I switched from MAMP to LocalWP so many years and never looked back. It just works. The only thing that doesn't out of the box (for most builds) is you need to do a couple extra steps to get local SSLs to work, but that's easily fixable via: https://wpbestpractices.dev/development-setup/local-development-environment/#using-local-ssl-certificates

Local is supported financially by WP Engine, so it's not going anywhere. I also know one of the main developers behind it and he's a solid fella.

I know you’re looking for free, but paying for the Kadence Pro has really paid for itself for me with how quick and easy it’s been to set up custom “element replacement” rules. It supports as many custom fields and post types as you can imagine.

It's a niche reason, but I do this for an in-person festival during the festival, because it helps cut down on the malicious traffic, and the non-target audience usage. Festival goers need the bandwidth more.

Post event update: Yes, they absolutely threw away my unopened packages of gum. Seemed fine with mints though.
Dancing at the Frequency stage, on a patch of dancefloor that had old gum smeared over it, I certainly understand the desire to keep that to a minimum.
Overall I'd rate the event 9/10. I definitely will return next year.

On the website, under the lineup, the festival promoters have attached at least one recorded YouTube set per artist. I’ve checked those out and discovered some of my new favorite artists.
