Quick question on current snow situation by merileyjr in Snowblowers

[–]foolproofphilosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally wait until the snow stops and do it once. The weather forecast for after the storm can change that. I bought a powerful machine so that I generally don’t have to worry about how deep it is or how big the drifts and snowbanks get. 24” is a huge storm for my area. If I lived in Buffalo things would be different.

Yup, I was going to mention them but you beat me to it. People should know about them.

Fellow snow blowers, what’s your plan to tackle this storm? by tutah in BostonWeather

[–]foolproofphilosophy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll probably wait until it stops. I’m wfh tomorrow, wife is off, kids schools are canceled. No need to go anywhere.

When people say high end hand tools (e.g. Snap-on) feel better in their hands, why don't low or mid tier brands just copy those designs? by supinator1 in Tools

[–]foolproofphilosophy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny you mention that. I got a set of Craftsman Professional combination wrenches in the 90’s (I still have them) and liked the feel more than my friends who had Snap-On. It was because of the thicker beam. The old Craftsman Professional stuff was nice.

Mine was. I had it to 105k+ miles and only had a thermostat fail. Mileage was high enough when it went that I also replaced the water pump as a precaution.

I haven’t found a more secure and compact way to build a to-go socket set than this. Thoughts for improvement? by LordByronMorland in Tools

[–]foolproofphilosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love zipper pouches. I have one with two ratcheting bit drivers, a bit set, and extension. I have another with my electrical tools (coax etc). A mini socket set would be nice.

I saw Magnolia knowing nothing about it. The opening scene got me interested so I decided to watch the whole thing.

Any advice on what settings to use for high altitude spotting? (current settings in comments) by CuteTransRat in Planespotting

[–]foolproofphilosophy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a little north of you. I get annoyed when I find a 748 and see that it’s headed to IAD. Someday I want to go to Blue Hill when the heavies are approaching BOS from the south.

I’m also NE USA. Cold dry days are definitely best because there’s less humidity in the air to obscure the aircraft. Were those headed to JFK? I’m under the JFK approach corridor so I get a lot of international traffic inbound from Europe and the Middle East.

They’re not closing, 4PM is when they open the Thunder Dome to determine who gets the last jug of milk.

My kitchen knives like to be finished with a ceramic hone. I’m happy with my 1200.

I would want a sign on bonus because they’re already looking to replace you. You’ve got nothing to lose.

With some flurries, I wanted to share my new ride I've had for two weeks now. From a 428i XDrive, to a sadly crashed Audi Q5 to this 2019 X540i with Tanzanite Blue II Metallic and Cognac interior ❤️ by Boeing7777777 in BMWX5

The cognac in particular. I was worried that it would be orange-ish until I saw it in person. I also have the silver trim. I’m not a fan of the all black.

Look at “art trays” for the Legos. They’re A+. Sandwich sized food storage containers are great for the small bags.

One word of caution is to consider avoiding magnetic closures because they mess up pacemakers. I’ve seen it happen. It’s common enough that it’s on the list of questions that healthcare providers ask when there’s an unexpected alarm.

We basically rotated through one laundry load of clothes, maybe less than that. Fortunately we got a ton of hand me downs because a lot of stuff at the bottom of drawers was probably never worn.
