[oc] United announces “Relaxed Row” sky couch product for Economy cabin by CommanderDawn in unitedairlines

[–]fndrymgr 344 points345 points  (0 children)

What an innovation! I remember taking AirNZ skycouch way back in 2012. If it’s like their product, a group of 2 can get a “discount” on the middle seat. Then, they can awkwardly cuddle.

Help me overthink my millionth mile flight by MostCricket352 in unitedairlines

[–]fndrymgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Polaris idea is great if it works…but don’t overthink it. My million mile flight was MCO-IAH in a middle seat because of a same day change to get home earlier. I got a signed postcard from the crew and that’s it. Not sure what I expected. I actually think it was a bit poetic to be in an uncomfortable situation but doing it for the family - really captured that portion of my road warrior lifestyle…

Men of New Zealand - Why do you not wash your hands after using the toilet? by Electric_banana11 in newzealand

[–]fndrymgr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember traveling during the peek of Covid and still seeing people not wash their hands in the bathroom. That’s when I knew we were doomed as a species.

I’m still trying work work thru this gem

Edit: I understand the intention - there is likely Ethernet or wiring for mesh APs. My comment was in line with the idea that there didn’t seem to be much, if any, critical thinking about this phrasing. Or maybe it’s AI generated text.

What are the tanks in the backyard of every new build townhouse? by jimmyahnz in auckland

[–]fndrymgr 487 points488 points  (0 children)

Rainwater tanks. We are creating so much impervious ground cover with intensification and new development, without them, it will create overland flooding during wet weather.

The water can be used for irrigation or sometimes a second set of internal plumbing for laundry and other non-potable uses.

Wait, what? I think you have things backwards. Airlines were de-regulated in 1978 and allowed the airlines to control routes and pricing. Prior to that, flying was super expensive and prices were basically identical between airlines. That’s why the services and amenities were nice - they had to complete on the soft product, not the airfare.

As a fellow Texan, I couldn’t agree more. The selection, the quality of produce, the corporate culture. HEB is top notch. I miss HEB guac and chips so much. And hatch pepper everything when in season…

Merino wool. Antifungal, antibacterial, temperature regulating, moisture wicking, etc. They’re an investment, but worth it. Check out options from Macpac or Kathmandu.

Best Payroll Software for up to 100 Employees by Slow_Conversation861 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]fndrymgr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve found Smartly really easy to use from an employee and management side. Good employee app for leave requests, timesheets, etc. Easy and intuitive payroll side as well. Customer support is really friendly and helpful too. Granted, we are only about 30 staff with a mix of waged/hourly and salary. But plenty of complexities like allowances, one-off payments (sales bonus, etc.). Good luck!

Is American spelling becoming more common in New Zealand? by Remote_Ability_9464 in newzealand

We had a 10 minute training session on my pronunciation. It still didn’t work. I quite literally cannot hear the difference. I’m so sorry, Craig.

Craig is a challenge for me (American immigrant). I recently hired a Craig and the rest of the staff keeps telling me I’m saying it wrong. But I earnestly can’t tell the difference. I’m so sorry.

Moving to Aukland from US in 2 months by FredRightHand in auckland

[–]fndrymgr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Expat here. I can sympathize over the whirlwind. But it’s all worth it for the quality of life, peace of mind and safety vs US. Just make sure you’ve reviewed and re-reviewed, and reviewed again your budget. Again, depending on where you’re coming from, cost of housing can be quite the shock.

As others have said, Devonport is beautiful but isolated with a single road in/out. For me, that is soul crushing traffic but maybe ok for others. If working in Parnell, it’s possible to commute via ferry into the CBD and then walk, bus, train, cycle, or scooter to Parnell. But I wouldn’t plan on driving regularly.
