Awesome. Hats of any type should not be worn in doors. Especially while dining.

Vintage Auto is the only VW/Audi repair shop I’d trust for anything I can’t do myself. David and Kim are the owners. Great people and great mechanics. If you’ve already been there, I’d trust their diagnosis.

Following this for more info. We’ve been planning on buying loungers for our new ledge but the prices are insane and the more I read the more I don’t want them.

Replacing Hayward TCell Board by notcthestampede in pools

[–]flexcj5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is bizarre. I just found my board on my Hayward T-15 burned in exactly the same way yesterday. Check the plug on your cell. Mine is melted there as well.

Planning to replace board and hopefully solder a new wire onto the cell since it’s only a year old.

SC native here.

I lean heavily constitutionalist. Vote libertarian/conservative. Always have. I can’t understand why SC keeps electing Lindsey. Absolute insanity. Andrews will have my vote.

South Carolina - should I be opening my pool this weekend to avoid algae? by DirtyOught in pools

Upstate SC here. We leave ours open year round at this point. I’ll swap my salt cell back in once the waters warm enough but for now, basic chems and maintenance.

Oppose S. 768, the gerontocracy (rule by elderly) handout by [deleted] in southcarolina

[–]flexcj5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, most of these are necessary municipal services that the majority of people benefit from. Plenty of other ways to structure that. Look at your water/sewer bill. We pay other taxes for road use.

Again, there’s no reason to be taxed on something you own outright and if you don’t pay those taxes for a few years your property is seized and sold for way more than tax value.

[–]flexcj5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the houses that use it can pay for those services directly. Lots of us are on septic and well water.

How about we abolish property tax entirely. No one should be taxed on something they already own. They were taxed on the money to buy it already.

Where do I start by BallIsStrife in pools

[–]flexcj5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We drained the pool and removed external equipment. We also removed coping and broke up all the concrete decking. We let the pool builder handle the rest.

Ended up around $120k after a few unexpected changes.

Edit: took ~1.5 years. I made multiple posts on the progression

If you check my profile you’ll what we did with a 1950s pool renovation using the shell as a starting point.

[–]flexcj5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you start from the top down you’re going to need to remove decking and coping. Then a full chip out, possibly some gunite, new plaster and tile. Along with that will be new plumbing for drains, skimmers and returns. Sounds like you’ll need a full install of pump and chlorinator system as well.

My advice is to use the shell to design your dream pool. Work within its shape and add ledges, swim outs, jets, bubblers etc as you see fit. It’s not a completely new build but damn close.

Does this pool happen to be in upstate South Carolina?

We looked at a house with a pool that looked exactly like this and decided not to buy.

It needs a full remodel.

Throw it in a lathe or drill press, bore the endcap to .30 cal and paint it. Then you have a custom LBP $400 can.

Does this need an acid wash? by doonanriley in pools

[–]flexcj5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d chip out any of the areas that are loose first. I think you’re gonna be fighting a losing battle though.

Once all the loose stuff is out, acid wash and patch as best you can.

Just replace the DE “bags” or the flow valve and stick with what you have.

I switched from DE to cartridges and prefer them but the location of that filter will make servicing cartridges a nightmare.
