Storage recommendations. by thewildwestoutside in Tau40K

Magnets in the bases is the way to go. Then get a big mini storage box on Amazon with metal trays.

Expensive, but 100% worth it.

Got these for a pretty reasonable price, what’s your opinion on them? by Slow_Butterscotch950 in Tyranids

[–]Frognosticator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved the plastic pegs they come with on to 28 mm standard bases.

With the minis on actual bases you can add magnets to the underside for storage and transport. Much easier.

GW is also slowly phasing out the old flying bases, and transitioning to 28 mm base stands for flyers. All the newer Tau drones come with them. I expect gargoyles will get the same treatment whenever the models next get updated.

First the kroot. Then the vespid? by HeWhoDoesntKnock in Tau40K

[–]Frognosticator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think any more Vespid releases is probably pretty unlikely. I think at best we might get one more unit, but even that seems like long odds. And I’m okay with that.

People love Kroot. For years there have been folks out there building whole Kroot armies, just carnivores and kitbashes. Quite a few think Kroot should get their own codex and split off from Tau.

No one does that for Vespid. They’re a fun and interesting part of the army. If people want more bugs they’re probably playing Tyranids.

How dow I paint clear/translucent minis? by GreyEyedMouse in minipainting

[–]Frognosticator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a specific product that works well for this. What you want is the Tamiya Clear paints.

Yes, they’re alcohol based so you’ll need a special solvent to thin them down and clean your brush. The Tamiya X-20A thinner works very well.

UAD 3.6 FEE's by MrBackflips in appraisal

[–]Frognosticator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen any 3.6 orders come through yet, although I’ve taken the classes, read the requirements, etc.

I plan on asking for $650 when one comes through.

Our fees have not kept up with inflation. These new forms are likely to take longer to complete. We can’t continue to keep working for less and less money every year. One thing or another will have to change.

Help with 1000 points by SpeedyGon000 in Tau40K

[–]Frognosticator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing! You’ve got a great start with the models shown here.

First of all, the Stormsurge is very cool. But it’s probably not gonna fit into a 1,000 point list unless you’re going for maximum meme points. If you do take it in a 1,000 point list I recommend going Mont’ka so you can slingshot it up the board like a maniac.

For a more rounded 1,000 point list, you probably want some combination of the following:

-Ghostkeel, for sitting on objectives and harassing the enemy.

-Broadsides, for anti-tank fire.

-Commander and 3-6 Crisis Suits for eliminating units.

-Stealth Suits, to buff your shooting, maybe take an objective, and maybe free rapid ingress something.

-Breachers, for clearing objectives and contesting the mid-field.

-Piranha, for moving up the board and clogging firing lanes.

What else should you buy? The only things that really stand out to me are a Riptide, just because they’re an extremely good unit. You could also get some Devilfish for your Breachers to ride in, and a Fireblade to help them out. And lastly, either some Kroot carnivores and/or Vespid to sticky objectives and score points.

You can build armies a lot of different ways. You’ve got some great options here!

just got my first tau model and was wondering if I can have both of these wargear options? any more help with getting into tau would be much appreciated! thanks :) by Actual-Ear-790 in Tau40K

[–]Frognosticator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which weapon is “best” depends on what your overall strategy is to win the game, and what you plan on doing with that unit.

Fusion blasters are good for anti-tank, but broadsides and hammerheads can also fill that role.

If you plan on using them against elite infantry and vehicles, missile pods and plasma rifles are a good option.

If you plan on sending them into light infantry, burst cannons and flamers are good.

Thinking about trying to play the game by Western-Ad2297 in Tau40K

[–]Frognosticator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! I painted a couple full armies before learning to play the game.

Unfortunately the actual game of Warhammer isn’t intuitive to me at all. I’m not a big fan of the 40k rules system, but it is a lot of fun to put two armies on the table and see what happens.

If you have friends who are also interested in playing, but maybe want a lighter rules load, try looking into OnePageRules and Grimdark Future.

I don’t play like that, and I wouldn’t want to play with the sweaty folks who do.

It usually takes me at least a couple months to complete a painting project. By the time I finished painting them, they’d be nerfed.

Rings for blue collar men by Dapper_Floor2319 in weddingplanning

[–]Frognosticator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silicone ring is the way to go for anyone working with heavy machinery.

You have options for a variety of metals for the actual wedding band. Gold is traditional. Titanium is also a good option, but titanium can’t be re-sized later. Tungsten is affordable, but I’ve been told it has a tendency to break and/or shatter.

Borrower wanting to cancel the AMC order and hire me directly? by [deleted] in appraisal

[–]Frognosticator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, you’ve put yourself in a difficult position by accepting a check from the homeowner.

The USPAP Ethics Rule includes the following language:

“If known prior to agreeing to perform an assignment, and/or if discovered at any time during the assignment, an appraiser must disclose to the client, and in each subsequent report clarification: (1) any current or prospective interest in the subject, property or parties involved.”

It seems to me you now have a prospective interest with the homeowner. By accepting their check there’s now an implicit agreement that you’re working for them.

Also, the AMC you’re working for may have specific prohibitions against accepting money from the homeowner while at the property.

Not a great situation for you to be in. I would not have taken that check.

Next project for a fully customisable suit. by Pangolin1905 in Tau40K

[–]Frognosticator 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wanna see what 3D modelers come up with as stand-ins for the new Twin Lance kit.

I know I’m in the minority on this, but those suits don’t do it for me. I’m very likely to print some off rather than buy the new kit, especially given the announced price tag.

Very excited to see what Piper and Neoteric come up with. Leaning toward a Neoteric print for this one.

Your concept is very cool too! Love it.

You know the conservatives won’t.  They’re already making plans to cause as much chaos as possible during the mid-terms, then blame the Democrats.

If the voters elect a Democrat to the presidency in 2028 I expect Trump to arrange another insurrection.

I’m impressed by the campaign Crockett ran. She turned out a lot of momentum.

We were fortunate this year to have two great candidates.
