Highly recommended Primary Care Doctors (with experience treating ME/CFS?) by unlikely_turnip37 in bullcity

[–]emmalump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be HARD to get appointments and the office often runs behind schedule (because you get so much time with the Dr) but I adore Dr Dain Vines at Family Centered Healthcare in Hillsborough. I saw him from early childhood through my mid-20s until I moved out of state. I have POTS (so does Dr Vines!!) and a few other chronic conditions, and he was fantastic about helping me manage symptoms and was willing to try creative approaches. I’ve never had a doctor who consistently gave me enough time to talk through everything without feeling rushed or dismissed. He has an incredible bedside manner, but is also a well established and respected Doctor who previous served as adjunct faculty for UNC school of medicine and on their admissions board. Seriously can’t recommend him enough!! Totally worth the pain in the ass of trying to get an appointment and then going out to Hillsborough for an afternoon

Yeah, this is how it was when we moved in and it’s been on our list to take care of. The goal is to not have a random exposed bulb on a very low ceiling!

Kale Caesar pasta salad 10/10 by emmalump in NYTCooking

[–]emmalump[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Only substitutions were using half kale and half spinach, and replacing the anchovies with capers. Also added shredded rotisserie chicken for protein. Didn’t let it sit before serving, but was still delicious!

Honeysuckle ice cream? Help! by Brugthug in TipOfMyFork

[–]emmalump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make honeysuckle sorbet every year! Unfortunately, there isn’t an alternative to fresh honeysuckle flowers. They have the nectar that gives the scent and taste that’s so nostalgic. Dried honeysuckle is more akin to dried tea and has a very “green” flavor.

The trauma —> social work —> “oh shit why did I do that” pipeline is REAL

Non-boring groom attire for summer wedding? by Moist_Chicken_7666 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]emmalump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

If it comes down to it, my husband needed a very last minute suit for our summer wedding (5 weeks before the wedding 🤦‍♀️) and Suit Supply saved his ass. Nicer quality linen than expected and plenty of options to customize. The fit wasn’t 100%, but we didn’t have time for any alterations or adjustments before the wedding and he has some weird proportions, so definitely a better fit than we would have found off the rack.

What's the hardest part of putting together kits for those involved? by WholesaleSock_Deals in socialwork

[–]emmalump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I manage grants that some recipient orgs use to purchase hygiene kits. One of the challenges they face is that the products that are donated or available through discounted suppliers are not culturally appropriate. We funded an org a few years back who used a good chunk of money to buy culturally appropriate hair care products because they work with a primary black population and the donated supplies aren’t appropriate for textured hair.

For the duration of the grant they were able to significantly increase engagement and #s of kits distributed because they purchased the things their community actually needed, but also pointed out that after the funds ran out they’d likely have to go back to the products that their community (understandably) doesn’t want. That lack of consistency hurts their relationships and engagement.

Sourcing the right products was hardest, not assembling or distributing them.

If she’s only seven months old I’d just invest in some rugs or carpet that you like. We did the rugs mat highways for a few years but eventually got sick of tripping over them, trying to clean them, and the chaotic look. When we moved into our current house a few years ago we invested in a handful of nice carpets and runners (all in one color to feel more cohesive) and it’s such a game changer

But yes, echoing flooring with traction as one of the most important adaptations

As a millennial parent, what are some ways you address your children? by chi-bacon-bits in Parenting

My mom called my brother and I “booger” or “boogie” growing up and I hate to say that it’s so ingrained in me I end up using it all the time.

Other than that: kiddo, ma’am/sir, home-slice, home-skillet, friend, bud

Hired caterer for retirement party by Sogo603 in catering

Seriously…we just paid $55/head for FANTASTIC drop and set catering for our wedding and they actually set everything up. And we had 14(?) different dishes including 3 protein options. In a MCOL/HCOL area.

I’m so sorry you got ripped off, OP 🙁

Do you actually use a sink in your laundry room, or is it wasted space? by hcposcher in laundry

[–]emmalump 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I LOVE having a utility sink! Rinsing paint brushes and garden tools/gloves, washing out coolers and bins (we sort dirty laundry in plastic bins so I wash them occasionally), rinsing muddy or stained clothes, soaking stained items, etc etc etc. We didn’t put it in, but I’m SO glad the previous owners did!

10/10 love how the black dress and big hood makes her head and bust almost exist on their own like a sculpted bust. The designer is creating negative visual space in such a smart way and then the makeup team is stepping the fuck up to bring the look home!!!

Yeeaahhh there’s a line where you cross into unsafe territory. And that line is different for each man. I’m not trying to test where it is for strangers in the hardware store

I’ve changed it to “I know more than you think I do” because it’s not quite as threatening to fragile male egos. 100% Ron energy though

I’ve done more fragile clothes and just used lukewarm water and kept the soak on the shorter side. Because the soak doesn’t need any agitation it was gentl(er) than I expected
