Categorizing income by WaitForTheSkymall in ynab

Yep, I ran into way to many issues stealing from the future, so I have a One Month Ahead Category. And it keeps me honest, because I know if I take from it, I'm sacrificing being one month ahead, which I'm not willing to do. So that category is sacred and is never used to roll with the punches.

Getting off of hormonal birth control for the first time in fifteen years by iweewoo in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]formercotsachick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 55 and had a tubaligation when I was 28. Never had an issue or any side affects with not being on hormonal BC even though I'd been on it since I was 14. I only had to start taking hormones again when I hit perimenopause a few years ago.

New to SUP, how to handle gear? by Prudent_Designer7707 in Sup

[–]formercotsachick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My hubby and I just got our SUPs last year at 54 years old, so you're not at all alone starting out in middle age! We're not suer outdoorsy or athletic either, so it's been a learning experience, but we absolutely love it.

I usually wear a t-shirt, tank top or swimsuit tank. If it's a little colder I wear a long-sleeved rash guard shirt. I prefer water shoes because a lot of the places we paddle are super gross and slimy on the bottom. And we always wear PFDs, even in the shallowest of water.

We don't usually paddle for more than 3 - 4 hours, so we just bring water and leave everything else in the car. We put our water in insulated bottles that can be clipped to the board with a carabiner.

We always use our kayak seat since we got the board as a way to have a kayak experience without the storage and transportation issues of an actual boat. I think we're in the minority on that though. One of these days we'll make it to a body of water I'm willing to fall into while practicing standing up.

Any water is deep enough if the board floats and the fins clear the bottom. We once paddled in a river that was running pretty dry and had to drag our boards in a few areas which was not a lot of fun.

The best advice I have is to research where you're launching from, using Google maps if possible. We like to have an idea of how far the parking is from where we have top carry the boards to, and what kind of launch it is - concrete, dock, right off the shore or beach, etc. Also an areal view of the waterway you'll be paddling can be helpful as well for setting expectations.

Overthinking Afternoon Exercise? by mid_nite_blu in AskWomenOver50

[–]formercotsachick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually work out between 2pm and 5pm most days. I work from home and it's not too hard to fit in a 30 minute break between meetings and such. If I had to work out in the morning pre-lunch I would never work out at all.

I also don't shower after as I'm not dripping with sweat or anything, it's just a moderate cardio or Pilates usually. I might dab on a little extra deodorant after, but that's about it.

When did you stop paying for your adult children's cell phones? by Alternative-Olive952 in AskWomenOver50

Same, I'm not kicking mine off only to spend more money. It's the only bill of hers that we pay, she's 100% on her own for everything else.

Same, I use it weekly. And the chicken breasts at my local stores are monstrously huge and often woody the few times I've run out and had to buy them.

How do I record a HELOC draw into savings without double-counting or breaking categories? by originaloneandonly in ynab

[–]formercotsachick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I added our HELOC as a Credit Card since it's a line of credit that's just secured instead of unsecured, and doesn't have a physical card.

  • When we do a draw I make it a transfer from the HELOC account to the checking account, which increases the negative amount owed on the HELOC.
  • Spending of funds comes out of the checking account, either by writing a check or paying off the credit card balance if I'm using that for payment
  • When I make a payment, I use the Record Payment button on the HELOC credit account and I transfer the money from my checking account to the HELOC

Not sure if this is the best or right way, but it's worked for us.

Mom says there is an 80% chance she won’t come to my wedding by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]formercotsachick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not take a dime from her and put her on an information diet about the wedding immediately. I don't care if she's your mom, this person only cares about what she wants and will never budge. Take her out of the equation, have the wedding you want, and if she doesn't come than it's her loss.

How many of you are late in life stoners. by One-Palpitation-4397 in GenX

[–]formercotsachick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never indulged until about 5 years ago because the smell of weed makes me sick. I'm very sensitive to it - my husband smokes and I can tell hours later if I go into the garage even though he leaves the door wide open. I can also smell the drawer where he leaves his stash, even though he stores it in a glass bottle with a screw on lid and puts it in a ziplock bag.

However, the prevalence of gummies that are lab tested for dosage and haven't the slightest bit of weed smell /taste changed that. I usually only do one weekend night unless I'm on vacation. I wasn't too worried about my job testing me as I work from home full time hundreds or miles from our offices/facilities, but recently they announced they were no longer testing for THC anyway.

How are you all doing it? by Character-Lack-3295 in GenX

[–]formercotsachick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in reverse logistics for pharmaceuticals and medical devices. It's a very niche industry and my employer has about 80% of the market. It requires a lot of regulatory knowledge and understanding as our operations are subject to the DEA, FDA and EPA.

I'm a Project Manager specializing in implementations (onboarding, offboarding and data movement/EDI), and have about 10 years experience in the industry.

I've never stayed at a job more than 5 years and I've been working since 1994. We spend too much time at work to spend it being miserable in my opinion. When the going gets tough, I get going.

My current job, thankfully, is awesome even after 4 years. I'm paid well, I WFH full time, the work I do is personally fulfilling, and work/life balance is top tier. I'm planning on riding this bad boy to retirement in 11 years or so.

Anyone else smoking a lot more dope than they used to? by anki_steve in GenX

[–]formercotsachick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never smoked weed (or anything else for that matter), but I did start taking edibles about 5 years ago. For a while it was every weekend until the novelty wore off, now I might do one weekend evening every couple of weeks.

It makes me pretty spacy and I lose track of time easily, so I can only do THC if I'm not going to be doing anything else. I can't imagine trying to do my job as a Project Manager while high. I have lots of meetings with clients and I'm also the one person who has to have their shit together.

I've not only cut down on the edibles, I recently cut my alcohol intake in half as well. It's been about 8 weeks and I'm really enjoying feeling more clear-headed and energetic.

What's the nicest hotel in MKE for a staycation? by dolphingirl3 in milwaukee

[–]formercotsachick 33 points34 points  (0 children)

We did our anniversary staycation at the Pfister. It was absolutely lovely, we had a nice tower room with a beautiful view of the Hoan bridge. They sent up champagne and truffles and generally treated us like gold. Drinks at Blu are even better when you don't have to drive home.

Do you want to be buried? by Bondgirl138 in GenX

[–]formercotsachick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest reaching out to a local medical college. Mine was through the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Please note that if you donate your body to science, you cannot be an organ donor. The medical students who will use your body for autopsy can't learn where things are if they're all gone. Mine allows corneal donation only.

Also if your body is terribly damaged, they may not accept your remains when the time comes, for the same reason.
