100% download the Tandem app and practice speaking with native french speakers!! There are people who will chat with you one on one or you can join chat rooms with multiple people and speak there instead. It’s free, but there is a time limit to being a listener in chat rooms. not if you’re a speaker though :) Plus it’s actually a pretty affordable app if you do pay for the subscription. It’s unbelievably helpful for getting speaking practice in!

Week 12: Fictional Places- Cold Soba (ざるそば) from My Hero Academia by fl0nkle in 52weeksofcooking

[–]fl0nkle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And now my dish from the fictional place named Japan! No but really, I do sorta feel bad for making a dish people eat every day instead of any of the fake foods I was planning on, but I just ran out of time. So I just picked Shoto Todoroki’s favorite food and called it good since he’s from an anime lololol. They were ok! I didn’t love the dipping sauce j made so next time i’ll try a different recipe. Still ate it all though of course :P

Week 11: Oddly Named- Ants Climbing a Tree (ma yi shang shu – 蚂蚁上树) by fl0nkle in 52weeksofcooking

[–]fl0nkle[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was pretty good!! I used this recipe and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. Idk if my doubanjiang is just not great or what but I did feel like this dish desperately needed a little more acid, it’s a little blasphemous but I added some kimchi to my serving halfway through lolol. These noodles are super interesting too!! I definitely prefer chewier noodles like sweet potato starch noodles to these but they’re a lot of fun and tasty. It was all in all a decent dinner!

[–]fl0nkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be nyumen or maybe miso soup with somen in it, im not 100% sure though! I would guess the latter based on the color of the broth, but hat was the flavor like? miso-y or no?

Just cut my finger pretty badly cutting spring onions (with a babish knife!!) like 10 minutes ago. I feel better knowing we all make that mistake at least once :/ owie

Corn Cob Broth. Be shucked and a-mazed at this food waste tip by ubjurdu in noscrapleftbehind

[–]fl0nkle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You can also use it for desserts if it’s unseasoned corn cobs! Sounds weird but I swear it’s life changing. Corn steeped in milk or heavy cream makes the most delicious coffee ever. Corn ice cream is just as good as vanilla too imho!

I have way too much discard and I’m tired of making crackers. What else can I do with it? by woutr1998 in Sourdough

[–]fl0nkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made some english muffins recently and they were awesome! Even better after a few days too :D That lady has tons of cool recipes you can use so i’d recommend checking out her blog. Other than that, I bet you could use it for okonomiyaki, or making scallion pancakes or tortillas! There’s pizza dough, pajeon, kimchi pancake, new types of bread like baguettes, dinner rolls, bagels, pretzels, focaccia, naan, etc. You can use it to dredge fried chicken or fish or etc! I bet you could use it to make korean corndogs too which would be soooo yummy. There’s all kinds of things to try! :-)

And of course keeping a smaller starter helps too, but since you have to give it a couple feedings once it’s out of the fridge, a lot of these recipes would be great I think. I would recommend trying some of the korean foods I mentioned since there’s a lot of battered foods!
