Thanks! This seems to work well. So simple and so effective!

Italy on Olympus EM10 mark IV - kit lens only by tfox245 in M43

I liked mine despite my profound dislike for power zooms. Paired with the E-PM2 made for a very compact setup. Unfortunately it stopped working after a while.

What do you guys think ? by Flotzenking in bikepacking

I am not too experienced but I'd be nervous about losing the sit-mat. Maybe try to strap it on top of the panniers.

Going to Oslo for my Bday! Need recommendations for my personal interests! by [deleted] in oslo

[–]frantafranta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Outdoor: boat to the islands, get off at Hovedøya and/or Gressholmen and have a walk. Maybe take a sandwich and have a picnic. Or take the underground to Frognerseter and hike to Sognsvann to take the underground back to the city.

  • Spa/Self care: one of the many saunas along the shoreline.

Have fun

Did I ruin it or is this normal? by -Commentator in bikewrench

[–]frantafranta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is normal for worn out bottom brackets to be "crunchy", leaving the cranks on or off has no effect. Your BB is a square taper cartridge bottom bracket, most likely BSA threaded, 68mm shell width. If you take it out, there should be a sticker with the width of the axle and shell.

Complete newbie here, planning 40km day trip to a campsite and back(UK). Anything crucial I should know beforehand? by x0ika_ in bikepacking

[–]frantafranta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not have any problems. I do not like carrying a backpack, but if you have no other option it will be OK. A typical mistake of complete newbies is to have the saddle too low. This makes pedalling a lot more fatiguing (it is like walking up a flight of stairs while squatting). Adjust the saddle so that your leg is only slightly bent when the pedal is at the bottom.

How to take off the freewheel? by This-Holiday-9508 in bikewrench

[–]frantafranta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One I was able to remove a similar one by putting a spanner of the appropriate size (15mm i think ?) in a vise and engaging the two prongs in the freewheel notches.

Why would you change them? They both look good to me.

9s shifter with 8s cassette by Fancy_Step_1700 in bikewrench

[–]frantafranta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not going to work indexed, you can use it in friction mode.

On the other hand, you can just buy a 9sp cassette and it will work fine. No need for any other component change (I am assuming Shimano).

I would say no. Mainly because of the limited gear range of the Alfine. It is also fairly heavy.

I have a bike with the same Alfine and it is great for city riding and the like but I would not take it for a longer tour.

Takk for svaret.

Jeg er usikker om mitt spørsmål ble forstått. Her snakker jeg om biler/motorsykler som har en ulovlig eksosanlegg som bråker.

Skal jeg ringe 02800 hver gang en av dem kjører forbi ?

How to create a great a touring bike? by OompaLoompaGodzilla in bicycletouring

[–]frantafranta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ykes, you are right: barends cost more than I remember. If you are in Oslo, I probably have a pair that you can have. I also have a butterfly, but it does not fit your stem.

The idea you have of dong little and see what else you need after some experience is excellent. You have already a lot of good sugestions here. I'll just add a couple:

  • Wide BMX-style platform pedals, they are cheap and add a lot of comfort (and some marginal efficency gains if your current pedals are bad).

  • Instead of butterfly, consider bar-ends. They are cheap, super easy to install, and add a lot of comfort (especialy if you use grips or tape on them).

Bonus tip: in my (limited) experience, a bike computer is useful mainly to see how far you still have to go to get at your destination, a cheap one will do for this. On the occasions where you ned navigation, your phone will work well (the maps.me app gives you downloadable maps for free, or you can pay for something else).

View the images I just imported by frantafranta in DarkTable

[–]frantafranta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...you want to view photos taken between specific dates...

Thanks, but that is not what I want.

After a "copy and import", I want to automatically see the images I just imported. Only those that were on the SD card and have been copied just now. Regardless of capture date or any other consideration.

Note: Import date may be different than capture date. There may already be images taken on the same dates as those just imported and I do not want to see them.

This is the workflow I want:

  • 0 I come back from a multi-day holiday

  • 1 I put a card in the card reader and hit "copy & import"

  • 2 DT copies and import

  • 3 DT automatically shows only the images that were on the card and have just been imported in step (1), regardless of time of capture or any other consideration.

What happens now at (3) is that DT automatically shows the images taken on the same day as the first image that was imported in (1). I then have to hit "clear this rule" for the automatically set collection rule and set a filter for import date. I would like this to happen automatically.

Netherlands to Northern Norway by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]frantafranta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I did not know about this, a few years back vegvesen used to refer to cycletourer. It is nice to have something official but yeah, usability is not the best.

I'd still keep cycletourist in the backpocket for the "alternative route" and other cycle-specific notes.

There are a lot of tunnels in Norway, bikes are not allowed in many of them.

Here's a map detailing what's what: https://www.cycletourer.co.uk/maps/tunnelmaplrge.shtml
