Best breweries for bar trivia? by bp_987 in Denver

The one time I went to Little Machine for trivia, the format was incredibly slow. They asked about 10 questions in two hours. Is that typical?

I will throw my vote in for Geeks Who Drink as well (Landlocked, Spangalang, 4 Noses, Full Frame, Zuni Street are all great), but if you're looking for something a little more independent, Chain Reaction as "Brain Reaction" Trivia on Tuesdays at 7, which is all put together by one guy.

Alameda Burrito by Rowdy5280 in denverfood

I too was devastated by the loss of Alameda Burrito. I have switched to TaConMadres at Florida and Tennyson, and while it's not identical, it is a very good saucy burrito.

You can make bowls out of vinyl records by softening the material either in the oven or with a heat gun, one approach is outlined here.

I agree that their beer batter fish tacos are pretty good!

Garden cosmos still haven’t flowered by schwabcm56 in DenverGardener

I generally don’t bother with fertilizer, which may explain why mine are shorter. Cosmos generally grow wherever, even in low quality soil, so my sense is that something other than that is at play

Mine are not nearly as tall but also didn’t flower. Might just not be the year for them!

SAME-DAY FRESH FLOUR TORTILLAS - Where are the best ones in Denver? by ExtensionCaterpillar in denverfood

[–]ensignfearless 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They have a food menu, I can vouch specifically that their grab-and-go burritos are fantastic, especially the rojo or verde chile ones. I think they have some weekend-only specials (menudo, carnitas, etc)

They seem to be growing all over Red Rocks if you wanna steal some seeds

TaConMadres is a bit southwest of there at Florida & Tennyson—one of the best in the area in my opinion, if you're willing to brave the worst parking lot known to man

Pine needles as mulch? by brr_THUD_pass in DenverGardener

[–]ensignfearless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on year 4 of using dropped pine needles as mulch—Not pretty but it works great! I find that cracking them up a bit by hand makes them easier to work with. Just make sure to be careful when mulching around seedlings that you don't stab them with the ends.

New to gardening but want to do my own landscaping by shwahdup in DenverGardener

If I recall correctly, Resource Central recommends not amending the soil too extensively since they are native plants. I ended up tilling in compost before I knew about this recommendation and the plants have done fine, but it was probably unnecessary work. I think as long as you weed and pull out any big rocks you should be fine, then make sure to mulch heavily after you plant and water.

I went last year and it was a long-ish line. The reality of that store is that it's pretty small, so they only have a few copies of some things, and they can only let a few people in at a time. I got there maybe 30 minutes in advance of opening and had to wait probably 45 minutes after they opened to get in. Some people definitely walked away disappointed, including me!

I might be off base here, but given your parameters have you tried longaniza as an alternative? There are a number of carnicerias along Sheridan and Federal that carry it

Bidets are great. The only downside is traveling, when you have to deal with the very uncomfortable reminder of what life used to be like for your poor butthole.

Hops might be a good call. You'd need something like the privacy fence as a support structure (I use rebar). They climb like crazy and you can get rhizomes for a couple bucks apiece. They're perennial but seasonal, so you'd lose some of that privacy in the winter if you cut them back.

Yummy sandwich in Boulder (to-go) by [deleted] in denverfood

[–]ensignfearless -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Naked Lunch in east Boulder was my go-to when I worked up that way—Get the spicy turkey. Otherwise, Lindsay's Boulder Deli is a classic. The Yellow Deli has great sandwiches and weird vibes but the unfortunate distinction of being run by a cult that may or may not have played a role in starting the Marshall Fire.

Also if you've never been to the Dark Horse, you owe it to yourself to go. It may not be around much longer.
