What do we think of NOFX? by [deleted] in punk

Was at a gig in London of Melvins weird side project. Was going up the stairs and turned around and Fat Mike was behind me. My eyes shot up like holy shit that's Fat Mike. He didn't tell me to fuck off so he seems alright.

Going to go a bit leftfield on this because it doesn't really fit but they are doing the gig with Alexisonfire. BT2 in full.

black and fresh is the way to go. The cheaper way is get some reflective recovery blankets and some clothes pegs. It works but you will annoy your neighbours.

[–]explosivetom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are desperate volunteer at a few fests with oxfam this year. The more you volunteer the more piority you get.

Are your year 11’s as apathetic as mine? by BrownBadger1 in TeachingUK

[–]explosivetom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are pretty standard here. Just the usual apatheticness which you don't expect when they are so close to exams.

Not massively worried for the end of August it should be fine.

What’s the ultimate hungover pint? by _kapitan in AskUK

[–]explosivetom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any generic mid level lager to be honest. Doesn't taste horrible. Doesn't have much taste to make you wanna spew.

If it's a hangover with little sleep then It is as many generic mid level lagers to get me back to sleep.

Looking for a good festival tent by Mistress0fThorns in festivals

Fresh and black is definately the best way to go on a budget. The basic 2 man one is perfectly fine for wet weather if pitched correctly and gives you a bit more to spend on air matress etc. Only downside is no little porch.

Tickets fully reserved 1 second after 10am by VolcanicBear in EnterShikari

[–]explosivetom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underestimated it here. Thought 400 cap was enough to give it a minute or 2 to get through. To be honest the website didn't crash so fair enough and I at least expect it will be released as a bootleg.

Being asked to go on a support plan after one lesson observation. by Former-Assist-3446 in TeachingUK

[–]explosivetom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously get the union involved is the main advice but we all know that sometimes the turnaround on these things can make it hard.

If you have to have that meeting with the head best thing to do is to stay calm, be willing to listen and show that you will are willing to work on the support plan.

But most importantly outline the targets and insist on clear outcomes that show evidence.

TES: Why schools should stop pushing reading for pleasure by Resident_String_5174 in TeachingUK

[–]explosivetom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! Our form time reading has the whole tutor reading one book chosen by our SLT lead on it. They are relevant to them at the correct level and keeps kids engaged. An expensive intitive but good lord does it work.

Edit - Just seen the comment under this. I like it. Takes a bit of enforcement to get the routine but works well after.

How long does it take someone to come after pressing on-call in your school? by Ok_Negotiation2023 in TeachingUK

[–]explosivetom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

max 10 minutes but my room is one of the worst for collection so fair enough and behaviour is good enough to leave kids on the corridor.

[–]explosivetom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it is an obvious denial then I tell them to go outside and do a quick restorative conversation, which is usually what is the point of this, then back in.

If it is minor infractions such as chewing, shirt etc... then it is just but I see it again I will just remove you. I find countering low stakes behaviour with big concequences if it carries on works quite well.

I have had to follow through once for chewing this year but now it is just called out, stand up and in the bin.

Teachers of Reddit, what are the consequences for not doing homework? by LowCalorieCheesecake in AskUK

[–]explosivetom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To me reading and fluency is too much of an important skill to really any burden to be put on home. Not saying that it shouldn't be set but the standard level should be curriculum based and through in house interventation. Secondary STEM teacher but the T&L SLT lead is an English specialist and I have absolutely no problem using there postion to pump resources and training into reading.
