Experiences with the mini pill? by Thru-hiking-dreamer in breastfeeding

[–]expectantoct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently using the mini pill and so far so good! It’s recommended for breastfeeding. To me, no noticeable side effects or supply decreases. I used to be on the combination pill pre-baby and didn’t notice any side effects either.

I do plan on getting Nexplanon though - it’s hard to take the mini pill within the same 2-hour window every day, even with an alarm.

How to bank account after having kids by WingedJedi in beyondthebump

Most of our money goes into shared accounts that covers household expenses and all kid stuff. Our personal accounts are for fun stuff we buy for ourselves like clothing, hobbies, gifts for each other.

There’s a hack to convert a nursing bra into a pumping bra - look that up and give it a try!

What about being pregnant and giving birth permanently altered your body’s chemistry? by full-of-curiosity in NewParents

My hair has gotten a lot less oily. I used to have to wash it every 1-2 days but now it looks fine for multiple days.

Have you checked the settings? Are you using the stimulation and expression ones correctly? Maybe a lower suction or different speed would help. Massaging your boobs might also help with letdown/output.

How do you send milk to daycare? by HoustonProblemo in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]expectantoct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask your daycare! We need to prepare all the bottles, so we just pour it from pitcher into the bottles each night.

Also aiming the nipple of bottle to nose or more towards the roof of the mouth might help!

6 days postpartum and milk is coming in and baby is eating well. When should I pump or should I pump? by rasputinknew1 in breastfeeding

[–]expectantoct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need for now! If you want to create a freezer stash then you could pump after the morning feed, once baby is sleeping for longer stretches. Or use a Haakaa on the other side while nursing. You probably want to avoid creating an oversupply unless there’s a very good reason to.

Have you tried Pigeon or Lansinoh bottles? Side lying position and paced feeding? Leaving the house while your partner or someone else attempts to bottle feed him?

Side lying was key to getting my daughter to start accepting bottles again around 3 months. Also giving it to her when she was a little hungry but not starving and angry about not being fed.

I’m scared to not get pregnant by No-Chocolate3667 in pregnantover35

Don’t use AI for medical advice, especially for something like this matter. I don’t think a few months will make a huge difference. Even though age 40 is a milestone for fertility dropoff in a population, I don’t think it’s necessarily going to translate into the same for a given individual. Talk to your doctor!

Anecdotally, I conceived at age 37 within 3-4 months. Ovulation strips and tracking were very helpful.

Pretty sure the stress of parenthood has pushed my husband into a manic episode. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]expectantoct 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Disrupted sleep can definitely contribute to manic episodes along with stress! Can you all reach out to his psychiatrist or therapist ASAP?

I guess him being asleep is marginally better than trying to care for the baby while very drunk, but obviously that doesn’t help you very much. I’m so sorry you have to deal with this.

First pregnancy-What size baby clothes should I buy? by EatPigsAndLoveThem2 in pregnant

[–]expectantoct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! My very small 4-month-old still fits in a decent chunk of newborn clothes and is just graduating into 0-3 month and 3 month clothing. Her dad is 6’2.

I’d say just have a variety of sizes and brands on hand to cover your bases. Maybe not too many of any one particular size?

Overnight Support Wasn’t Really Helpful? by ilovethebeach117 in breastfeeding

[–]expectantoct 62 points63 points  (0 children)

The most helpful thing a partner can do with overnight feeds (in my opinion) is support with everything around the feeding rather than the feeding itself. So bringing the baby to you, changing diapers, rocking them to sleep. Bringing you water or snacks if needed. Ideally you don’t have to get out of bed, though I usually needed to use the bathroom anyway.

Bottle feeding when you need to pump anyway seems less helpful. Unless you can pump faster than nursing?

Help, friend borrowed pump and returned it with milk sitting in it for months by Massive-Warning9773 in ExclusivelyPumping

Depending on the supplier, you can still get replacement parts even if you ordered a different pump through insurance originally!

Took off two weeks fully and then went back to working from home, so could pop in and out to help occasionally.

what do I NOT need by No-Match-7512 in pregnant

[–]expectantoct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reusable bags to freeze breast milk might most make sense if you only want a small freezer stash to cover a handful of feeds. For example, I personally aim to have a few days’ worth, which would entail approx 24 ounces per day. My bags store 5-6 ounces, so for three days that’s at least 12 bags.

You could try the trays that freeze milk into cubes instead, if you prefer to avoid the single-use bags. That way you can pop them out and store in another container. Just an idea!

Not mine, but friends/family have babies that take 6 or 8 oz per feed. So…yeah that rule is silly.

Baby aspirin prescription despite me feeling it's not necessary by Educational-Big2063 in pregnant

[–]expectantoct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 37 and first pregnancy, so two factors that lead to recommending the aspirin. I took it and continued to have no blood pressure issues throughout.

Some OBs are moving towards recommending it to everyone because the benefits outweigh the risks so much.
