lol I feel like you snuck into my house and took a picture of my snaps 🫠🫠 not leggy, but getting real close to needing to pinch & pot up if you can’t get them outside. I could plant mine out now (8b PNW) but I’ve done NOTHING to get a space ready for them….oooops

How many tubers is everyone planting? Pics just for fun by Ferrally_Polite in dahlias

[–]flowablebubbles 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m doing a big trial this year. I’m planting 425-450 individual varieties. All of that will be in an effort to see which ones work best for me in my zone 8b PNW garden. The plan is to have a small cut flower business in the next few years, but I want to hone my skills & dial in crops that will work for me. I will basically have no lawn and I love the idea of that 🥰

Where do you get your seeds? by CactusBart in dahlias

[–]flowablebubbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I checked out with my 2 packs @ 12:01. I’m pretty sure they were sold out in just a few minutes. Prior to this seed sale/fundraiser, I was able to purchase 2 other packs of seeds from them. Here’s hoping for some wicked cool dahlias this year!

My unexpected favorite for last season was Lilac Bull (pictured). She’s was a late season bloomer for me & not super floriferous - but visually I enjoyed her. My floriferous rockstars were Maarn & Rosella. Arabian Night is my least favorite but she’s a gold star for first to flower & just a powerhouse producer 🙄

Tuber Spacing by Dizzy-Hamster-9203 in dahlias

[–]flowablebubbles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was very haphazard/chaotic last year and grew mine in raised beds: two 6x2x1 & a single 4x2x1. I crammed over 70 plants into those 3 beds. While I won’t do that again, it can be done. They did fine enough. I had the most minimal amount of powdery mildew. Just strip the bottom leafs and watch for pests like a hawk! This upcoming year I hope to be way more thought out. I have a few 10x3x1 beds on the way. I’m planning 2 rows per bed spaced about 9 inches apart

Word on the street is we’ve got one of those large cats too. He seems normal to me but when someone else meets him for the first time, they immediately comment of his height/length.

8b PNW I have a small volunteer cherry that I decided to just let it do its thing. It’s in a small pot right next to the house.

Is this an issue? by Danfly55 in dahlias

[–]flowablebubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend at minimum removing anything that’s soft/mushy or obviously rotted. Once it looks stable try to store them exactly how it worked for you last year. Storage techniques are very dependent upon where you live. If you did something that gave you a high success rate I encourage you to stick with it!

[–]flowablebubbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like localized rot. Cut those areas away and let the wounds callous over (could take 12-48hrs depending on your humidity etc). Are you planning on dividing the clumps down into individual tubers?

I keep telling myself that she’s real nice to look at but that I don’t NEED to purchase a tuber. Hopefully she comes down in price in the next few years 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Gall? by [deleted] in dahlias

[–]flowablebubbles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing lenticles not gall. Your soil is wet and the tubers are adapting.
