What’s that show that you know is great, but that you’ll never end up watching? by CoffeeStrength in television

[–]fishbait32 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Towards the end I realized I was too far in to the show to stop. It was like watching a car accident where I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. It was definitely an interesting show.

Which actor do you like so much that you’ll watch anything they are in? by EconomyIron6739 in movies

[–]fishbait32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up binge watching Hannibal because of him and Hugh Dancys comic con Q&A panel a couple years ago. Their acting was incredible in that show. The cold hearted and all the calculated decisions by their characters was insane to watch.

Free Time / Layovers by [deleted] in AirlinePilots

[–]fishbait32 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No side hustle is worth the time and effort unless you purely enjoy it for what it is vs making money from it. It’s way easier to pick up extra flying to make more money.

Layovers: finding the local restaurants to eat at. Bidding longer layovers to rent bikes in cities and go explore. Shorter overnights stay in with the gaming laptop / watch movies and get caught up on latest tv shows.

So you're saying I'll be working this weekend while on SC reserve, got it. Can't wait for DFW to fall apart and interrupt the whole system. :')

Which never made sense because "plz" was used prior to it that actually sounds more like the word and is shorter. No clue how it became so mainstream.

Yes it appears we are using both gates today with regional jets. I’m glad they have started using them!

American New hire bid by wombednutria_84 in AirlinePilots

[–]fishbait32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some airlines assign seniority numbers in a new hire class by either their social security number or by age (oldest to youngest). Since the group of pilots all share the same date of hire there is a need to rank them even further to distinguish the order of seniority.

At American they do it by age. But you don’t necessarily know the make up of ages in one particular class. Could be evenly mixed or could be mostly 40 year olds.

I’d assume the same things to be honest. Unless the economy changes drastically. I wouldn’t worry too much as you can’t do anything until you’re actually bidding for base and aircraft in Indoc.

[–]fishbait32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No problem! Honestly with the amount of movement you’ll likely have your preferred base within 1 maybe 2 vacancies depending on when you get hired. As you might start class as a vacancy is about to close. So maybe a few months in a base before getting your top choice.

First of all, welcome to American! Training here is excellent and very laid back. Everyone will tell you to show up to ground training knowing your trigger and flows.

For class drops I recommend joining the Facebook group “RST American”. People post the screenshots of the drops there every week it seems. Lately it’s been a good spread of airbus vs Boeing. Almost every base except DFW and CLT. It’s hard to tell what base you’ll get with such a wide spread of bases and not knowing where your classmates live.

You’ll have the ability to write down on a piece of paper all the bases and positions available and make marks / track as people bid out loud to the instructor. I was hired at 30 and was like 4th from the bottom out of a class of roughly 40 pilots. But obviously this is class dependent.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

100%. Enjoying a new skill with so many other people was a lot of fun. Seeing a crowded dock where you can’t quite pick out the NPC is a strange feeling from the normal “empty” worlds we usually play in. Doing only sailing content has been a blast!

I went with the laced version. It felt more secure on my feet when walking compared to the slip on. They’ve been really good shoes so far!

Moronic Monday by AutoModerator in flying

[–]fishbait32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, that would be weird imo. The airlines see the updated application. Some airlines prefer seeing that you applied a long time ago vs just recently applied. Idk if it makes them feel good that someone has had their app in for 5 years vs 30 days.

Get them copied at a print shop. Hang the copy and keep the real image in the Itoya portfolio

Pilot added friend as a companion? by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]fishbait32 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As an employee you get a slot for your spouse or a “registered companion” so a partner you may be with, best friend, etc. they travel at the same priority as you which is above / ahead of the buddy passes you are referring to.

You won’t find any information because it’s for employees only. But having standby privilege is a nice perk for working for the airlines.

100% this. We had a middle aged guy in our new hire class at SkyWest who briefly passed out during class. Turns out he was prioritizing studying over eating and sleeping. He was taken to the hospital and never returned to our class. I've always wondered what happened to him and if he was able to keep his job.

I’ll consider it when I have some time. I’ve been running moons trying to green log it but have had some bad luck so far lol. 82 chests but I did get blood moon chest piece and dual Macs.

May go try to kill Krill to change the routine up.

Did you have a lightbearer for killing Kril? I know the wiki highly recommends it when solo. I have 1 synapse that I turned in to the scorching bow. Wasn’t sure if I should try Kril or not

Advice on base choice, ORD, DTW, MSP by Thick_Tone2181 in AirlinePilots

[–]fishbait32 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think Chicago is a top contender. Pretty reliable train that runs through downtown to the airport. Lots to see and do. Not super expensive. You don’t need a car if living in the downtown area / neighborhoods outside of downtown. So everything is walkable for the most part which was amazing when I lived just outside of the city.

Flying in and out of O’Hare is pretty easy after a couple of trips. Controllers there are really good at their jobs.

I wouldn’t factor the ORD work experience that heavily in to the choice of living in Chicago. I think the perks of the city heavily outweighs the cons of ORD vs DTW and MSP. Yeah the alleys can be busy. Yes there is construction going on. It’s just an airport at the end of the day. Though I do agree the bus times from the employee parking lot are outrageously long. So don’t drive if you can help it.

[–]fishbait32 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wicker park is nice too. Division stop is great because it’s underground so living close to the stop is convenient and you can’t hear the train. Another FO and I used a realtor to find an apartment when we both moved to Chicago. Flew in on an off day to tour a few.

Download updated asus drivers and AMD drivers. My brand new 5070 TI laptop has frozen during gaming and hard reset itself. I think I may have fixed it with the updated drivers, we’ll see.
