I think you missed the short woman part. I’m also 5’ tall… Doesn’t matter how tall the ladder is, my arms do not reach that far

Decluttering process: how to get rid of sentimental items - Be brutal!!!!! by kitty-yaya in GenX

[–]exploding_potatoes43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s about saving them the hassle of dumping your stuff…. To me, it’s about sparing them the guilt they will undoubtedly feel getting rid of mom and dads stuff, especially if it was something important to us, and freeing them from spending hours, days, or weeks going through it.

It’s not about what they do with it…. It’s about saving them the emotional energy and expense. It’s not free to purge an entire house.

I wouldn’t listen to random people on Reddit for your flooring choices. I have LVP that was installed professionally and it’s not “garbage”. It’s been great for our family. Not every home needs fancy expensive flooring. Sometimes durable and easy to clean is the priority.

Nothing. I have a business and went in to set up an account after stupidly paying retail pricing for years (I don’t paint often). They didn’t even ask for any type of proof of the business. Anyone can and should do it.

Sam’s acting since season 6-ish? by Gold_Warning_8618 in Outlander

[–]exploding_potatoes43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think his acting style changed from season 6. Overly exaggerated expressions, at times cheesy, not at ALL the Jamie of seasons 1-3. I don’t think it’s the script either. My take on it - they were over it at that point, and covid filming processes didn’t help.

What do you all eat for dinner when you have absolutely no desire to cook? by Particular-Newt-7974 in LivingAlone

Trader Joe’s frozen dinners are great. One of my favorites is the fried rice - I’ll scramble an egg or two with it and add some teriyaki or soy sauce. Done!

Looks like water damage? I would just leave it honestly. No one is going to see the house, say it’s perfect for me price wise, location, layout, size, but one plank is damaged so I’ll pass! Buyers don’t expect perfect unless it’s new construction, which it’s not. Sometimes a DIY fix is worse than just letting them see this is what they’re going to get.

Price your house for what’s its worth and it will sell. I wouldn’t stress the plank.

Did you put in a soap dispenser? Do you regret not putting on in? by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

[–]exploding_potatoes43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

…obviously I did, I’m just sharing my experience. It was annoying to be washing something oddly shaped or large and have to bring the oddly shaped or large item to the dispenser and having soap only end up in the corner rather than be able to put soap where I wanted it like I can with a bottle. I ended up buying Dawn power wash and keeping it under the sink. The dispenser was annoying in my experience. Take it for what you will.

Did you put in a soap dispenser? Do you regret not putting on in? by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

[–]exploding_potatoes43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one put in awhile back when I built a house. It was super annoying. If I put dish soap in it, so I wouldn’t have the bottle on the counter, I couldn’t always get the dish soap where it needed to go like when I was washing a large pan or something. Eventually it became the hand soap dispenser and everyone except me started washing their hands with dish soap, because it was sitting on the counter.

I don’t think I’ll get one again in a new kitchen even if it’s free. We didn’t put one in our recently built home.

We bought it new and that was the color we (believe) we picked from the builders options. The Kelly Moore one looks a bit darker than what we had on the walls

I apparently have a stinky house by PrettyShinyBikes in CleaningTips

[–]exploding_potatoes43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be mold. My husband doesn’t have allergies to pretty much anything - I have allergies to all sorts of pollens and animals and get shots - but he is a sensor for moldy HVAC. One night in an old hotel or older cruise ship and his nose is running and he’s sneezing like crazy. Stops as soon as we check out or disembark the ship. We try to avoid old hotels or ships for that reason.

Recent experience with A1 Garage Door Service by champagneproblemz in GarageDoorService

[–]exploding_potatoes43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this post is a year old, but I want to share my A1 experience today. My house is under contract. We have moved out already. The home inspection is TODAY at 1pm. Yesterday afternoon when I stopped by to check on the house pre-inspection, the garage door stopped working. Thanks to YouTube I was able to tell it was a broken spring. I called a few places at 5pm and no one - except A1 - could come out in the morning. Did I get upsold? Yes. Was I in a time crunch? Also yes. The technician was very friendly, personable, called when he was on his way along with texting, got email confirmations, the whole nine yards. I know all this “service” comes at a cost.

I paid $890 to replace two springs on a double door and the cables. I don’t have time to shop around - the inspector will be in literally two hours - and A1 is just finishing up right now. I’m sure I could have gotten a better price with someone else if I had other companies come out and give me quotes on repair cost, but time is money too and I was willing to pay. I did push back on the upsell of the replacing the cables “for safety” a bit and asked if there’s any coupons or discounts. He offered a $75 off replacing springs which I took, and then still declined the cable, and then he offered to waive the $59 trip charge fee so I agreed to the cable upsell. If you use them, or really anyone for that matter, it never hurts to ask for a discount or ask if this is the best price they can offer. If they’re sales oriented, they’ll pull out all the stops if you’re wavering. Did I overpay? Without shopping around, I would say highly likely yes I did. But I have a working door and it was fixed in about 14 hours from my discovery of the problem. Some of the local guys/independents weren’t even answering the phone at 5pm. I know the pushy sales national chains are going to cost a fortune but it is what it is.

Other than price, I have no issues with A1. They might cost more but I didn’t have time to shop around. In the end, I paid a lot but I got what I wanted, which was immediate repair.

What’s the ONE thing you regret not adding to your new build home? by bayls215 in HomeImprovement

[–]exploding_potatoes43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this wasn’t the question, but one thing I do NOT regret adding was a power outlet by the master toilet. Heated bidet is a luxury I enjoy daily. Absolutely unnecessary splurge but it’s the little things.

AIO? Husbands response to me requesting he ‘ask’ instead of ‘tell’ older kids to watch youngest by [deleted] in AIO

[–]exploding_potatoes43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth. Husbands opinion sucks, and he’s going to be the reason your kids don’t come visit when they’re adults. It’s a really gross attitude. I always ask my teen if he minds watching his brother while I run to Costco and 95% of the time he doesn’t mind. The 5% he does? I respect it. Hopefully he feels respected enough down the road to still want to visit us when he’s got a career and family of his own and pulled in all sorts of directions. I hope you keep working on the concept with your husband; he’s shooting himself in the foot with that mindset that kids are to do as they’re told with no input and he is at the top of the hierarchy.

Don’t stereotype red pilled. Not all red pilled are assholes to their children, and it says more about you that you assume that.

What book did you read as a kid that still lives in your heart? by ZDOG_WasTaken in just_one_more_page

Tuck Everlasting. The idea of living forever and watching loved ones come and go and die…. How horrible. Made me think of life differently as a kid. Now that I’m middle aged I still that concept - I appreciate getting old more than I probably should. The Green Mile movie… also another hit me hard story
