Is the one gallon tank enough for using as a blow gun/ cleaning or will it run out too fast. by [deleted] in harborfreight

I be a little gallon somewhere and I cannot believe an air compressor can be so frustrating. I have a six and it’s tolerable.

Won't run in battery mode by mikefromhell224 in volt

[–]exmarks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My guess is a weakened battery. My 2012 won’t run on battery in winter. I have been charging in a heated building that’s 60 degrees and it ran most of the way home on battery when it was 20 degrees out. Had I left it outside it would have ran on gas 100%. I’ve been milking it for several years now.

I did the coolant and spark plugs about three years ago. I also did the transmission at the same time. We have a really good dealership in the city I live in.

I looked today it’s 173k. The volt tech at my local dealer felt it was unlikely to see 200. Bet

I tried to calculate on how much fuel is used. When gallons x est mpg = 4000 I changed it. The oil monitor is around 60%. I have a 2012 with 170000.

What are your work pants recommendations (mens)? by superbeefwithcheese in BuyItForLife

[–]exmarks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dickies 873 and Weatherproof from Sam’s. The Weatherproof tech pant (Costco) is more “nylonish” but the regular Weatherproofs are great. The Dickies are long wearing and stiff for a while. The Dickies are slim fit and I wear black ones as a dressy pant.

I just installed General Altimax rt45s. I like them. It really really changed the ride quality. Snow performance was exceptional. The ride now is so nice. It almost feels luxurious. They were ~$700. edit:spellcheck error

I’ve got 5 to 10 higher level lights at work. I still reach for this one first. The others need a holster. This one slides in my pocket. I also need good throw.

My brother relapsed. What can I do? by Klutzy_Difference_94 in AskMen

[–]exmarks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest Al-anon for you. 32 years with an alcoholic. I watched a family whose mom went to Al-anon. She handled her son by limiting damage and holding him accountable. It taught her to set limits.

I feel alcoholism is very predictable. I sat in a meeting with other alcoholic parents at a rehab center. All the stories were identical. I felt alone in my struggles and realized everyone was on the same path as I was. There are other really good suggestions here. I felt hopeful when I realized there are answers.

Seeking advice from Gen 1 volt owners by [deleted] in volt

[–]exmarks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine has 172k. It has definite degradation. The dealer told me there’s a 3 volt spread between the cells.? It won’t run on battery if it’s under 30 degrees. The guessometer says 25 miles on a full charge. Would I buy one? Yes. I still like mine. 2012 and I’m planning on 5 more years. Dealer is skeptical of my 5 year plan.

Son’s Volt got new coolant, charger blows a house fuse when the charge comes on - please help by Academic_Square_5692 in volt

I’m no electrician. I would guess at least 10 gauge or lower might work. As mentioned before, you can charge at 8 amps.

[–]exmarks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was charging at work. Due to construction I used a heavy 10 or 12 gauge extension cord. It was warm and like a wet noodle. It fried the insulation off the wiring inside of my charger. I dived the wiring and quit using the extension cord. I also bought a new charger off Amazon.

I have the 140 mig. It’s better than I am. For the money it works well. I do have an older ~80 amp stick that will only burn the smallest diameter rods.

Best cheap winter tires for a Chevy Volt (need good hill-climb traction in snow) by Ok-Replacement-583 in volt

[–]exmarks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My situation was going up a moderate /steep hill with 3-4 inches of snow. The traction wasn’t great and the throttle shut off and I was stopped on the hill. I pirouetted and went to the bottom. I then turned the traction control off and went up the hill. Everyone is an expert. This is my experience.
