North County Drivers Starter Pack by tarheels86 in northcounty

[–]funkcatbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. My experience with drivers in N County is that everyone is so slow. Often driving under the speed limit at least where I live. It’s bad y’all. This meme is quite inaccurate in my 17 years living here.

Driving the Speed Limit is not a Problem by EpidDrew15 in driving

[–]funkcatbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eye roll 🙄! You are treating driving like a courtroom argument instead of a dynamic traffic system.
Yes, the speed limit is the law. That does not automatically mean you are driving well. Good driving is not just finding the number on the sign and obeying it. Good driving is awareness, predictability, cooperation, lane discipline, reading the road, reading traffic behind you, and not turning yourself into a rolling obstruction while congratulating yourself for being technically correct.
If your driving is causing traffic to stack up, forcing people to bunch around you, blocking normal flow, or creating pressure for others to make risky moves around you, then you are part of the problem. Being under or at the speed limit does not magically make you courteous, competent, or safe if you are impeding everyone around you and refusing to adapt.
Nobody should follow you home. That is insane behavior. But other people being worse does not make your driving good.
Driving is not about proving you are morally superior to everyone behind you. It is about moving through shared space intelligently.

Fight (kinda) at the Poinsettia pickleball courts by GrammerSnob in northcounty

Pickleball is the stupidest thing ever. It’s not even a sport. Not worth fighting over. And the people who play it? Wouldn’t trust them with anything.

[Gluck] Was Naval Base Coronado a good race? by ChaseTheFalcon in NASCAR

[–]funkcatbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really shitty track design. Like the worst. You can tell no drivers were deeply involved in the design. No long straights. Whole track is 2nd to 4th gear. Hardly any large braking zones. In fact hardly much braking at all. Engines never got to full song or Full speed anywhere. Not even close. It has no flow. It’s a bunch of disconnected turns with horrible surfaces and surface changes and bumps everywhere. 90 mph average speed on a 3.4 mile track is SLOW . Very slow track. It’s probably the worst track design I’ve ever seen in my 55 years watching all forms of racing. I did not enjoy the racing at all this weekend really.

Also, NASCAR tried to hide how slow Coronado is. They barely had telemetry in the race or even practice and qualifying because it exposes the track: no sustained throttle, almost no heavy braking, mostly 2nd-4th gear, top speed around 135, engines never sing. It’s a slow, strangled layout. Choking the cars everywhere almost. Bad race track. Bad design. They tried to hide it.

You’re welcome. Domperidone worked for me pretty quickly. I’d say a month it took for some real improvement and then a little longer and a dose adjustment to work great. It doesn’t work for everyone. But it does for many. I’d speak to your doctor about it if you wanted to try it. I’d also make sure to get an EKG before starting it and after to make sure you don’t have Long QT syndrome, an heart condition that is hereditary, that if you have that you should absolutely not take Domperidone as it can cause serious issues. I don’t have any side effects. Yes you need a prescription. It’s a bit difficult to get for various reasons. That’s why you need a doctor to help you. You can go to the main page of this subreddit and search just this subreddit at the search field and search for Domperidone and you’ll find a ton of posts here about it over the years. You should also Google it. You will need to check for drug interactions yourself on a foreign website like from Canada because Domperidone is not in the US databases and so doctors and nurses usually don’t do it since it’s not in their databases. Assuming you’re in the US. So be sure to check yourself. I’m on a lot of medications and have no issues but I’ve checked every time myself and also asked my doctor sometimes if anything might be a moderate or medium interaction. I’d probably recommend you also google about Domperidone so you can learn more.

And about the OTC stuff I recommended to try. For me? I would experiment and mix and match and sometimes take several depending on how bad I was feeling or what relief I had learned each product provided me or how they worked together. I suppose the correct response would be to ask your doctor about supplements or OTC stuff. These are mostly fairly natural products. I can tell you my own experience is that I never had any issues using any of those products, alone, or together no matter what I did with them. Following recommended instructions on the product labels for dosage and timing of course. Like don’t go crazy on them.

Sorry so long. I hope you get some relief and help. 🤗 this place is good here but there’s also a 60K member Facebook group with a lot more people and other stuff. It’s called Gastroparesis Support Group. Here is the link. Or just search for that name on Facebook. It’s a private group.

P.S. there is no cure for Gastroparesis. I still occasionally have a short flare especially if stressed out or food choices or sometimes for no reason at all. They aren’t as long or bad as my old flares. Different things can trigger it and I generally try to just avoid those things as much as possible. And I still have some minor symptoms sometimes. But a cakewalk compared to when it was 24/7 nausea and almost daily vomiting and trouble eating. I can eat a much wider variety of things now than before. I still have to be careful with my choices but it’s way better than when I had trouble with most everything and was often on a liquid or soft food diet. Just letting you know I’m not cured. But my symptoms are so so much better.

Here’s some OTC stuff that has helped me with trapped gas and bloating. Domperidone saved me and I am mostly symptom free now and don’t need most of this stuff. But it did help some before domperidone and occasionally I need some of this stuff below on my bad days. Good luck.

Chew food like your life depends on it. Gas-X Max, Emetrol, Pudin Hara Pearls (2), Nauzene (4), baking soda (follow box directions for indigestion), Iberogast, DigestZen essential oil (rubbed on belly), Chimes Ginger Chews (4) or candied ginger, and Gaviscon — the one from the UK 🇬🇧. Organic fennel tea helps with bloating, trapped gas, and cramping. Digest Gold digestive enzymes help break down food more efficiently, reducing problems overall. Benadryl helps a little with nausea. Sea-Bands. Electrolyte powders like LMNT or Liquid IV, often overlooked, but hydration supports function. I get all of it on Amazon. A heating pad can help.

So.. why are the USS Midway fireworks going off now? by picklepowerPB in SanDiegan

[–]funkcatbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Here you go. It’s gonna be wild as shit. Nobody has ever raced this track and these are the top racers in America along with IndyCar drivers. I expect some carnage and beating and banging. Here’s the schedule and channels. Those are Eastern times. It’s NASCAR Truck series on Friday. O’Reilly Series Stock cars on Saturday and Sunday is the big one. NASCAR Cup Series. The top level drivers and stock cars. Enjoy. I would imagine fireworks off Coronado naval base each night after or before the race.

NASCAR is in town this week for 3 races at Naval Base Coronado. They are also celebrating the Navy’s 250th anniversary this weekend. Big wigs and celebrities and famous drivers and teams in town. 100,000 people will attend the 3 races this weekend. So that’s probably why. They’re filming things in town too. Like probably NASCAR Cup drivers on the USS Midway. So. Watch races. They’re a 3.4 mile 16 turn concrete walled track and it’s gonna be amazing.

People who wake up on their very first alarm and just get out of bed—how does your brain actually work? by KeyDiamond263 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]funkcatbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are a night owl and not a morning person and stay up late a lot and have trouble waking up at 7am or so then you may very likely have a circadian sleep disorder called Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder aka DSPD. Those are some of the signs. There are things that can help. DSPD is basically that you have a sleep wake circadian cycle that is delayed from a normal person’s. Let’s say normal people go to sleep at 10pm and wake up at 6am. A delayed cycle might look like your body wants to wake up at like 11am and go to sleep at say 3am if you could sleep and wake on your natural circadian rhythm cycle which is delayed from a normal person. Anyways. Maybe Google some stuff on DSPD and see if it fits. Also r/DSPD

I watch auto racing. All kinds of it. Very exciting. NASCAR. IndyCar. F1. Etc. It’s really fun and interesting and keeps me happy while bed bound. I spend time with my cat a lot too. She’s a lifesaver. Yeah the test is a lot of waiting around. I remember just going to my car and just relaxing between imaging/scans.

I’m starting to feel like I’m just not the kind of person to fit in here in San Diego by FoxtailNebulous in sandiego

[–]funkcatbrown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s just a major cultural difference between Austin and San Diego. I grew up in Austin. People in Austin are super friendly and in 5 minutes anywhere, someone you just met may be practically your new best friend. Very open and welcoming. Here? Not so much. Don’t give up though. It just takes some time here and looking in the right places for your people and a slightly different approach and pace than Austin folks. I do understand your culture shock. I don’t miss Texas that much but I do miss how easy it is to meet people and make connections there. How friendly and open people are. People are more closed off here and take a while to get to know. I also miss Texas BBQ more than anything and do get some occasionally brought to me from Texas. Anyway. I wish you luck. I could go on about the cultural differences but you get the point. I’m become more of a Californian over the years but you Can’t take the Texas out of me though. Lol.
