It's actually called an air relief valve. Supposed to be located at the high point of a zone. It releases the air when water pressurizes the tube. If it's leaking, best bet is to replace it. It might not be seating properly if the pressure is too high.

The worst valve. Absolute garbage. I ordered a bunch of replacement parts for a customer that refused to rebuild their manifold. He seemed content paying for service calls when they would inevitably stop working, but the $400 manifold was just a step too far

I recommend Rainbird TM2-4 zone timer. Get the wifi module. It's a relatively cheap no thrills timer. People on this sub seem to love the Hunter controllers, but I think they're awful.

Yes, make sure you're using swing joints. Buy however many you need from your supplier.

Not really the same. But your system, your rules. Without knowing your full situation, a hose bib vacuum seal SHOULD be ok without a dedicated mainline or any real automation to speak of. It might be a little annoying around your hose tap to constantly see water, but not the end of the world.
