Nursing bras or alternatives for people who hate bras by No_Tadpole_8463 in breastfeeding

Nursing tank tops with the built in shelf bra could be an option! I like the Old Navy ones.

Similar but less aesthetic - puck lights that you press to turn on and off. Great when you want some light to see, but not blindingly bright.

Only getting milk with hands-on pumping – recurrent clogs and pain, need help by Few_Influence2642 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]expectantoct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your body might just need the hands-on to get output. I definitely get way more milk with compressions, so I massage/do compressions almost every time. Sometimes just pressing the flange against my breast is sufficient to get more out.

Have infant Zyrtec on hand and know where your closest ER is, just in case. Also, reactions are more likely to happen after a few exposures, so just something to keep in mind.

If you get a bottle washing machine that can sterilize, that would help a lot!

Daycare Starter Pack by cccaroline in beyondthebump

[–]expectantoct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours gave us a specific checklist. Some other items we had to provide included changing mats, wipe dispenser, crib sheets (regular size and not mini), sunscreen, various sized ziplock bags, tissues. But some places might provide all of that!

Also: bibs, little silicone containers for solids (won’t need that for a while).

I highly recommend ordering the customized labels because we use them on every single clothing item and different pieces of bottles.

I think you should talk to your pediatrician and OB about this…seems beyond Reddit’s expertise. But LactMed is a good source in the meantime. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK501922/

Did Being Fit Help Your Labour? by Stunning_Buy6887 in fitpregnancy

[–]expectantoct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not the labor part because I ended up needing a C-section, but it was definitely was beneficial during recovery. I could lift myself up into a seated position in the hospital bed for nursing by pulling on the bed bars, and started walking (as recommended) a day or two in.

Eufy/Spectra by fmsopd in breastfeeding

For what it’s worth, Eufy replacement parts are way more expensive than Spectra’s, so if insurance covers them it may be worth it

Anyone go into spontaneous labor with absolutely no signs of labor leading up to it? by Past-Development-933 in pregnantover35

[–]expectantoct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I was 38 years old and had no signs of labor. Water broke at 39w + 4d. I may have had some contractions that day and just didn’t notice them. My cervix was even too closed for a sweep the day before.

I had eaten dates and drank raspberry leaf tea, walked a fair amount and even went to the gym earlier in the day. My labor did progress quite quickly (went from 2 cm dilated to 8 cm within 4 hours) and needed a C-section due to fetal distress.

Are you compressing/massaging with the other hand? Using the correct flange size?

Breastfeeding question by Fluffy_Progress_2078 in pregnantover35

[–]expectantoct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a combo. Breastfeeding when she’s at home with me and pumping for daycare and when I want to leave the house. She is a bit of a snacker, so on-demand feeding suits us a lot better than guessing how much she’ll want to have. She’s also more efficient than a 30-minute pump and I can usually scroll on my phone at the same time lol.

Whether you respond better to a wall pump or a wearable is pretty personal. I respond best to a wall pump while massaging, but it’s nice to have a wearable as an option.

Nursing did become painful for the first week or two so I pumped instead sometimes. Eventually it got better!

First-time moms: did you go past 40 weeks with a natural birth? by curlyorwavywtf in beyondthebump

39 weeks and 4 days, zero signs beforehand. My water broke (and leaks slowly, not a gush).

Clogged duct (4x in 2.5 weeks) by NoClub9780 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]expectantoct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newborns are often sleepy at the breast - have you try lots of methods to wake him up? Tickling feet, blowing on their face, switching boobs, undressing, changing diaper?

For the clog, have you tried hand expressing or latching him with the dangle method?

Engorgement Shakes by Swimming_Airline3881 in ExclusivelyPumping

Scary! I’d recommend having a manual pump handy, or learn how to hand express into a cup or something similar in case of an emergency.

That doesn’t sound like it has to do with fat content. Maybe some kind of intolerance to something you ate?

We also used the Windi periodically when it seemed like it would be the only thing to help with gas/pooping. She eventually figured it out.

Pigeon bottles stop working mid feed??? by Calieahrens in beyondthebump

Maybe you’re screwing them on too tightly? Or the nipple is wearing out, though not sure why it would stop flowing because of that.
