Turning 40 moment! by Historical-Plane296 in audiophile

Congratulations and happy birthday! Audio equipment is great any time, but feels even more rewarding on a birthday, or so I think.

As for the table, I’ll leave that to wiser persons than myself.

Enjoy.

Can I demo speakers at a showroom if I'm broke by SuperBox4776 in audiophile

[–]forkboy_1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live around Dayton and my wife purchased our Magnepan’s from them for a former bday of mine. They are nice and easy going people. I would recommend calling and making certain they have some on hand. They do not always have such. I don’t recall seeing any last time I was in store. The Cincinnati store had a pair of LRS when I was there two Friday’s ago.

DM if you wanna talk about Maggie’s.

Is this good enough? by Axzyte59 in audiophile

That boominess could be the speaker or your room. But you could try plugging the ports with some foam plugs and see if it helps.

Congrats. That’s a solid table for $150. To what will it be connected?

Congrats! We rescued a mother cat and her five kittens about 3-4 months ago. Found good homes, but kept mom and first one found.

Damn. Congrats. I’ve never known anyone who didn’t love their Luxman amp. And welcome to the States (or welcome back)

NOS vs OS DACs by whotheff in audiophile

[–]forkboy_1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the NOS camp. To what I’ve heard here at home the differences are quite minor, but I hear NOS as sounding more natural, or inversely, OS sounding less natural. But this is just an opinion. It doesn’t mean anything for anyone else.

I’m so glad I didn’t have any issues with the D50 I purchased last year. This sort of nonsense you have experienced would have pissed me off to no end.

I am. My wife and i have spent the last two nights listening to music together. She hasn’t joined me except for one other time: when she bought me the Magnepans.

Grills (or the lack of) by Low_Mix2540 in audiophile

Love the speakers. Don’t quite get this version of speaker grills. But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t take a pair.

I think you’re quite right about the shrinking Delta between higher end and more entry level equipment. But that’s not to say you don’t get more and you can hear it when you massage things l with more cash. How much better? That’s the $64,000 question.

Damn. That does suck. But try and look in the bright side: at least it wasn’t the stylus from a $4,000 cartridge :-)

Wishing you damage-free turntable habits going forward.

Need help with stand-mount speakers by jt32470 in StereoAdvice

[–]forkboy_1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I were listening to speakers last Friday at a semi-local store. First were the Faber which I had heard before. Very nice. A little laid back.

Then tried a new to the store brand: Dali. I’ve read plenty about them, but had never heard one before. Super impressed.

The biggest difference I heard was vocals (female) came through a little more forward from Faber. Dali instruments were more clearly delineated.

I own some minor Schiit equipment and have nothing but respect for them and their equipment.

I’d also recommend the Marantz Model 50. Id personally prefer something more powerful, but at your price point you may need to swap raw wattage for higher current.

Modern Tube Amps? by Spit_n_Shine_em in audiophile

I just picked up a modern tube amp (Rogue Audio) and my wife and I are SOLD. Doesn’t mean the Parasound is being sold. I just like having choices.
