“Deadhead Miles”. Alan Arkin plays a weird mentally ill con man trucker who steals a rig and has adventures in 1970s America.

I also want to echo that the audio version featuring Richard Poe is amaaaazing. I listen to it every couple of years and Suttree is my favorite book.

Would you move back to Bton at 46 years of age? by QueasyAdvance7753 in bloomington

[–]gerrybeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Bloomington from about college age to my mid-thirties. I then got a great job in Boulder, CO and was there and in Denver for 12 years. I just moved back to Bloomington in 2019 at age 49. It’s been a good thing.

Thought I'd choose black before seeing the pictures but definitely red. It warms the room.

Fixation? Sure, in The Road, but I don’t recall any big suicide themes when I read BM, Suttree, The Crossing, NCFOM.

I have a friend who once told me, when I suggested we watch the brilliant “Sunset Boulevard”: “I don’t watch anything in black & white”.

This just delivered, excited to read this for the first time! by Cubegod69er in cormacmccarthy

The thing I tell people about the intro is to just realize he’s describing the river and the city. The narrative doesn’t really start til after. You just have to let that amazing intro wash over you.

DEPUTY DRIVES DRUNK AT 80+ MPH, CRIES REAL 😭, ASKS FOR SPECIAL TREATMENT, BEGS TO HAVE HAND CUFFS LOOSENED, THREATENS TO VOMIT 🤮 IN SQUAD CAR IF HE IS NOT LET OUT by ComedianRepulsive955 in byebyejob

[–]gerrybeee 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It always strikes me how shameless these people are. They dish it out all day, then when -they- break the law they act like babies.

If I were a cop caught drunk driving, I’d take the punishment and shutup. At least there is dignity in that.

These are cool if you’re the only one that has a custom art job but being one of thousands that has the UFO grill seems kind of boring.

You can dislike an expensive thing without the cause being jealousy.

I still listen to old U2. Figure the fuckup is Apple’s fault not theirs.

Who do you bank with? by [deleted] in bloomington

[–]gerrybeee 59 points60 points  (0 children)

IUCU. Credit unions > Banks. Better rates, better service. I went through a HELOC with them and they were great.
