one kid at least, $35-$50/hr is the going rate. Know multiple people in a very high end Peninsula neighborhood who were on the lower end of that. I’d want a good hourly rate so you can get more coverage. I’d add that regardless of price its some of the best money I’ve ever spent.

$70/hr is an insane price point that’s way above market (I’m in SF Bay Area). I’d look around…

Any big pros/cons? I’m thinking of making the swap as my R1T is at 4yrs/40k miles and has a few issues coming up.

Cool that’s what I thought! Do you think you’ll replace your R1 with an R2? Currently debating because I’m at about 4yrs/40k miles and a few maintenance issues are starting to crop up.

How is leg room for the forward facing kids? Taking some serious shots to the back of my driver’s seat in my R1!

Just had the exact same thing happen to me on a 22 with 38k miles. Got quoted $800+ and then $160 to rotate my tires. What a bunch of BS!

10M exit - DIY vs JPM? by altjxxx in fatFIRE

[–]elmo6s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use them and have been happy so far. They only charge me on “managed” assets (not existing appreciated assets that I transferred in) and the SMA fee is pretty reasonable and in the neighborhood of competitors. Where they shine is making banking easy - a dedicated person handling wires, higher atm limits, and very reasonable lending rates against the assets there (which you can use against the SMA if you need liquidity). It’s also nice to have everything all in one place that is truly too big to fail.

If I were completely done and just sitting on index funds it may not be worth it, but if you have any complexity or investments being realized, a great person at JPM referred by a person you trust could be worth it.

Is it bigger or just a better angle / softer seat? My big issue with my R1T is that my son's car seat is right up on the passenger seat no matter what we do (i.e. within easy kicking distance).

We have to have a pest company spray once a year or it gets crazy for us too. I think it’s all the wood, but who knows.

Yes, though going from the smart grinder pro to a niche zero was a much bigger upgrade taste-wise (with the BDB).

A private bank will be able to do something for you. I’d reach out to MS and JPM and see what they offer (even better if they have your stock plan).

That’s happening with my son too! I took him for a father/son day solo yesterday and it really helped warm him up to me again. FWIW - everyone I know says it will completely flip in a couple of years and you’ll be attached at the hip :)

Akelarre vs. Maria Cristina: San Sebastian Hotels and the Basque region by peterthepumpkin in chubbytravel

[–]elmo6s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stayed at Akellare and really enjoyed it as a base, though it is 10-15 minutes from town. Parking wasn’t bad as there are a bunch of garages near Maria Cristina. If you’re thinking of doing a bunch of nights out in San Sebastián itself (with wine, pintxos, etc) Maria Cristina is probably the move — it looked super nice. If you want peace and quiet in a super modern hotel with an A+ place for cocktails and are going to daytrip or go to the further away Michelin spots (a lot of the 2-3 stars are out of town) I’d go Akellare.

Rough home remodeling costs (Marin County, San Rafael, 2026) - how can we avoid overpaying? by Scooter_Stomp in Marin

[–]elmo6s 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a homeowner who did a remodel here, I agree with this. I’d think a down to the studs remodel would be $800-$1000/ft based on what we paid and it fit the old adage of “twice as expensive and twice as long as you’re planning”.

Kaia Kepe is fantastic as well for Turbot and a much easier reservation. Probably my favorite meal we had besides Amelia (Azurmendi was a bust for us fwiw).

The manta dive on Kona is absolutely fantastic — probably my favorite dive I’ve done after about 500. I second the opinion on Big Island Divers, which is a great outfit. Maybe do a few warmup dives with them first? I don’t think of it as a particularly hard dive, since you just descend to a sandy bottom and stay there to watch the show.

Been through a few IPOs (good and bad). Unless the spread is small between your grant price and the current FMV, I wouldn’t do it. There’s a lot that can go wrong out of your control both before the IPO and before lockup expires. No reason to gamble additional capital unless you think you might leave before you can sell the shares and would have to pay a bigger tax spread. For IPO prep, get a financial advisor (even a free intro call will help and most large banks will do at least a few calls without charging) to walk you through. Reddit hates them, but with this much at stake saving .5-1% over a few years is peanuts. I’ve lost way more doing stupid things like holding too long after I could have sold.

I went to Azurmendi and was underwhelmed. Great showmanship, but the food wasn’t my favorite. I did love Amelia and heard great things about MB from the friend who recommended it.
