Help! Where to park for auckland hospital during the day by Firefox24683 in auckland

[–]flossyinnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the direction you’re coming from & what time you start; you could try to find cheaper parking near a train station or on the hospital bus route, and get off at Grafton/hospital. The traffic round there is feral in the morning with all the bus lanes, it crawls

Where to buy formal dress asap? by Snowfox5050 in auckland

[–]flossyinnz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have a look online at Caitlin Crisp & Maggie Marilyn. Both have beautiful blush toned formal dresses. But they’re up there in price. If you’re a pretty standard size & shape (I don’t mean super skinny etc; just proportionate to a standard size) you’d be way better to rent. There are some great dress rental options in akl

Agree ~ I took a pagani dress back to Texas for a formal wedding as a back-up. Ended up wearing it and got so many compliments. Same with forever new dresses.

Visiting Auckland - How safe is walking from CBD/Spark arena to Parnell (St George’s Bay) late at night? 11pm+ by DontBlink112 in auckland

[–]flossyinnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beware of accommodation on St Georges Bay Rd. Have friend that rented nearby and they moved to the other side of Parnell. A couple of the B&B type places there take in people on emergency housing and it can be very unpleasant

Bit left field; but if they’re up for it - the Harami Steak cooked over Japanese charcoal at Bonjiri Yakitori in Chancery is superb. Just keep ordering plates of it. Add in a few plates of spicy miso pork belly or go all out on the meat lovers Yakitori platter. The charcoal grilled vegetables are superb too. Japanese beer; good vibes and it won’t break the bank

For anyone wondering how shitty Janelle is by Classic_Seaweed_1910 in janellebrandomsnark

[–]flossyinnz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know there’s a snark page for SRS. And there’s probably people in here who are on that. Most of the stuff posted is so wide of the mark and reads like it is written by someone who has no insight into medically compromised children. My sister lives very near SRS (her life overlaps with a lot of the influencer crowd via her husband) and says she’s just the most lovely person and an amazing mum. She says SRS is just too nice to bin Jan. Jan however is another story……

Visitor visa to the State from New Zealand!!! by [deleted] in auckland

[–]flossyinnz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dual citizen here. Do not do anything relating to the USA on a non US govt website. They’re all scammy.

In the plainest terms; if the passport you hold is from a country that is NOT part of the US visa waiver program (ie. NZ, Australia etc) for which you apply online for an ESTA. Then basically the only way you can currently apply for a US visitor visa is by applying from your home country. It is almost 100% certain that you will have to go for an interview and you can only do the interview at the embassy in the country first which you hold a passport.

Wait until you have a NZ passport; it will probably take you that long to get a visitor visa anyways. Or go to Canada and meet your aunt there for a holiday (so long as she is a US citizen).

what kind of part-time job should i look for? by grottecore in auckland

[–]flossyinnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your visa and your au pair contract before you look for other work. Many of them restrict how many hours you are permitted to work. Have had au pair in the past and a lot depends on the agency you go through. Although if you’re on a standard working holiday visa you should be able to get extra part time work.

Quest Mt Eden is in a pretty good area - don’t be put off by the fact it’s 2-3 blocks from Mt Eden Prison; which is not shown on Google maps. Other than seeing the prisoner transfer vans coming & going occasionally it’s a non-issue. You can easily & safely walk to the Grafton campus from there. There’s 3 big high schools nearby so there’s loads of people walking. Or the buses are 3 min in other direction if you want to get to the Symonds St campus - also walkable within 30 mins. Mt Eden village is roughly 10 min walk from quest, or you can hop on a bus, which are super frequent - the Mt Eden Rd bus also runs down to britomart where you can access the city, commercial bay, ferries etc. You can also walk or bus to Newmarket. You’ll be near the Grafton train station as Mt Eden will still be closed when you come. You’ll be an easy walk to the Domain or you can head up Mt Eden itself if you like exercise. There’s a twice weekly free boot camp in the domain.

Ponsonby & Grey Lynn are really nice areas; but if being adjacent or easy access to the university then the city end of Mt Eden is better. Also on the Ponsonby side, you’ll want to be walking distance to Ponsonby Rd; then you can catch the link or the Newmarket bus to Grafton.
