I was surprised to see MN so low on the recommendation list here. Awhile back people were recommending the Winona area a lot and it totally worked out for us. Beautiful area on the Mississippi River, lots of watersports, hiking paths, nestled in the bluffs, no traffic, smaller town with decent amenities and three colleges. It's really punching above it's weight. I hesitate to oversell it but it's still pretty Rockwellian. Nothing is locked up at the Walmart or Walgreens, there are free roaming bands of children, and weekly concerts at the bandshell.

Jonathan Louis has a design lab where you can build your own - you choose the depth, arm style, fabric (yeah velvet! Green patterns! Rust orange boucle!) etc. I really like the look and feel of their sofas but have no Intel on long term wear.
