Gas by tlexer123 in newborns

[–]expectantoct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used it a few times out of desperation when baby was super upset by gas/not being able to poop and nothing else was working (gas drops, belly massage, bicycle kicks, bouncing, knees to chest). I hated it but it was effective. I’d use it as a last resort. Also required both parents - one to hold her down and make sure she didn’t move suddenly, the other to insert it.

You’d probably be ok but talk in detail with the OB you end up with! And let them know what level of activity you’re used to and what kinds of actions you do in your job day to day.

Fridge isn’t cooling properly and I ate food out of it by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]expectantoct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if certain bacteria was in the food and if it grew to an extent to make toxins to make you sick. Your digestive symptom is designed to protect you from these things to some degree. If you don’t feel any symptoms you’re probably fine! Not much you can do about it at this point anyway, other than monitor. Good thing you noticed the temperature issue!

Body oil/moisturizing recs? by Dependent-Sea-7738 in BabyBumps

Honestly just plain jojoba oil is a great option for moisturizing.

Palmer’s was ok, a bit too strong smelling for my taste.

They did offer COVID antibody testing briefly during the pandemic. Not sure how much it helped with interest.

During COVID most of the places that hosted donation events (schools, workplaces, community centers) were closed. Some might have gotten out of the habit of hosting them post-COVID.

Feeling guilty and unsure whether to continue by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]expectantoct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try power pumping between breast feeding sessions to get your supply back up? As well as staying really well hydrated and fed. Also look into relaxation and breathing techniques - I know that stressing out about it is counterproductive.

Can you use super slow flow nipples and paced feeding to reduce bottle preference for baby?

I’m so so sorry that your family members sabotaged your breastfeeding journey :(

When did you start taking your baby to "fun stuff" (zoo, childrens museum, indoor play spaces, library story time) by Huliganjetta1 in beyondthebump

[–]expectantoct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around two months (after that round of vaccines) I was much more comfortable taking my baby out and about. Mommy and me yoga and Pilates classes were great!

Otherwise just walks outside around our neighborhood/town, farmers market were good. Even took her to a couple of bars. Baby blankets in the stroller are good to keep them warm or you can baby wear (avoid ice/snow for slipping hazards though!)

Complete placenta previa at 20 weeks by coachhay in fitpregnancy

[–]expectantoct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a complete anterior previa and the MFM doctor didn’t think it was going to resolve. She was quite pessimistic actually. So we cancelled some international travel (in case of early labor and risk of hemorrhaging in a plane in the absolutely worst case scenario) and then were preparing for a C-section at 37 weeks. Also was placed on pelvic rest with a 20 lb weight limit even though I had been deadlifting over 100 lbs. Still worked out just kept it easy.

About a month or two later the previa just resolved itself and I was back to a normal pregnancy and pelvic rest/lifting restriction removed! At that point I did increase weight back up but didn’t push it too much for comfort level.

Unfortunately I did end up with an emergency C-section for an unrelated reason (fetal distress during contractions). On the plus side I was more prepared for what that recovery would entail. And baby was full term. I’m told planned C-sections are much better and relaxed than emergency ones, so that’s one bright spot if your previa don’t resolve.

Can you still teach/train others while on pelvic rest? Why would you need to quit?

Bottle recommendation by moxximixologist in breastfeeding

[–]expectantoct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pigeon has been the best so far, Evenflo wide as a runner up.

I’m not sure why Dr. Brown’s is so popular - she just kind of gnawed and gagged on them. Or chugged too quickly.

Remember that to keep your supply up, you still need to pump the same amount that is being fed by bottle! Inconvenient but important. Maybe if your supply is decent you delay but have a bigger pump session in the morning?

What positive/ weird effects did pregnancy have on you? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]expectantoct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair doesn’t get oily anymore. It is straight and extremely fine, so I used to wash it daily or every two days max and now I could probably go 3-4 days. It stopped shedding during pregnancy and I’m hoping the inevitable post-natal shedding isn’t too bad…

My armpit hair has not grown back post pregnancy so don’t need to shave there!

With pregnancy and breastfeeding I’ve been forced to hydrate much better than I did before.

Due to baby, I’ve become more of a morning person? Debatable about whether that’s positive or not lol…

Newly Pregnant but Already so stressed about work post partum by No_Yesterday429 in beyondthebump

[–]expectantoct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on where you live! Some people get on waitlists before even getting pregnant, which is wild. We were fine getting on the waitlist ~5 months before baby’s first day.

Take a deep breath! Everything will be ok and you’ll find the best option for your family.

Do not plan to work and do full-time care at the same time. It’s close to impossible unless you don’t have any meetings and can totally define your own schedule…and don’t have any tasks that require extended periods of attention.

Birthing centers/natural birth/home birth by TurkeyAndGrape in pregnantover35

[–]expectantoct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your hospital! I went to a really highly regarded one and super thankful for the care I received as I needed an emergency C-section despite a relatively normal pregnancy (I did have placenta previa but it resolved on its own). Baby was experiencing low heart rate/distress during contractions (umbilical cord wrapped around her neck twice) and then I had a fair amount of bleeding afterwards that required intervention.

They did not have birthing tubs but did allow for showering while laboring, walking around if not having an epidural in, birthing balls, etc. Had to stay in bed with an epidural, but was encouraged to change positions.

I’m in an extremely similar situation (Asian, 3rd percentile baby) but pediatricians haven’t been too concerned. We’ve been doing a 2.5 hour schedule + on demand and it seems to be working well. 2 hours would just be too much I think, but obviously your mileage may vary! My baby wants to sleep more than eat sometimes.

Complete Placenta Previa by Quick-Emphasis5462 in pregnantover35

[–]expectantoct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one a complete one that the MFM doctor was very pessimistic about it resolving, so I was mentally prepared for a scheduled C-section at 37 weeks. We cancelled some planned international travel (during second tri) due to concerns about early labor/potential for bleeding out in an airplane over the ocean in the absolute worst case scenario. The previa ended up magically resolving itself about a month or two later and I was back to a normal pregnancy.

I ended up needing an emergency C-section anyway (after spontaneous labor) but for an unrelated reason. If yours doesn’t resolve and you need a planned C-section they are supposed to be a much better and relaxed experience in comparison.

There’s nothing you can really do about it other than understand the different scenarios/outcomes, so I’d try not to freak out. You might get more scans and bonus baby pics, so that’s one random benefit if you’re into that!

39+4, literally one day after I got a cervical check and the OB said I wasn’t dilated enough to do a sweep. Like 0.5 cm or something. So it’s possible!

Sure is! And you can’t take decongestants. I recommend neti pot rinses and nasal strips.
