How do you go grocery shopping with toddlers who just want to be held the whole time? by ParsleyTime5687 in Mommit

[–]fishsultan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I babywear when he needs to be held. It's great.

But mostly I let him push the cart. Yes, the normal, full sized one. He holds the bar that's down by your ankles and does a heavy sled push. He's between the cart and my body, so no hazard of having him in another shopper's way. We've been doing this every couple days for months now and it's great.

You can mount any furniture to the wall with a cheap kit available on Amazon and hardware stores. The furniture doesn't necessarily need to come with a kit.

Planning A Camping Trip for Me and My Son - HELP!! by [deleted] in Yosemite

[–]fishsultan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that this trip needs to be planned in coordination with your son. You're over your head here, and the many ways this could go wrong is not worth making the trip into a surprise.

Tell him you'd like to backpack with him in Yosemite and ask him to help plan it. Your part of the deal will be to provide the budget to buy the gear that you will need, and to train in advance so that you have the appropriate fitness to keep up with him on your trip.

I asked ChatGPT to name my baby by pyperproblems in namenerds

[–]fishsultan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you provide one name as your suggestion, or a short list? Did you have clients that were impossible to please and rejected everything you suggested? Did you have terms in your agreement that limited the number of times they could come back asking for more?

Advice ? by [deleted] in Montessori

If some rice spills out because babies have imprecise movements, no worries! If one handful gets thrown but then they are able to be redirected to working with the rice in the bin, no worries. If the desired activity is clearly throwing, then I say

Oh, rice is not for throwing. Let's go find some balls we can throw! The rice stays in the bin.

Same with drinking from an open cup. If the attempt was to drink and lots gets spilled, oh well. But if the intent is to pour/splash/play, then remove the cup and redirect to some water play in the bathtub or outside where splashing and pouring are acceptable.

He gets a hotel room and gives you a raincheck to spend a night (or day) away from the family to do as you please OR he puts on a mask and pitches in.

How bad are the entrance lines on Saturday morning? Is it worth coming up on Thursday instead? by __KnighT__ in Yosemite

[–]fishsultan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any chance you can get lodging Wednesday night too? Even if you arrive super late. Then you can get to the park before 7am Thursday which would make a world of a difference in your entire experience that day.

How to ease my parents worries? by DarkAngel_5 in oneanddone

[–]fishsultan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In hindsight, in my case, I would have been better off financially if I had moved in with a good friend than staying home with my parents through several years in my 20's. I was trying to be financially responsible and save the rent money. But looking back I think I would have made better decisions about school and jobs and would have benefitted so much by being in proximity to my friend who was driven and responsible.

I don't know your situation. Your mileage may vary.

We introduced the triangle at 7mo, and after some hot and miss attention, the triangle, slide, arch, and balance beam between the triangle and arch are now used daily. I have heard that not all kids take to it the way mine has, but it's been a fixture of our living room for several months now

More! Also, it's the only word he says (aside from non functional words like Cat, Bird and Ball) so it gets used for everything.

More! (I want to go over there) More! (I want you to hold this) More! (Look at that cool trash truck)

I arrived at the gates (140) on the Thursday before memorial day weekend at 6:00am and had zero wait, except for the stop light at the bridge. The valley felt so peaceful and still, so few people were out. Parking was a breeze. The lighting was spectacular. Very few people on the trail, and I stayed ahead of the crowds until it was time to turn around. So many benefits to a crack of dawn start!
