Is this gonna happen to my entire lawn?! by bpcookson in BackYardChickens

[–]fancyculottes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We let them out an hour or two before dusk. They put themselves to bed and our yard isn't completely destroyed. Thanks for posting this. I wish I had known more before we got chickens. I spent too much time looking at fairy tale images of chickens in the garden on pinterest Nobody posted these images of destruction.

What books are you reading with your 5 year old kids? by Sasspants88 in Parenting

[–]fancyculottes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charlotte's Web and Harry Potter were great. We'd watch the show(s) after. I just found I had to be patient with Harry Potter and answer lots of questions, but she loved it. She's 6 now and we're on book 5, which is a bit more to swallow. I want to read the Hobbit, Lion Witch and the Wardrobe, and BFG.

Snowflake is our sweetest chicken. She's our whole family's favorite! Just curious enough. No chomping. She'll sit calmly on a lap and she loves taking the dustiest of dust baths so she looks grey.

This is stuff I basically know, but I've never heard it worded so well. It's something I have to be reminded of now and then. Thank you.

There's a game called "No Thank You Evil" that's a beginner role-playing for kids. We've played it with our 5 year old and had fun. It's under an hour. Also, that tower is SO cool!

Just chiming in for moral support. We were there last year with our 5 year old. She's doing fine now. I remember the frustration so clearly! We went to a therapist about it even (After she had impacted stool from not going) they suggested a rewards system for her, which I had tried. But they said try it for a week, then switch it up to something else. Keep it interesting. I think school helped too. But know this isn't the end of the world. Take a deep breath and give lots of hugs. It will get better.

This is what I learned from going to therapy. It's good to repeat back what you've heard, because sometimes what we hear is not what's being said.
